Mob Difficulty (Please Raise it)
I forgot to add that some mobs in “Group Events” are still soloable. I soloed a champion troll that was supposed to be a “Group Event” but it turned out that he didnt hit for much at all, and I didnt even have that much armor.
Unfortunately this is more of a goldilocks problem,
What I mean is that
some people want more challenge;
some people want less challenge;
some people will find the current amount of challenge just right.
So as I see it the only way to properly “increase” or “decrease” difficulty
is to dynamically adjust difficulty based not only on the number of active players,
but also on how well they are doing.
In this respect I think GW2 could use some improvement
and Anet needs to take a page out of Valve’s book
(e.g. Left 4 Dead’s “Director” system)
The trouble with mob difficulty is the balancing which isn’t always balanced fairly vs player level. Some mobs are easy while others are harder. I’ve encountered weak veterans and hard trash mobs within the same level areas. If you can avoid hard encounters then fair enough. But you cant always do that. Some are aggressive and will always attack on sight. And sometimes you have large groups, which is often the main problem of difficulty people seem to face, that need to be passed to progress in the game. That also cant be avoided.
And some of the conditions these mobs can hit you with can also seem a bit excessive. Almost all mobs can use condition attacks. A large group of them, again which cant always be avoided, will often leave a player fighting to the death or running for their life. The amount of player corpses i’ve seen downed throughout the world also tells me that a very large proportion of other players aren’t finding it as easy as you have suggested.
Now maybe i’m wrong and some people just like dying a lot or maybe they prefer running around mobs in endless circles, but a lot of people i see prefer to just stand there and tough it out. Probably not the best strategy, but each to their own. It takes a lot of time and patience to play the way guild wars 2 requires you to play, and in a growing casual player world not everyone has that patience.
I would suggest a difficulty mode, easy, normal, hard, etc. Let someone choose a mode to their liking. Some may argue that the harder you play the better rewards you should get back. I disagree with that entirely for many reasons but that’s not for me to decide. At the end of the day, a difficulty mode would go along way in appeasing many people. But i’m sure, as in every argument, not everyone would agree that either.
The down-scaling desperately needs to be made harsher in terms of weapon damage. Now that I’m 80 I can no longer run around with my friends who are 1-40 because I obliterate everything with one AOE skill. I basically have to not fight to make sure they do enough to a mob or event pack. I really want to play with them but I’m the Zerg to their Orr.
