Moa Breeding
Nice idea, arenanet needs to add something like that. I find it tedious to go from point to point to do stuff like mining/chopping or doing vistas.
Part of the game’s “balancing” mechanics is to have people not move faster than +33% (excluding a couple of specific exceptions), which prompts them to use the “gold sink” waypoint travel system. If you want to introduce mounts for purely style reasons that moved no faster than +33%, then that may be a possibility. Otherwise I really don’t see ArenaNet ever implimenting such an idea.
Each race or class could have a standard mount:
Asura – Golem
Norn – Bear
Human – Moa
Sylvari – Hound
Charr – Uh…ascalonian ghost?
What say ye?
Feed them and they multiply.
Please do not feed them.
Charr – Uh…ascalonian ghost?
Charr have a serious obsession for those scorpion mobs. (This is a re-occuring theme in their 1-15 and 15-25 zones.) They’re always turning them into battle pets. Riding a giant scorpion would be just their style.
I think that maybe the Charr is it’s own mount. I don’t think it would be a bad idea. Ever been in a new area and run around finding the way point’s? getting though some of that or to them is tough sometimes. When i’m farming resources I would love a mount to use.

Ah ha! I haven’t played much of the Charr area so I wasn’t sure what a common critter was.

This is obviously a suggestion referencing Chocobo breeding from FF7.
I support this idea.
we really dont need mounts, the way point system lets us get around easily enough, and exploring the would on foot is so much more fun. however, i think you should look at your idea more in light of the keg brawl, you could have moa race around divinities reach or something like that, similar to mario cart.
I see what you did there! That is a awesome idea!
I would rather use a mount than paying for loading screens.
No, no mounts. Breeding Moas to sell as mini pets, through… Moa menagerie!
I disagree with making them into mounts, but the breeding makes for a very interesting idea. You could set up an elaborate mating scheme where people would sell breeding rights to their animals due to rare colorings or some other feature. It would need to keep in the theme of Guild Wars of only being cosmetic, but I’m sure it would be lots of fun to do. Just look at how many millions of people play things like Farmville or Harvest Moon. Actual farming (not MMO grind/farming) is both time consuming and lots of fun.
I’m in love with the fact as having them as mini pets. I’m saving all the gems i can to buy one some day.
I like this Idea, mainly because of the fact that I loved the breeding aspect in Final Fantasy 7.
One suggestion to it,
You have the same system you have for Crafting discovery for give crude example
[ item 1 ] [item 2] [item 3] [item 4]
Gold Moa Blue Moa Carrots Ball
Creates X Moa as a mini pet that plays with a Ball and eats carrots as his two actions.
Give each Moa a ratting system a,b,c,d this determines what type of mini it is
Blue /Green /Yellow / Exotic
Maybe Blue and greens only have two actions Yellows have three and Exotics give you 4 actions which one gives you a lil stat buff like
- Power +1
- Precision +1
ect ect
Of course the type of animal you breed would determine the stat buff. Might be a cool lil mini game so
I agree but people need to give up on mounts for GW this is not WoW stop dreaming of Mounts if you all miss mounts that bad then go back to WoW

Mounts would kill this game. They would be left everywhere as well. Part of the fun in this game is running around interacting with the world, not just flying or racing past it. If you want a mount, go play WoW. If not use the way points.
As soon as I saw the title the Chocobo theme started in my head.
I personally don’t care if there are mounts, but the Moa Menagerie Mini-pet idea was pretty cool.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
Mini pets are always a good idea. But I think that mini pets should be able to do something in game as well. Supply +1 armor, + whatever healing, +1 attack, etc.

Or go and fetch your loot.

Looks like Lion’s Arch has some sort of Moa race track.
It’ll be nice if you could breed to to race with them there, placing bets and all that stuff. Something like Final Fantasy VII’s Chocobo races, but isntad you being the one racing them, you’d hire a skritt jockey.
The better the Moa you can breed and the better the skritt jockey you hire, the more chances you’ll have to win.
There could be even an option to control the skritt while they race.
Why a skritt jockey? Because a few moa-skritt combinations are way easier to do that mounts showing all those model customiations, armor, costumes and town clothes. And well, no one wants to see a Charr Riding a pink moa.
Shhh! I said no one!
NO ONE!! >_<
Wouldn’t be a bad idea for the racing thing. They could even have a betting option.

They actually would not, if done properly. Most people who are in favor of mounts don’t care if they offer a speed boost, or if there’s some sort of “fee” to use them (i.e., needing a certain item in your inventory in order to use them, like needing candy corn for the scanner). There’s a thread going on currently (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Mounts-Merged/page/10) with a lot of the opinions people have on mounts.
Like I said, if done right it won’t be an issue. If there’s a speed boost at all I’d expect something very, very, VERY minor, but it wouldn’t be necessary. Most people want them for vanity purposes anyways, not utility.
