Hey, I’m relatively new to Guild Wars 2 and my highest level toon is 30. I really like GW2, it has an aura to it that is just fun to be apart of, but I did notice that there is a lack of weapon skills in the game. Yes, you can change between weapons but traditional MMO’s offer both variety in WHAT you use and HOW you use it. It would be really cool if there was more than a maximum 5 skills for a combination, more techniques would keep the game fresh and new as, after all, combat is a huge factor in GW2. Anybody feel the same way?

Well most classes get to have 2 weapon sets in combat, so that is 10 skills in total. If you want a load of skills pick an elementalist, they get a whole 20 weapons skills!

I was watching a video of WoW yesterday, I don’t play it but I noticed that the player had at least 4 different bars on his screen, all with 20 icons in each oh them. Crazy! I could never play a game with so many skills to remember. I think the reduced weapons skills keeps combat fluidity up.

I think Anets logic was that in games like WoW you had to keep on adjusting your playstyle due to a new skill you got a at level X, then at level Y and another at level Z. GW2 likes to keep it more simple and a lot more accessible to more casual players. I like it, quite refreshing.

GW1 had tons of skills to choose from.

The problem with that was that even with variety, people still found the best builds. And with more skills, the game gets harder and harder for a newbie to enter into. And you really do not want to make a game where the newbies feel overwhelmed.

Before GW2, I played Perfect World. And in there, they had about 40ish skills per character. The problem was that pretty much all of the starter skills never scaled properly and a lot of the higher level skills were useless in PvE. Generally, each character had maybe 10 skills that they used, including 1-3 buffs per character.

And honestly, in a lot of games, you might have a septillion skills to use, but what you’re actually doing in combat is rotating macros consisting of specific skills. And let’s be honest, if you’re using 5 macros of 5 skills, you’re not really using 25 skills, you’re using 5.

Also, Guild Wars 2 is not a traditional MMO.

i think a better way to put it is to have more options of skins but still only able to use 4. #1 remaining as the auto attack of course.
