Responding to “Chris Whiteside” on his response about possible changes into major cities on attraction.
Since Arenanet is exploring about attracting and using more players in other cities other than Lions Arch, I have proposed a great idea for Arenanet to implemented.
Merc for Hire!
Not calling this a quest but its something similar.
Bulletins will be placed all around cities, except for Lion’s Arch, to attract players to the other cities. The reason why Lion’s Arch cannot have this is due to the fact that it has the mystic forge. Which is more than enough. Also too many players hang out in LA so, trying to avoid lag as well.
Each Bulletin will give special “Jobs” or give players to offer “Jobs” that is suited to the theme of the area its at. Meaning that jobs offered in “Charr” city, cannot be offered at the same bulletin board in another city. This includes player created “Jobs”.
Examples:
A bulletin is located in Divinities breach. The special “Jobs” that is offered can be from random NPCs from civilians to commanders to nobles from around the area. The type of NPCs that the “Papers” mention that are from, affect how much reward is given.
Players can pick “Papers” up and the special “Jobs” can send a player to a nearby zone or travel to an unlikely zone if its a rare special “job” to complete.
This can be from gathering items, killing mobs, exploring, doing certain events, delivering items, or even locating certain NPCs to deliver a message.
When you finish these objectives, you head back to the city and turn in your papers to a nearby NPC next to the bulletin board.
Please remember what jobs you picked in what cities to turn in correctly. This will be indicated, what city a “Paper” is from, by mousing over the item in your bag.
Your reward is “Community Tokens” and “Karma”.
“Community Tokens” can be traded by a nearby NPC for items used for trade-skills. Think of it as a bargaining chip for your time.
In example, you have 350 “Community Tokens”. You can trade 250 of those tokens for lets say… 15 pieces of Orichcalcum Ore, or pay 350 tokens for 8 Orichcalcum Bars.
Player Hiring
Now for in the next examples, players can hire other players to do a job for them.
In examples:
A player will pay a small, medium, or large amount of karma and silver to make a job hire for other players to pick up. The more expensive the job the better rewards.
To make sure this does not back up. The jobs will be on a timer. Three stages will be offered.
If a player finishes the job given, very quickly, that player will be given a 100% extra reward of “Community Tokens” and “Karma”.
If a player finishes the job given, sorta quickly, that player will be given a 50% extra reward of “Community Tokens” and “Karma”.
If a player finishes a job before the timer is up, meaning that the player took his or her time, the reward is normal in “Community Tokens” and “Karma”.
In examples, lets say a player takes a job offer from another player that payed a large amount of “Silver” and “Karma”.
The job asks for the player to complete a certain event, kill a number of certain NPCs, and pick up an Item from an NPC and to deliver it to another NPC. Time Limit: 30 minutes.
Note: Now remember this doesn’t have to be from the same zone, you have to travel around the world to complete certain tasks.
100% reward bonus: Finish in 10 minutes.
50% reward bonus: Finish in 15 minutes.
Normal Reward: Finish in 15 – 30 minutes.
If a player fails to finish the “Job” that player can no longer complete it and the “Papers” disappear.
Now to avoid certain dead ends about players hogging jobs. Bulletin Boards will offer “Papers” that give a minor description of a the job you need to do, to prevent limitation.
Bulletin Boards are server wide connected, similar to Black Lion Trading Post.
Any player can pick up the same “Papers” that is offered by PvE or “Papers” made by other players.
To make things less of a hassle. The player that completes player created “Jobs” and turns in the “papers” first, will get the rewards.
So its a race to see who finishes what first for the reward. Once a player finishes a player created “Job”, all other “papers” simply disappear from your inventory and you will get a notification across the screen. “One of your Jobs has been completed by another player.”
