I love GW2, I love the play style, the artwork and the story. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful game.
I do not like pvp or wvw. Therefore that is a part of the game I do not play. Its just not my cup of tea, but many who do like to play pvp/wvw have nothing but good things to say about it.
One thing I am not enjoying is the 4-5% of the map completion that forces me to go into these areas. I want my completion so I will push through but honestly for me its has spoilt my enjoyment simply because I am pushed into doing something I do not enjoy.
If I had known I would just not work towards it but at the start I had no clue I would have to go into the battle grounds and I only discovered I needed to do that when I completed all the pve world maps and was sat at 94%.
Maybe in the future you could have pve map completion and wvw map completion as two separate achievements?
Thanks for reading.
You’re not going to get a whole of sympathy from this lot. Most of the player base seems to have at least some passing interest in PvP, if not an addiction to it, which is why the small minority of PvP loathers (including me and thee), are pretty much SOL. And because there are so few of us that really don’t want to participate in this type of gameplay, we can’t reasonably expect ArenaNet to make any worthwhile changes to the current systems.
And it’s not just map completion either. If you want your monthly achievement, be prepared to grind out 50 PKs in WvW. If you want a legendary — well, I can’t even speculate how much of a pain that will be, but I expect to be replacing a couple of mice due to the frustration.
Really, my only problem with the game is that some of us are kind of being forced into playing the PvP game, when all indications prior to release was that those who preferred to stick with PvE wouldn’t feel hindered. Likewise for PvP players who want no part of the PvE experience, they can jump into WvW as soon as they exit the tutorial.
Some might say that earning achievements and attaining a legendary weapon are optional endeavors, and strictly speaking, they are right. But hunting achievements and putting together a legendary are the two things I saw as long-term goals for this game, and something that would give it more longevity. PvP isn’t going to fit the role for me. I’m not really sure what to work towards now if those two items are off the table.
I’m still trying to get stuff done in WvW, despite how much I hate doing it. And that’s really not good for anyone because I’m not helping my server win, but I am taking up a much needed slot that another player, one who actually wants to be there, could be using instead. It’s just kind of a bad deal for everyone.
If you want to get 100%, suck it up and do it. You don’t have to play WvW to explore it and earn map completion. Granted that means it will take a couple weeks to do so if your world isn’t great and/or you aren’t switching worlds.
Only problem is its not just the Map Completion. You have to PvP to get the monthly achievement (first part, kill X World Invaders). I also hate PvP, so I don’t think I’ll ever get the Monthly ones, but like OP I’ll have to somehow push through so I get the WvW map completion.

Except that its going to be a complete pain in the kitten to do, since we most likely will keep being killed while just trying to do the map completion. Why should we be forced to do something not fun (even remotely fun), it goes against their philosophies.

Right now, the WvW hasn’t fully stabilized yet and server transfers are still free (warning, they’re on a 24 hour cooldown starting later today!).
Go to a grouping where one server heavily dominates the other two. You can easily get all four maps in one day, with minimal deaths and only occasional fleeing for your life.
If you can do it before the match resets today (unlikely), come to Ehmry Bay. We are stomping our poor opponents into the ground. We aren’t very good as of the last overall rankings, so I don’t expect we’ll be stomping our new opponents.
For the guy with concerns about the monthly – I encourage you to defend a keep (tower? fort? building!) with a siege weapon. I defended some building on a map with an arrow-shooting cart. It does loads of AoE, so I got lots of kill credits without leaving myself vulnerable to attacks. There are several other similar defense weapons.
It takes some time and practice to pick out a likely building to defend, and it might take some money to upgrade the keep defenses or to buy a blueprint so that you have the siege weapon. When things go right, though, you can get those kills really fast without much time invested.
And it has begun…
plz Anet give the man 100% completition for his toon and also his lvl 3-3-2 toons, better yet give him 4 legendary and why not 2000g.
Completion its not a requirement its just for fun if you dont like it dont do it. period.
i have 100% and i dont see your point, if you want be spoon fed why not try another game or stop complaining.
geeez.

If you wouldn’t mind getting hooked on phonics, you might be able to read enough to understand that no one is asking for freebies. We’re asking to be able to put in the same amount effort as everyone else to achieve a result, but not have to do by performing tasks that are about as much fun as wrestling on broken glass.
Also — and try to keep up here cause I’m going to move kind of fast — some people just don’t dig on PvP and we bought the game because the stated philosophy seemed to indicate that this wouldn’t be an issue. That the two styles of game play would be kept separate for those of us that would prefer a high wall be placed between them. For many of the long-term goals that this game provides — and again, try to follow me here — THAT’S NOT KITTEN POSSIBLE.
Let me know if that needs to be translated into monosyllabic for you.
Coming from a standpoint of playing GW1 for 5-7 years, and only playing maybe 10 rounds of pvp in all, I can DEFINITELY appreciate where they are coming from.
I’d rather be doing a dungeon most any day over WvW or pvp…BUT on that note, I dont ‘mind it’ myself, and at times it is a nice change of pace for a short while. But previously, I distasted it, and can definitely appreciate someone being heavily discouraged by the very hefty “500 kills” requirement for a legendary weapon. Hopefully they will provide alternatives (or have?) to that requirement.
As for world exploration, I think that’ is valid, as other’s have mentioned…it is a part of the GW World. You can ‘view’ a battle scene without taking part. Put on your survival and run skills, and explore away. And with really hating it, maybe knock out a section a week. I don’t like the wvw being part of the monthly…
It’s a one time thing, so it’s ok as it is. We can’t take that approach, or we’ll just get on the never ending slippery slope.
Some people don’t like jumping puzzles, so we should also remove vistas/pois that need jumping to get to…
Some people do not like fighting much, so we should remove pois/vistas that require lot of fighting…
Some people do not like underwater combat (I’m one of them), so we should remove underwater vistas/poi…
Some people don’t like crafting, so we should remove achievements for crafting, etc, etc, etc, the never ending circle.
World completion is an optional achievement. If you want to have it, then you are going to have to put in a little effort to get it. That includes traveling into WvW. Again, fully optional. You do not have to go into WvW if you do not want to. The achievement does not make you more powerful or anything.
There was already a thread about this here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/100-Map-Completion-Requires-PvP/first#post164375
There were 9 players in that thread with the same sympathies as the OP in this one. This thread just added 3 new ones. There are 4 people who seem fairly neutral with both threads taken together. There are only 3 people directly opposing the OPs with both taken together.
I would like to have real numbers on how many players would focus on PvE and ignore PvP if they are able. You’re always hearing that PvP players outnumber us and I see the large groups of people that are preparing to WvW at any given moment. I just want to know whether we constitute 1% of players, 5%, 25%, 50%, or (dare the thought) 51%?
Because, you know THIS: http://www.asuralabs.com/serverPoll.php
…Makes it look like we might (?) not be so outnumbered after all.
Jade Quarry is the biggest US server to respond to the poll and the only server besides Blackgate that responded with more WvW interest. The number of WvW players in both cases has only a marginal lead over PvE. The number of PvE players on Yaks Bend outnumber the WvW players on Jade Quarry. The combined number of PvE players on Jade Quarry and Yaks Bend together significantly outnumbers the WvW players for both servers combined. After Jade Quarry, the next three largest US servers are PvE-dominant. The EU servers tell a similar story. Vizunah Square is the largest server and it is WvW-dominant, by a wider margin than Jade Quarry. However, the next three largest servers are PvE-dominant and, in fact, only two other EU servers are (barely) WvW-dominant. Of +47000 players polled, the majority of GW2 players describe themselves as PvE players. This presently constitutes +22000 PvE players. This vs. -16000 WvW players. There are about 7000 sPvP players in the poll. If you added that number to the WvW total the two groups would split about even. There is a problem there though because sPvP players are correlating more strongly to PvE-dominant servers. This is likely to mean that the average sPvP player is actually mostly a PvE player that only occasionally engages in PvP. RP is another group that could have gone either way. You could be a PvP RP player. This is not strongly correlating to the numbers in the poll. Most of the RP players are concentrated on PvE-dominant servers. Those few servers that are RP-dominant also have higher concentrations of PvE players than sPvP or WvW. Actually, Tarnished Coast – making a strong case to be the US RP server – has more PvE responders in the poll than WvW and sPvP combined. Both of the smaller EU servers which are RP-dominant also have this ratio. The PvE players on Piken Square and Drakkar Lake outnumber WvW and sPvP players combined.
So the poll totals reflect the following trends. PvE players outnumber WvW players. sPvP players and RP players are more likely to play on PvE-dominant servers. RP players are much more likely to play with PvE players. sPvP players are more likely to overlap with PvE players than WvW players. (They do not congregate on the same servers.) The average US server has a 2:1 or almost 2:1 preference for PvE vs. WvW. A large number of the EU servers have the same tendency to produce a 2:1 or almost 2:1 preference for PvE vs. WvW. No US server, including Jade Quarry, was able to produce a 2:1 preference for WvW and Jade Quarry could not produce a 2:1 preference for PvP with WvW and sPvP combined. Vizunah Square was able to do this for the EU servers when you combine sPvP and WvW players. 16 servers presently have a 2:1 preference for PvE vs. WvW.
Now, none of that says that if the majority of players are PvE players that these have to be anti- or non-PvP players. However, I would find it difficult to believe that there are not at least as many of us as there are RP players. This has also been an important enough issue to have caused two threads asking for the same thing and 9 players to come in with the same sympathies supporting the suggestion.
Of course this concern already prompted ideas of server transfer in order to avoid or circumvent the problem more easily. The big issue with that is that this solution is really similar to an exploit in my opinion and I’m not inclined to use it. The other is that it does not really solve the problem. There are two things I can think of that would. One is the creation of a PvE-only server where the WvW zones are repopulated with monsters in place of the players. You could even use player classes and AI clones for this as far as I am concerned. My only interest is in not fighting other players. I don’t care how hard the fights are or how many enemies I have to kill for completion. I just don’t want to have to fight players. I would be happy to simply try to run through the zones and not fight back but I have a negative prediction for the success of other players understanding that I am not there to fight them. It does not seem to occur to people that I don’t want to defeat them any more than I want the inconvenience of being defeated by them. An entire server that works like this is a good solution and not difficult to produce. It should be understandable to ArenaNet that there would be people who really do not want to engage in WvW or PvP. However, you would also have to change the way that the achievements system works along with this fix and that would make it more difficult to do both than to just change how the achievements system works. I do not care if there are separate achievements for PvP. I only care that the PvE and PvP achievements are mixed together. I will not pursue any goal that requires you to do both.
