More Engaging Dragons
Yes anet do this I don’t like having mass bosses make you use no tactics
This post will be two parts: outlining problems I personally see with the World Dragons (arguably, a flaunted endgame aspect).
1. The Problems with the Dragons
Its time for ANet to fix the dragons.
What’s wrong with the dragons? Nearly all mechanics can be avoided, turning what could have been great into a loot pinata.
1a. Shatterer – Stand to the left side of his right front claw and auto-attack. Adds don’t matter. The Healing Crystals are the only mechanic that requires attention. Even the Crystal Prisons don’t require any notice.
1b. Tequatl – Ignore any and all adds, auto-attack dragon. Walls don’t matter, claws don’t matter. The only notable mechanic is the various bad spots on the ground.
1c. Jormag – Phase 1 consists of simply standing on the right ledge, auto-attacking the barrier and then smacking a stunned dragon. Adds aren’t much of a problem, even if ignored. Phase 2 is slightly redeeming with pressure put on the golem bombers and the stalagmites, but (at least on my server) this mechanic can be ignored and Jormag can be auto-attacked down.
These are supposed to be the open-world raids that were much flaunted as endgame aspects, but they fail to deliver in the opportunity to provide a challenging and rewarding experience.
2. Suggested Fixes
2a. Shatterer – Make his attacks affect a 360 degree radius instead of simply in front of him. He is arguably the most “open” of the encounters. Force players to be aware of his mechanics.
2b. Tequatl – Have Tequatl’s Fingers spawn within the raid in random locations and make them immune to all damage except the giants’ suicide attack ground AOE. Have them inflict cripple, stun and knockback/down on players. This will encourage players to be aware of more than just their 1 key and their feet.
2c. Jormag – Extend the phase 1 mechanics over the ridge so players are forced to spread out. The Ice Shield is fixed, and goes down rather quickly. Make us work for each shot of our Pact Cannons. In Phase 2, force us to pay more attention to the Golems and the stalagmites. Make them crucial for victory.
I think with these or similar fixes, the dragons will be more engaging and dangerous. I think that if you guys upgrade the loot drops slightly, it would be more rewarding. Perhaps put laurels in the chests?
