How does that make them OP?
It requires fine-tune communication and coordination to use them properly.
The scenario you’re describing would be an example of amazing coordination more then the strength of the ability.
Similar to how a Thief can use Venomous Aura to share Basilisk Venom, giving everyone a 1.5 second stun. It seems good, but everyone still must coordinate to get within the Aura range AND avoid overlapping the CC when they start the attack. (That’s why Venom will stay applied for 30 seconds – With the idea that you could actually coordinate 20 people to chain-CC someone or something for 30 seconds.)
What Mesmer Portals have is a lot of skill-depth, not a lot of power.

The only fix I want for Mesmer portals is the stupid invisible army glitch.
Enemy mesmer portals are a goldmine for me, I throw down a frost grenade, smoke grenade and gas grenade and watch the carnage ensue.
A shrapnel grenade for good measure and then finish it off with a Barrage.
So many bodies… SO MANY BODIES!
Limit it to 5 people per use, make it an Elite skill, or limit it to the number of people per second (one per second or something like that so you cant have 100 people instantly).
Hmm, yeah, Mesmer portals need a nerf. Mesmers then again need a buff. (They’re not good in most of the scenarios, even tho they sure beat me in 1v1.)
It takes very little coordination to have one mesmer hide in a tower and then tell everyone to gather around east corner of that tower to quickittenurn it around. Or castle. 2 Mesmers for SM, and a little more coordination. I mean, if the portal could just carry 5-10 players it would be rather nice.
