Map completion = removal of tavel cost.
Personally I like the cost it’s not much but it’s a money sink.
At level80, doing 2-4 events will get you enough to use a waypoint to go anywhere. If you’re especially frugal, using WvW+Asura Gates is entirely free.
And that’s entirely excluding the potential loot you get; even blues/greens can amount a good few silver coins.
Way points don’t cost a lot, and I don’t want to see the title of “Map Completion” be spoiled from a flood of players who do the very minimum just to be excluded from the travel fee.

There’s 2 types of people in this game, the type that have a lot of money and figure the waypoint cost does not affect them, then the type that have little money and don’t care for needless “money sink[s]”. For either type of player my suggestion would be either beneficial or would not affect them, so I cannot see a downside regardless.
It is not really a money sink but a profit cut for dungeon runners.
The money sink is for the explorers.

personally i dont have alot of money, i make enought exploring. but what you all have yet to even acknowledge is simply the fact that the small fee per waypoint is a deterant. the developers want you to explore the world to run into events on the way to another event. if everyone waypoints from point to point on the map for free u would rarely see anyone on the map at all. how many times have you walked out into a map and saw someone attacking a mob you can then help kill it and then run into an event with that stranger. also if you are talking about fre map travel if the whole map is complete…well its not hard to complete the map for one and 2 you have to discover the waypoints before u can use them so doesnt that just nullify its fee if you dont use a single waypoint the entire time you are completing the map…because why would you use a waypoint thats behind you when you need to go the the undescovered area infront of you…duh.
and it…is…not…hard…to…get…loot to sell and pay for any and all travel to any waypoint accross the world. you can sell to any merchant or heart or repir guy, there are even consumables to carry with you and u can sell straight to the TP. the only way you can possibly complain about it being to expensive or that there shouldnt be a fee is if you dont know how to walk or run in the game or kill a mob. if all you want to do is just bounce around in circles…then yes that would be pricey.
i dont use any waypoints really till after i have completed the map anyway. i find its for more profitable to just run and kill things on my way to the next heart or event.
anyway the main thing is the deterance to not constanlty skip around the map…and in gw1 there were much less waypoints and they were only in citys/outposts, not in the world you explore.
using a waypoint is optional and a convenient option…so you have to pay for convenience (why is a slice of cheese or bag of chips or soda more expensive at a gas station than at a store? convenience). if you dont want to pay a minimal minute fee then run there it takes a bit longer but it doesnt stop you from getting where u want to go.
then theres the savings route use wvw/pvp instant travel its free to get to la and la is free ports to the other major homelands. and it can save u a few silver in ports doing it that way. yes its more time consuming and not as direct but a feesible option.
now if you were to talk about repair costs and how fast your gear breaks…then you may have an actual problem worthy of a suggestion, because i spend a heck of alot more money on repair costs then travel fees.
No thanks, wp travel isn’t meant to be trivial, you’re supposed to travel to an area and then do things there (so you’ll get the cash back and more)

Uhm, I’d like to point out that you’re largely mistaken here.
Removing a major gold sink will affect everyone. How? Take a look at the BLTC. Yes, the prices are rising at moderate rate, which is completely acceptable considering how the playerbase’s average gold is rising this early on the game, but without any gold sinks the inflation would be absolutely horrible for people who take even a short 1-month break.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.

I agree with most of the stuff said by you, it does make a sensible argument travel cost is a meant to stop people from porting everywhere instead of actually traveling the map and adventuring more. So I will de-rail this thread a bit: Yes repair costs are insane, lower plz. Also making money in this game is difficult as the market value for most things is 1c, that is an issue with Anet not cleaning out all the 1c orders from the market after patching so people can’t order for 1c. The game is still new, lots needs to be fixed and tweeked, Anet will get it done I think.
