My mini map setting is normally zoomed out 2x (I believe it’s 2) and the jump in the mini maps appearance is huge. You go from seeing the outlines of the cliffs, paths, and other things clearly to paint smears.
While I understand why the father out you zoom the less clear it should get but at zoomed out 2 the mini map is still pretty close/zoomed in. The range of the zoomed out 2 is just a tad father then the gathering node visual range. Which imo should mean if you are close enough to see all the gathering on the map then you are close enough to have a nice map and see the terrain. When you zoom out after that is when you should have to see the paint smears instead.
Why should they change this, well because visually it’s more appealing. Second is because running around with the paint smear mini map there has been times where I ran into a dead end because that one smear is suppose to be a wall or I run to the bottom of a cliff edge because I thought the smear was a hill not a cliff. Sure over time I figure out the maps, but still the functionality of the smear map compared to the detailed is lacking.
