Make sPvP relevant to the Gift of Battle
I agree with this suggestion, if not the gift of battle at least means of obtaining badges of honor. I also think things like Jugs of Karma and XP items. While splitting spvp in GW1 made sense because you could make pvp only characters, I think its kind of hurting spvp in GW2 because there is no distinction between pvp and pve characters.
That is a good point, Guild Wars had an account wide currency you gained from all sorts of PvP that could be used to buy all sorts of other things both in and out of PvP (not the least of which was amber). You can’t even take the skins you earn in sPvP out of the Mists! I think adding other incentives like karma as possible sPvP chest rewards would also be a great idea.
That might help with the endless grinding of the poor jumping puzzles in WvW
No.
sPvP should get legendary skins just by doing sPvP.
The gear is separate.

But why is the gear separate? Why does the Gift of Battle, ostensibly placed in the game to promote PvP, only reward on type of PvP? Why does sPvP have to be completely divorced from the rest of them game? It wasn’t in Guild Wars, and it doesn’t really make sense to do it here if interest is waning in sPvP to begin with. They should give more incentive to play sPvP, not less.
They should give more incentive to play sPVP by adding more to sPVP not by mixing it with PVE. Everything is separate between sPVP and PVE and for one reason: balance (yeah I said it with a straight face) sPVP is supposed to be played like an FPS game or an RTS game online so having PVE-like rewards in there just aren’t appropriate.
And btw you don’t get the Gift of Battle by doing anything that is like PVP or anything real WvW related, you just do a jumping puzzle a few thousand times
That’s the Gift of Battle (more like Gift of Jumping I’d say)

You say that PvE and PvP is separate, but historically that really hasn’t been the case. How does making all forms of PvP relevant the Gift of Battle, instead of arbitrarily excluding sPvP, affect balance in any way? And If you think they should give more incentive to play sPvP why shouldn’t they grant tokens like a Badge of Honor to get players that want to progress in PvE as well as PvP a chance to do so?
I realize there is a jumping puzzle, but should something that is called the Gift of Battle really be that dependent on jumping puzzles? Wouldn’t it make more sense to add something like Badges of Honor to sPvP? To me this seems like the legendary defender title in Guild Wars – sure, there was a way to get it before they made the change, but it just didn’t make sense.
No, don’t mix PvE with sPvP, Gift of Battle is for PvE legendaries.

Your point is null and void considering WvW apparently plays such a big part in getting a Legendary. Last time I checked, WvW was PvP and not PvE.
Honestly, I think adding badges to sPvP would be great as then you’d actually have to do battle for your Gift of Battle, rather than just jump.
Do you even lift, bro?

As to the jumping puzzle thing… true they need to make it less dependent on puzzles or rename it to Gift of Jumping already :P
Anet devs stated numerous times that PVE and sPVP are separate that’s why I’m bringing it up. And there is good reason for it, since you can’t affect PVE in any way by doing sPVP and the opposite, unlike GW1 for example where you could affect PVE by doing PVP.
As Valento put it:
No, don’t mix PvE with sPvP, Gift of Battle is for PvE legendaries.
Why should an item purely for PVE be constructed by doing sPVP in any form? You can’t take your legendary to sPVP so it makes sense not to have any way getting the item (or some parts of it) by doing sPVP. Now, what they could do is add Legendary skins in the game (maybe they already have?) and only available at the highest ranks of sPVP? Or obtainable in some other way through sPVP?
I can understand the reasoning behind adding Badges of Honor (or similar) to sPVP, mostly to bring people to sPVP from PVE, but the two game modes are so separated that bringing more people to sPVP should be done by changing sPVP itself… see them as separate games, more so if the e-sports aspect of sPVP ever takes off. Even if they added Badges of Honor it would only be a temporary measure, sPVP has other issues
tldr
What as sPVP needs to bring more players to it, is more sPVP content and/or changes not mixing with PVE
