Guild Wars 2 is a game where the player base is extemely important, no doubt about that. This means that making changes that upset a lots of players can have dramatic effects on this game’s future.

My suggestion for ANet is to send close-ended question surveys to the player base every one or two month, to get feedback on game progression and opinions on future development.

Consulting the base is an invaluable tool for many things, and especially useful for a game like GW2 that tried a jump into the void trying something different from the usual WoW clones. Possible question could be “What is your level of satisfaction with this game?”, “Did you appreciate the X change?”, “What aspects of the game should have priority right now?”, etcetera.
This is especially important right now, since it’s quite obvious that the Lost Shore patch made a large section of the player base very upset (204 pages of forum thread, right now). Is it really a misstep, or the vast majority of the player base actually like the ascended gear stuff? No way to know without a survey.

It would certainly keep them from being bombarded in forums a bit. They need this and a PTR definitely!

OMG! I was just thinking the same thing. I just read an interesting blog/article about this idea of content locusts. The problem with forums is it becomes a venue for a loud vocal minority. The difficulty with not appeasing the vocal minority is that there opinions greatly influence others, how they play the game, and prospective new players.

Surveys are great for both getting feedback, and publishing results to the community. That way the next time someone says in a forum, “most players feel we need X…” it’s either valid, or you can point them to surveys that refute their claim. Now a days, people throw around number and facts based on anecdotal evidence.

This is single headedly the best piece of advice that anyone here could give Anet.

I agree with this idea. It’s perhaps a good addition to the more broader responses reddit et al. give concerning changes.

What they’re looking at is ingame metrics, revealing how much money each segment of customers spends. They don’t care what you want, they care about how much money your segment spends.

I was searching just for a thread like this and found one.
Admittedly it is a month old but let’s resurrect it.

In game surveys are a great idea and have been done in other MMOs.

It will not be self-selective like the forums.

Honestly it will not be answered by all but it will be more then here and thus a more accurate picture of how the players feel and think about the game.

They should address some of the issues that keep re-occurring here in the forums as well like ::shutters:: mounts ::shutters in pain::
