I mean the first screen that shows up after you start the game, where you can choose which character to play with (or create one).

When you choose a character, the character model is loaded with the current equipped armor and.. well that’s it, they just stand there breathing heavily and exhibiting bored behaviour.

I’m not implying I want them to be more animated while on screen (though if that’s possible, I would love to see it!). I just would like to see slight changes.

Can you show the current equipped weapon on the character? It’s a minor change but no doubt one that has passed through the minds of many players.

Another thing is the pet of the ranger. A ranger is defined by the pet, how could you leave it out of the character screen?

That’s it. I’d be very happy if you could add those two changes to the login screen.

P.S. Would it be asking too much to change the background/ambiance depending on the currently selected character ?

You Idea is great. I think it is not hard to add the weapons in the character screen and also a background. Each zone in the game has a loading screen, so if they just add thet image as background depending on what location the character is in, it will be a really good improvement.

The character select screen what we have now it is the worse I’ve seen in any game including single player ones not only MMOs. This is the first thing thet a player sees after creating a character. The character creation screen was a LOT more advanced then this character select screen what we have now. It feels they just “throw in” just some background

First thing people see after starting the game is the character creation. After character creation, it´s straight to the game, so it´s not true it´s the first thing people see.
And after that…do you really care? I mean, you log in, choose a character and hit play, you don´t have much time in there.
Weapons isn´t the bad idea, it´ve crossed my mind, but it´s not that important in the long run…I actually enjoy seeing my character with no weapons, it´s a nice change
But the idea about the ranger pet in there, that´s a great one, I´m sure rangers´d appriciate that

Alright! Now all we need are more people to +1 this so this is at the front page when the devs decide to peek in and see what’s up!

Some very interesting ideas and while I have to admit I haven’t really given much thought to this sort of thing I find that I agree it would be nice to be able to at the very least personalize it a bit in some way thus in a sense making it your character selection screen and not just a character selection screen.

The background changes depending on the selected character’s last location.

The background changes depending on the race or profession selected.

The lighting changes based on server time or your local time.

Different aspects appear depending on your achievements (100% world exploration shows a global vista or some kind of fly-over Tyria effect to zoom in to which ever background is appropriate.)

If we compare GW2 character select screen with other MMO’s, than GW2 feels one of the worst.

While it might be nice to have a full gallery, keep in mind that you can keep buying more character slots. I think you can have at least 24 characters! How do they allow for that? Also I like the clean white background; it makes it very easy to see the character and outfit if I want a good screenshot of just that.

How would you all suggest jazzing up the select screen while preserving functionality and visibility?

we need a rotation char select with them wielding weapons (you can press a button that make them all unsheathe) all the chars in a guild halls type of place. on raised platforms and the names on golden templates beneath thy’re feat. (i can type all day but anet need to sit down and think of ways to make the select screen better!
