Mesmer Staff skill 2 summons a clone. If you are outside of enemy range, the cooldown is shortened because the cast failed.
Mesmer skill “Mirror Image” has a cooldown of over 30 seconds. If you cast it while outside of enemy range, the cooldown is not shortened whatsoever.
This is disparate and extremely annoying, especially playing greatsword where your best damage is done just at the very edge of being out of range.
uhh what? mesmer staff skill 2 is a teleport plus a clone summoning skill. ive teleported numerous times with skill 2 with no shortening of cooldown for a failed casting, considering that it’s an instant cast skill as well.
And mirror image is also a stun breaker too, hence the longer cooldown.

Okay, then any other skill. If you fail to cast, the cooldown is lowered.
If you fail to cast Mirror Image, the cooldown is not lowered.
Ergo, that is stupid, and the cooldown on Mirror Image should be lowered if it was not cast.
But mirror images can’t fail to cast, because it’s an instant cast ability. Ergo, no shortage of cooldown. If you’re too far, you’ll still cast the skill, but no effect would happen, exactly like how numerous ranged skills in the game work, even numerous instant cast skills. making an exception for mirror image would mean making an exception for every one of those skills.
