More uses to skill points
would makes sense. myself i’m using the points for the forge to get new weapons but for anyone whose not interested in those weapons they are kinda pointless.
Add more utility Skills, Elite Skills, healing skills.. with that we will have more uses for skill points to exchange them for more skills again for some time.
Add to the game more weapon skill related “battle style-sets”, which can be unlocked via skill point,s so that our characters will receive more diversity in their skill builds!.
Besides this, skill points should be used to progress with your class further, to unlock specific sub classes with that you can specialize your character furtehr and gain access to more skills, abilities, traits n talents.
Split up the Trait System into 3 segments:
Traits, Abilities and Talents.
Traits will work as active effects for your class corresponding to what your character actively can do.
Talents will work as passive effects for your class corresponding to the stats of a character, buff effects and so on that work in the background, not having to actively use them to get their benefits
Abilities will work as skill modifiers for your class corresponding to the effects of your weapon skills, healing skills, utility skilsl and elite skills changing the effects how exactly these skills will work for you and specializing them more to your personal play style.
That beign said, Skill Points should be used as a kind of trade currency to receive Ability Points, more Trait Points after level 80 and Talent Points.
For example:
5 Skill Points = 1 Ability Point
10 Skill Points = 1 Talent Point
25 Skill Points = 1 Trait Point
With that way will receive GW2 alot more character progression, what this Game definetely has very much in need. Away with this mind boggling terrible boring gear grind. MMORPG’s are all about character progression and not gear grind!
Going off what Orpheal said – more skills – but I have some different suggestions.
Introduce Skill Trainers per professions (say, like Master Thief, Master Ranger etc), that reside in some hard to reach areas in high level content.
Make these skill trainers teach you new PvE only skills (to avoid having the wvw/pve re-balancing issue), in exchange for Skill points.
Edit: DaWolv (post below me) brings up a good point – Karma especially has no higher level uses. So make these skill trainers ask for skill points + karma

Why stop at the Skill Points?
I think all currencies could benefit from a more wide usability.
Gold, Gems and for the most part Dungeon Tokens are fine the way they are, but Pristine Fractal Relics, Skill Points and Karma are just getting more and more and I don’t know what to spend them on.
Pve only skills are already existent, they are called in GW2 “racial skills”
But thats naturally also a point, that should get expanded.
Unlock more new racial skilla via skill points.
Obviously, even if we had more skill, at the end of the day we will still be full of skill points. What i meant was useful items that we can buy with skill points. Also what Orpheal said is vertical progression that was not meant to be put in the game, since the game is good as it is and more of these would only make the content less player skill demanding, as i think the difficulty is perfect we don’t need such things.
Ok, how about permanent +stat boost potions?
Something like this:
+1 [stat] Potion (account bound) = 100 skill points
Kinda equates the idea that if you have a ton of Skill you become tougher/stronger/etc.
Siege blueprints for karma.
Class-specific armor to be purchased with skillpoints. Rare and exotic with separate skins. Can only use at level 80. Salvageable.
As Luthan said, siege blueprints for karma. Siege manual for karma as well, to allow solely karma superior siege.
Pristine fractal relics could buy regular fractal relics.

This would still be vertical progression which is NOT meant to be in the game
This would still be vertical progression which is NOT meant to be in the game
Explain ascended gear then. Explain WXP then.
This would still be vertical progression which is NOT meant to be in the game
My first suggestion was simply to add more skills that have to be reached via some difficult journey and paid for with skillpts. That would not be vertical progression imho.
I agree with you though that vertical progression should NOT be in the game, however I remember someone from ANet once saying “We didn’t say there would be NO vertical progression” – so your comment that it’s not meant to be in the game isn’t quite correct.
