GW2 has this whole system regarding ferocity, dignity, and charm, and I don’t see ANYTHING being done with it. I would love to see something being done with it in the Living Story. To quote the wiki:

Personality affects gameplay by offering certain dialogue options only to some types and altering the reactions of certain NPCs. For example, barbaric characters might have the option to punch some NPCs, while other NPCs might cower when approached. However, the game is designed to avoid extreme consequences, i.e. players are able to take on different personality types without fear of losing out on overall rewards or benefits.

I have not seen any special reactions from npc’s, and certainly not the option to punch npc’s (and I have finished the entire personal story, and have 100% ferocity).

“the game is designed to avoid extreme consequences”

And there’s your problem right there. People like consequences. They like their personality and choices to matter. Otherwise the story is just one big long flat line. Please give us dialogue trees. Allow us to say things that make a noticeable difference.

GW1 was nothing but text boxes with basically just an “okay” button at the bottom to finish the dialogue. But I think many games have moved beyond that sort of linear story telling. I would love to see this in the Living Story to bring the world to “life”. (-see what I did there, eh?)

If I’m rude to an npc, and then talk to that npc again later on, it would be nice of the npc remembered what a total jerk I was to him (and not restart the same dialogue again from scratch as if nothing happened). And while we are on that subject, it would be nice if I could actually be a jerk to certain npc’s. Why do we have to be so nice all the time?

We have these three personality characteristics. Do something with them!

There are a few personality decisions in GW2, but I haven’t found many. There is one I distinctly remember:

When my scoundrel thief (50/50 ferocity and charm) got the option to kill Captain Tervelan after he was captured, in the Dead Sister storyline. Logan Thackery even said to her, "remind me not to get on your bad side." Hehe, big brave Logan is wary of my thief.

It is there, just not that much. And making that decision didn’t change the story itself – probably just some dialogue changes to compensate. It would be more fun to see it tweaked in more heavily. But because of my sylvari’s personality, I picked up a funny joke when talking to a certain npc:

“What did the farmer say when he saw rats in his barn? Skritt!”

Like in Red Dead Redemption. If you went totally bad as in, stole horses, tied people up, murdered, etc, the marshals wouldn’t bother chasing after you unless you commited a serious offense in front of them. You would also get merchandise cheaper from questionable merchants, and you got a special “outlaw” horse to ride on.

On the opposite spectrum, if you were a goody-goody, good guy then you would unlock sherrif clothes to wear (can’t remember exactly) and duelists would challenge you to shootouts to see if you really were as legendary as everyone said you were.

Seconded. I know that there are some dialogue options that depend on your personality, but I’d also like this taken a bit further – so we actually feel like it means something.

Heck, I was happy enough just being greeted with “Commander” in the livings tory instances (and by a number of NPCs out in the world) – if we had more of that relating to our personality, that would be neat.

Totally agree. An other content completely bad designed and without a minimal sense.

I’ve had a few NPCs in divinities reach say, NPC1: “Oh!! Do you see him over there?” points at my charr “I’ve heard he’s one of the most charming people around!” NPC2: “I wonder if he’s as charming in the home as he is with others….” NPC3: “Suzy!(not actual name I don’t remember it) you don’t even know him!!”

It’s funny that they’re all talking about my charr that way and then talk about how untrustworthy my friends character is (scoundrel).

I’ve had a few Diplomatic options (50charm + 50 dignity) that allowed me to avoid combat, and have people compliment my character on his “political damenor” on more than one occasion.

They sing dark, delicious notes about power and family.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna

I do like it when an NPC remembers me. I know this can be done. Brings me into the story more and more immersion. Like the Vistas, seeing yourself and what’s going around you in real-time.

I seem to recall that my noble character (all charm and dignity) was offered the same choice so I don’t think your characters personality actually affects the options that are presented, choosing one tweaks your characters personality a bit in the direction of the option but I still get the same options.
