Mini-Pet Slot
It would be a nice feature. No one would deny that it will increase the popularity. However, can you imagine that every player has a minipet, effectively doubling the movement calculation the server has to do. Causing lag and “culling” problems.
You will then have people arguing about putting them away for lag’s sake.
A counter to this is to limit the amount of minis allowed to be shown in an area.
Agreed. The mechanics of the minis as they are now simply make them too much of a hassle to utilize and bring them out for display. If there was a way to “equip” a mini and have it always be on display that would be very nice.
A counter to this is to limit the amount of minis allowed to be shown in an area.
Yeah, that limiting factor was used in GW1. Just have a maximum amount. The mini’s don’t even have idle animations like they did in GW1, so it’s even less intensive.
I think minis are cool, but unlike in WoW I haven’t found an excessive need to go hunting or buying them. I am enjoying the fact that mini’s are not really prevalent in this game
The slot could be implemented on the Fashion tab. That would make more people show their mini pets without the lag.
I am absolutely HUGELY in favor of this proposal, the equipping or auto take out mini would be superbly awesome, and it would be great to see all these tiny creatures actually running out wild instead of being stuffed in the bank or in the inventory slots just because we are too lazy to pull them out everysingle time we waypoint/die/change position and so on. I have a bunch of minis and rarely ever use them.
Now I think its important that, changes that arent beneficial to the players or arenanet, no matter how often they are suggested, wont be implemented. I understand that and respect that, thats a mandatory bussiness point of view if you want to run a bussiness succesfully.
And honestly, I consider guild wars 2 creators, no matter how cool a game they make, first of all people who are trying to run a profitable bussiness.
Which means that, respecting and keeping that in mind, I would never suggest a change that does not make sense from a bussiness or player POV.
Therefor this change that is suggested seems like SUCH a win, I cant see many players being against it, and most being in favor of it even, perhaps not an URGENT and surely its nicer to have a bug free environment then this implemented asap, but im positive for many people it would be a welcome patch.
Then on to my second point, from a bussiness point of view, given how mini’s are acquired during this holiday event (wintersday) its quite different from how it was in halloween (and im definitely not a fan of the change that has taken place) It seems to me that you are making less money on weapon skins now because of the demand to make em more accessible, and that you have implemented serious changes to make up for the “money lost, or potential profit lost” there by making the mini’s harder/ (more gem wise expensive) to acquire. Again I understand (or can try to) to a certain level why these changes are mandatory and make sense from a bussiness standpoint point of view.
And exactly for that reason it benefits you HUGELY to create an “equip” mini function because it will most likely boost the popularity of mini’s in a significant manner. People will want to show off more and so on, which also means you will sell more trough the gem store, given the new way to acquire mini’s.
All over all this seems to me, when im trying to take an objective view and take both the players and the company side of things into account an easy decision, hence I would LOVE to hear something from developpers on this subject!
I’m all for this. An equipment slot for minis would be awesome, but it would already be great if the game just remembered the last mini pet you summoned upon changing zones.
This would be a nice addition.
Yeah, they really should work like a piece of equipment or something.
Because I stopped bringing mine out with me, taking up inventory space, and I usually forget to bring him out anyway.
I’m here to say I support this idea wholly! If you’re reading this comment right now, please take the time to make an account or log in so together they pay attention to us! It’s a very small, simple thing. I bet it wouldn’t take much work at all!
I’m kinda’ surprised this hasn’t been implemented yet.

I really want this ! i always forget i havent gotten my mini out yet, please make this
This would make mini pets so much better, yes please
Maybe one could Ctrl + Right Click minis, food, boosters etc in their inventory (like autoattack skills right now) which would spawn minis in every zone, consume food and boosters when they run out and also prevent depositing as collectibles.
personally for me the main issue with pets is that they drag soooo far behind your character then portals to you. fix this please! xD
The game needs this! I keep forgetting to take out my minipet when I change zones.
Yeah this seems like a great idea. I like my minipet to be around, but sometimes you just sort of forget because you are zoning around constantly.
The idea of a minislot ist quite nice, I’d support that.
If it comes to lagg issues and stuff: what about an option for each player to show / not to show other peoples minis? The game I’m coming from does have an option for this, and it even calls pets sagain after changing the area. (after people complaing about them being gone each time they shift maps) And there’s no argueing about lagg, even with hundreds of pets in a city. ^^
Actually if you get an “Invisible bag” crafted ( Tailor, leather-worker, Armour smith ) Depositing all collectables doesn’t affect the items in said bag.
Would absolutely love to see this implemented.
I desire this very much.
I’d love to have a minipet slot.

I never thought about a food slot item. That would be great too, but only if it activated while in the open world and not in town.
I hope this didn’t get overlooked. I’d still love to see this.
They feel like an afterthought until there is a dedicated space for minis. I usually don’t have mine out due to the annoyance of having to click during each load screen.
the light! And if we dance, until the heart explodes,
It’ll make this place ignite!
I agree… a mini pet equip slot would be perfect… i wana show off my jac alop 24/7 not just when i happen to remember….

I agree with the OP.
Arenanet, I’d go even further and suggest this…
1.) Make the entire mini pet collection available as a separate inventory UI that’s available almost anywhere and everywhere in-game. That UI could look at act just like the collection tab in our bank, but with only mini pets accessible. That will solve the carrying-only-one-pet-around-in-inventory problem.
2.) Tie this panel to a new control shortcut where people could assign a key to open/close it just like our inventory. That will solve the no-one-uses-mini-pets situation.
3.) Keep mini-pets active between loading screens and even character log-in/out events. If a user want’s to put away their mini pet, they can double-click its inventory item. This doesn’t require any additional equip UI/slot/whatever, just a persistent state on each given character. That will solve the want-quick-slot-for-mini-pets issue.

I would love to have a slot on the hero panel for a mini pet that can be shown all the time, with the option to toggle it, like a backpack/helmet/etc.
Please give us a keyring…
I’d love this proposal implemented. Minis being so clumsy to use right now is what’s keeping me from getting more than the one I have.
+1 for that, I made a post some months ago about it already :S
I made the same proposal, twice, just the other day. This is an absolute must.

keep bumping the topic. must be heard.
I would also like this.

This would be perfect! Love the idea!
Voted +1. Great suggestion!
Regarding the lag issue culling should probably prioritize minis first. Though it might be amusing to have some generic comedy mini placeholder initially load, like a lawn gnome or something
+1. I have a mini bear that I absolutely adore but for all the issues in the OP’s post.
oh… since we’re having an audience, i’d also like to bump the Engineer kits+Legendary/Backpack discord. I use a lot of kits and it sucks to feel I have to decide between cosmetics and functionality… especially when it comes to Legendaries. Engineers are strongly pressed by social dynamics to either go Legendary or Kit, not both, and this really poisons the experience.
It’s already annoying enough that in WvW my guild armor logo is covered by the kit.
business aside, cheers ANet thanks for an awesome world!
Barely use minis but this would make them more attractive, certainly.

I wholeheartedly agree with having a mini pet slot in my equipment manager, or something along those lines to help streamline their use in-game. I love them, but so often forget to equip them.
Minis, even with a slot and equip and such, would still be useless and rarely used- Because they follow the player 50 feet behind instead of right next to them. It’s more like dragging a kite on the ground than running around with a cool miniature pal.

Yes please. This would be great!

I am also very surprised this has not gotten a better solution since gw1, actually it works better in GW1 as the minipets there doesn’t get deported as “collectibles”.
An upgrade in how this works is really needed if you want people to use their pets at all. If you keep this system as it is because of server pressure, I totally understand it, but then at least make it possible for an item to not get deported as collectible, by marking it or something like that.
– Right click item, mark as non-collectible in inventory. And it won’t get deported. It would help a player like me (without fancy bags) at least.
+5 =)
I have to type the rest of this message since the post requires the length to be 15…
Hello, I just recently made a forum post about this here. It was closed and I was redirected to this thread.
I fully support your ideas, and to add to your concerns, you also have to re-equip a mini upon death and respawning or even when you die and an ally revives you.
Has anyone heard an ArenaNet response on this?
No thank you.
I don’t want zoo wars 2. If players want to have mini-pets they better be dedicated to it.

I’m with the OP. I’d use my mini way more if it wouldn’t vanish all the time when my inventory is full.. My golem is a adorable!
I think mini pets should be able to hold onto an item for a small stat boost. (I.E., give a minipet an exquisite jewel or crest to hold, and stat boost is applied when the minipet is active).
Another utility they can provide is in giving them the ability to carry food and consumables, which they would use on you whenever existing food/consumables arent applied.
So I imagine the UI would be somewhere to the side, and there would be 4 boxes (minipet portrait for your equiped minipet that you can drag from your inv or equip by right clicking a mini pet in your inv, a food slot, a consumable slot (both of which can be ctrl + right mouse clicked to auto-use when there isnt one applied, and a stow button which simply has the minipet count as out but invisible), and finally a slot to hold a crest/jewel or other holdable for a stat boost.

I agree. It would actually be really cool to have mini pets serve as a sort of “queue” for food items.
I’d like the baseline to be for them to behave like WoW minipets. Add more advanced functionality after that.
