Mini Collector Achievement - Include Special
Special minis have their own tab for collections and are not part of Miniature Collection—Set I or II so it makes since that they wont count for the achievement.
They could add a new achievement for the special minis for every 10th mini added but should remain separate from the others.
As for the collectible deposit issue, it has been brought up many times before and I am sure something will happen to improve minis overall be it a slot like the ranger pets have or just a check box to keep them in your bag.
Yes, the special minis have their own tab, but they are still minis that we earn and/or pay gems for, so I don’t know why they can’t be calculated into the overall mini collection.
Simply due to the fact that most of them are account-bound and/or limited time.
Many of them are also available in-game and not via the gem-store and thus one would be able to bypass the gem-cost of minis by letting them count.

I don’t think just because they are account bound or earned through achievements that they should be discounted from the achievement. At the end of the day, they are still minis and collectibles. Heck, the limited / special minis cost more than the standard 3-mini packs. In the TP.
I can understand from a financial point of view that it may be a good source of income generation as interested collectors would buy multiple packs, but people could be buying the minis off the TP without spending any gems at all, whereas you can’t with the limited edition minis.
In order for the minis to actually be on the TP someone must have bought them however.

^ yes, that’s a good point. But I still think the special minis should count towards the overall achievement, minis are minis! And I’m sure the hardcore collectors will still buy up the regular minis whether there’s an achievement or not. I know I would when I have some extra gems and feel like splurging a bit.
But that’s my opinion anyway and pretty sure I’m not alone in thinking this way.
Which achievement would they count towards, if they did make them count, Miniature Collection—Set I or II as there is now 2 different achievements for year 1 minis and year 2. Either way you look at it, it doesnt make any sense to count them to anything except a new special mini achievement.
Also if they were to count it would only increase the amount needed to max the achievements.
There being some special minis that can never be gotten again (afaik), how would new players have any chance at the achievement? Unless it’s quantitative, as in, “Collect X number of Specials.”
Technically, as far as I am aware currently, no achievement can be completed directly via gem store purchases (i.e. not counting the benefits of money made or something like that).
Including the special section for the achievement would change that.
In addition to the single-time reward minis popping up here, I suspect the achievement will stay with only in-game, "regular" drops.

Ah, that’s something new then, didn’t notice it. Last I checked it was just one general achievement for mini collection, it wasn’t distinguished between Set 1 or 2. But looks like only Set 1 gives you the Mini Collector title.

The original achievement was to collect 54 minis (out of a total of 55). The suggestion was to have the special minis count towards that total. New players could’ve got minis from new achievements, gem store, or set 2 to help with the total mini collection. But it looks like ANET decided to split the achievements into Set 1 and Set 2 (which I didn’t realize), so I guess this suggestion is not going to work.
Since ANET is ending Set 1 mini sales in October, how will new players get those minis other than through the TP at insane prices?
