Yes, let’s make GW2 renamed to JUMP PUZZLE 2….please, no more jump puzzles- and remove them from wvw soon please.
My post says nothing about WvW. lol
By your logic, the current GW2 would be renamed Zerg Wars 2. :P

While I’d like more gimmicky things in dungeons, Jumping Puzzles would make everyone complain even more about useless things to complain about. Take for example the somewhat challenging Colussus Fractal. (I’m all for JP’s, but people are pretty stupid nowadays and wouldn’t like them as much as us)
I think it’d be interesting to add an optional puzzle or not-full-group puzzle to some paths. Sorta like the split-up-to-open-door thing, only like… make a small puzzle parallel to the current path where 1-2 people can follow along and provide fire support a la siege weaponry, to make the actual route containing multiple mobs flow better. It’s still doable without, but faster with.
Or something. I don’t know; I’m thinking out loud. I do like jump puzzles, quite a bit, but I can relate to people not wanting them as required, as I have had to escort some blundering fat-hand puzzlers before (hyperbole; don’t take that insult to heart!).
So having a middleground split where they’re not required, but still implemented and beneficial, would be kinda cool if they could find a way to make that balance work.
edit because I had an epiphany right as I posted: What about trap areas that can be disabled by reaching the end alive, OR by going ‘around’ via mini-jump puzzle? Even if it’s just a bit of parkour to go up under over onwards, it’d still be kinda cool, because it could benefit the whole group to have at least one seasoned puzzler around to disable the traps quicker.

I agree on spicing up dungeons with the mechanics you presented. I especially liked AC story’s lovers. But after repeating the dungeons enough times, and the community forming guides/walkthroughs so quickly, everything gets old fast.
As far as the concern about JP’s in dungeons. Fractals I’m ok with the harpy jumping one. The colossus, though, is a little much for a “mandatory” run. Unlike if an additional dungeon path was added that had a JP in it. I don’t see a single down side to options. Even though people would just “mesmer lfg to portal 3s.”
@Mystic Starfish:
The difficult of the jumping puzzles for a dungeon would definitely need to be lower.
The focus is to make groups think more about coordination, not increase run time by an hour or get players kicked for failing. Heh.
@IVeracityI:
When it comes to dungeons, where people are concerned with efficiency, optional is equivalent to “skip” for the majority of players.
@Quiznos:
I hate Ralena and Vassar. Vassar summons mages that mass-stack confusion and it hurts. IT HURTS SO MUCH.

@IVeracityl, since I can’t quote apparently, your first idea about having some way to deactive traps…
yeah, this sounds good. More of the lazers part of CoE (only 3 people need to be able to get to the other side). Maybe like a corridor full of mobs/traps, but if you take a side route, someone can deactivate some of the hazards. That way, it’s faster, but you’d miss out on maybe a money mob in there if you deactivate the traps. Or some other incentive, not sure how to balance the choice

I’d much rather hate a boss for a challenge like that.
Instead of fractals jellyfish where you can press 1 to auto attack. Walk to a pizza shop. Break into the pizza shop. Make yourself a pizza. Walk back home. Eat the pizza. Digest it. Go to the bathroom. Take a short nap. and wake up just as the jelly finally dies.

Oh yeah, ANet needs to work on Portal-proofing their dungeons.
While I see the usefulness of Mesmers for helping players out in PvE, it’s really killing the effectiveness of dungeon obstacles.
Always makes me sad to see people yelling at the Mesmer to portal to get past the fairly simple CoF fire-boulder run.
