I am receiving Piles of Putrid Essence in 50% or more of the open world mob dropped rare chests that I get. It does not seem appropriate to me that a crafting item should drop from these chests. These already drop from Moldy Bags. Rare chests are truly rare for me and to ever get such an item in one (and especially at the rate that I am actually getting them) doesn’t match with the expectations of these chests. If this is an oversight by Anet on the loot list then I hope it can be fixed soon. If it is intended that they be part of the loot list … well, frankly, that would seem petty.

Is anyone else seeing these at a high rate? Am I alone in feeling that these should be removed from the loot list for these chests?

I don’t get that many chests, but of those, I’d say maybe 1 in 10 has been Putrid.

All that the chests represent is a marker to show item rarity. Putrid Essence is rare. Since crafting mats do drop from mobs, are you asking for Putrid Essence to be eliminated from drop tables? That would make them really rare. :/

No, just that they not be included on the loot list for the chests. I also get chests rarely and the essences are a high drop rate item in them.

I concur with the opp. From those wooden chests (hard to see on the map!) I get about 80% of the time putrid essence. I don’t mind if it drops since its rare, but make it an equal chance with all other rares, or make it official that piles are the normal loot and other rares exeptional.
