Khazad Fundinul [KF] – Tarnished Coast
Marriage System [merged]
Khazad Fundinul [KF] – Tarnished Coast
I would support it.
I don’t expect to end as virtual groom myself, but i would find such an event entertaining enough to actual leave my current area when a marriage gets announced to go watch it.
On another point, the “same sex marriage”. You don’t need to worry about homosexual love, it is already here. You heard of the sylvari? You probably heard the sylvari are open minded and don’t know real traditional gender differences (beside visual). Homosexuals are common to them.
-You all know Caithe and Faolain. But they are not the only example.
-You probably know Tegwen and Carys. Carys calls tegwen her partner, that is always the term sylvari use when they refer to their relationship mate.
-You see Eladus and Dagdar, if you choose the “Green Knight” starting story for sylvaris. They openly call another “Lovers”.
To a lesser extent, you can believe there are homosexuals in other races, just like in our RL society.
Maybe it’s not the first game, but surely one of the first games to openly show homosexual Relationships.

Lets me point it out to you that , if you think that most of the people of the world support gay marriage , you are either blind , or living inside a very small bubble.
The media may help showing that , many and many do so , and many begin do so also more and more , but today , just no. At least if you dont consider the BIG centers , where this is actually a discussion subject.
Personally , just like in real life i would not care , 0 support , 0 adversity , they keep it to themselves , i keep it to myself , we dont talk and we all live doing our own thing.
Also , if they are adding a wedding feature anyway , think they should add this also , let people do whatever they want.
Reception brawl!!! Sounds fun.
And a lot of parents don’t understand video games. My sons feel lucky their mom plays and understands not to bug them to take out the trash at raid time. :P
FFXI used to do these, with a rented private cathedral zone and a GM roleplaying the minister. My roommate and I married our characters so he could switch his Mithra Thief’s citizenship from Windurst to Bastok for cheap. Turns out, the GM wasn’t actually authorized to do that, or anything else beyond officiate over the fake ceremony and hand out some consumable party favors. Not even “in the name of TRUE LOVE”, which we tried out best (a little too late) to fake.
Also that week Bastok took a nosedive in the city vs. city rankings for the first time in over a year on Siren server, so the cost to immigrate plummeted, but we’d already spent a small fortune renting the cathedral and crafting the Rings and my friend’s Wedding Dress/Boots/Gloves/Corsage combo. It was still a fraction of what the immigration cost would have been if Bastok was still #1 on that server though, and the screenshots were hilarious.
THEN his parents found out that he’d had his sexy cat-lady character fake-marry my big bearded wizard (a BLACK MAGE no less, clearly a minion of Evil), and they completely flipped out and made him move out of the dorms lest we further convert their son to what I can only assume they imagined was a satanic pansexual LARPer cult.
So… uh… yeah! I’m totally in favor of GW2 Marriages!
+1 for playing ffxi. -1 if you still play ffxi. Abyssea is garbage! As for the op, don’t see why not. Just adds more community participation at the least, no harm done. I would probably crash your wedding as a norn bear and start screaching at the guests so be warned…
Bastok FOR LIFE! HAIL YOUR SIMPLE DESIGN
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
Calling you Cora is sweeter than Coraline…..
I support it too!
I didn’t read all the topic, but how would ANet deal with same-gender couples? would they ever be possible?
I mean, I’m fine with different genders, but I’m sure people would complain the hell out of restrictions… either way, I trust ANet, they’ve got my respect already.
I agree, Ive noticed a lot of husbands/wifes (us included), I think over all GW2 has a very solid foundation, but I also think they need to add a lot, romantic emotes being one of them, also think a marriage system would be great.
What is the problem with genders and weddings?
Well, if they choose to implement gay marriage, they will without a doubt get some unwanted publicity for that, all while losing some younger players because of their parents prohibiting them. I doubt ANet would want publicity for being the first major Western game to “support” gay marriage.
If they choose not to implement it, they end up with a guaranteed couple of times a month when someone will post into the Suggestion forum about implementing it. And they will, again, lose some of the players, this time those who wanted gay marriage.
So either way, it’s a lose-lose situation for them.
And if they implement marriage, that’s just one step away from in-game animations like hugging and kissing. And that’ll bring the same issues again. Not a path you want to take.
lol what? No they won’t. They wouldn’t even be the first mmo to do it…rift has gay marriage in game. They are western company. Guess what? No one said a kitten thing. Most gamers and game development companies are actually pretty liberal. If you’ve got a problem with gays then I suggest not playing video games…and oh don’t play on crystal desert either.

Many countries have gay marriage or unions legalized (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage). If you think that only a minority of people support gays then I’m guessing you don’t actually know much about the world or history in general. I mean gays have been around for like ever and many cultures accepted them even embraced it. Recent polls of Americans show that 53% actually support same-sex marriage. That sounds like the majority to me.

Ok i opened your post … you showed me 11 countries …
While im not sure, i think we can find more than eleven where just having a gay relationship you give you legal death penalty, just saying… well if not legal … the people will still take you head anyway.
So yeah , i agree with you , many cultures have embraced them , many other have not.
USA is a very developed country , while ofc , people will always be against this for many different reasons , but many will accept this , getting 53% shows alone how bad it would be on other places.
On other countries it is simple not this way. The general public is not yet receptive to this idea. If you consider the places where this is accepted + places where this is debated , i guess we can both agree…
Most of the world is NOT on the “thats ok” side.
Personally like i said , i dont care , they gotta fight for theirs rights and if/when they got them , well good for them.
Wow, just stumbled on this thread and I gotta say this is starting to get derailed.
As to how I feel about game marriages? I dunno, some games make it work, some games don’t. For something as casual as GW2, I think it would make a nice gimmick or something, but probably with like some game NPCs or something as a Valentine’s Day feature or something. I dunno, I think that a marriage between player characters kinda adds an extra layer of commitment to the game, and this is not the sort of game that really demands commitment, more like just a nice visit every now and then.
Eh I’m rambling again.

i am almost positive there is implied “gay marriage” in this game already..
i don’t want to give away later bits of the story, if you aren’t level 60+ yet.. but… there is at least one npc character who seems to be in a woman-to-woman love/romantic relationship.
so i’m not sure what the problem would be to allow player characters the same thing.

As for the first western game to support gay/equal marriage… i’m not sure what you mean. i play The Secret World too and there are homosexual NPCs there. And i thought Star Wars: The Old Republic changed their initial stance and decided to allow homosexual romance between players and their npc companions, even though at first the story line only allowed for heterosexual encounters…

as for the original topic, i think any RP enhancing features are a good idea. So i like the idea of in game marriage, would be neat if it had other perks attached to it, like if player housing gets implemented and married people have the ability to have joined housing.
i’d love more town clothes options too.
If you made a system and had perks for it, many players would feel ‘forced’ to do it to take advantage of the system.
It’s better to leave things like RP and marriage in the hands of players. You don’t need a piece of paper or anything.
