Mounts!
Wouldn’t feel right in Guild Wars 2
How mounts would impact the game -
- More for people to do, collectables.
- People who don’t use waypoints because it’s too much of a money sink will use mounts to travel the world fast. (I personally walk everywhere).
I cannot see a problem with it.

It’s not about the cost, it’s about the feel of the game. Have you ever played GW1? If so you should understand why mounts should never be in GW2 & it’s annoying when everyone is on mounts just to look ‘cool’.
Can someone explain to me what exactly are mounts? I think I have a general idea, but… not too sure.
Either way, if the point of mounts is to avoid the Waypoints cost, then it’s pretty much just going to cause even more problems. The money sink is there for a reason. Why would they create a fast way to travel for free? If they wanted that, then they would have just made WP free.

It’s also annoying when everyone in PvE just wants to farm Citadel of Flame because the armor looks the “coolest”. Please……

it’s not a way to avoid WP. It’s just a run speed increase. A mount is like a horse. Just get places faster. I mean most people wouldn’t run from Orr to Lions Arch even if they did have swiftness.

So… like a buff? Or literally an item? Sorry. >.< GW is the only MMO I’ve really played, and obviously Mounts aren’t used in this game.
It amazes me how closed minded people are.
It wouldn’t feel right in GW2? Would the saddle cause you chafing?
Honestly, you guild wars folks are an odd bunch.
Mounts would simply be another feature that many folks who’ve played other mmo’s for years would enjoy in this game. Let’s not even speak of the moronic price tag on Waypoints for just getting around in this world.
Choice is good, and the option to obtain and ride a mount instead of running endlessly from place to place would be a welcome addition.
And we all know Anet could create some amazing looking mounts.
Simple..5796, there is nothing odd about it. If you cannot respect the programmers’ path they chose for their own game, telling them to sell out their vision just to make a couple of WOW fanboys happy, you don’t belong here.
Now there’s an intelligent response.
mounts are not needed with the waypoint system thats implemented already. if you want mounts then go play wow
Included in the idea with farming. If you don’t like them, say why. I don’t want just because it’s stupid and people shouldnt look cool.
+1 for the post, I’m greatly in support of the addition of mounts in the game, granted they are implemented properly. However, there is already a larger post on the subject here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Mounts-1
Bump that post instead. There are a few more boiling opinions on the subject, and the chances that the idea comes to ArenaNet’s attention is a lot greater if the post becomes a hot topic of discussion.
It would be could a mount system a la Skyrim.
Something like, stables, outside the mayor cities.
You buy it (another gold silk) and you can use it… If something hit you… instant umount. They fight, but They die.
Give them some pretty bad IA(copy/paste flesh golem for example).
When you use a waypont far away(if still alive) the mount will be waiting outside the neares stable :-)
Against the idea. It looks silly in games where each race gets unique mounts.
I just have to laugh at those who keep using WoW as a reference to literally anything and everything, when almost every mmo ever conceived have offered mounts in their game.
I also love the folks here who get so angry at others who simply “suggest” a possible feature in the game, that they feel the need to insult and attempt to tell them to leave GW2 altogether.
After all, is this not the suggestion forum, or am i mistaken?
Mounts will ruin the way point system, so I will say no to it.
I agree with wanting mounts I’d rather save up a few gold and buy a mount then spend x amount of gold on waypoints. Lets have an example: Lets say mounts cost oh 50g most likely you would get on your mount and ride all the way to where ever you need to go and not use the waypoints.
Waypoints you are most likely spending 1.5s-4s at level80 now add all of that up each time you use a waypoint most likely over time you will be spending well over 50g+ on waypoints.
But here is the thing about mounts what “animal” would let a Charr ride it?! That would be the hardest thing to even come up with if Arenanet did mounts. Other then that I totally agree they should add mounts or lower the cost of waypoints/up the cost of loot, items, and quests/hearts.
No mounts, please. There is no reason why ArenaNet should implement mounts.
I feel like no one ever has a chance to appreciate the beautiful environments in games like wow because of the mounts, I enjoy the feeling of adventure in guild wars when traveling so I vote no.
why does this topic keep creeping up?! Kill it dead areanet!
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”

Since we’re using WoW as a reference yet again, i’ll just say some of my fondest memories in that game were sitting atop my dragon, flying over the beautiful world taking it all in.
I don’t understand your line of thinking, even remotely..
It’s called “choice” folks, choice is a good thing.
Look, if they never put mounts in GW2 i’ll be fine, but would i enjoy the choice? Sure.
And to those claiming it would ruin the waypoint system, i guess having more than one type of apple to choose from in your grocery store completely ruins fruit altogether..gotcha.
Some folks need to elevate their thinking.

Think you missed the point

Because most of those MMO’s are wannabe WoW clones, ArenaNet is all about making their OWN things, they don’t copy & paste 99% of things from other MMO’s just to get a lot of money.

Its easy to fix the second problem anet could always reduce the cost of the use of waypoints.
I don’t want mounts. I want to not be slowed down in combat. People seem to think that’s the normal speed. It’s not and it’s quite honestly the most annoying thing in this game.
Side effect of mounts:
GW2 becomes WoW
You bought GW2 for GW2, not for WoW. Please, don’t get your games confused.
Side effect of mounts:
GW2 becomes WoW
Mounts are not unique to Warcraft, you know.
I think that mounts could add something to the world (dolyaks are clearly used as pack animals, and its not hard to imagine a Norn riding one of them… as silly an image as that does conjure up). However, as much as I’ve wanted a more reliable speed boost when running around a zone, I’ve never felt that mounts were of critical importance primarily due to the Waypoint system and teleporting.
Would I embrace another mode of travel to Waypoints and running? Certainly. options are always nice, but I think it would have to fit ArenaNET’s vision for their world.
I don’t feel like this game should have mounts. I found myself using the jump button in this game more than any other MMORPG I’ve played. It feels like an adventure game. When I think of mounts in GW2 I think of mounts jumping everywhere a mount probably shouldn’t be. Vistas and jumping puzzles come to mind. There are also other areas of exploration, such as a few skill points and points of interest, that might be silly watching mounted players get to.

Im gonna say this now, alot of the concept art in GUILD WARS 2 has people on mounts XP Also I think they’d be an awesome idea!
Also I don’t care what everyone else thinks, Waypoints are not good, Asura gates are the only exception in my book.

I will accept mounts on 1 CONDITION. Cosmetic Only.
As the title said, I’m here to defend the awesomeness of that which is mounts or mounted combat. I think that mounts would be a fantastic addition to the game, and would be in no way “gamebreaking” or “wowcloneing” or what ever kinda Bull Kitten! You guys can think of.
So, be you an employee of arenanet, or a GuildWars 2 fanboy, I challenge you to hit me with any argument you think will prove me wrong. Its gonna be like hitting a diamond wall with a rubber baby hammer that’s been left in the sun for too long!
@steven, Lol your thread got shut down.
GW1 Vet and Ex WoW player
1. ANet already released a quote saying they will not be giving you a mount to ride Quest to Quest and Waypoint to Waypoint as it diminishes the overall size of the area because of the increased speed you are moving.
2. Diminishes size of WvW maps, and imbalances Mounted players vs Unmounted, and overall movement of the game because if we had mounts flanking and using tactics in WvW would be a lot easier to combat.
3. Cosmetic ONLY
I understand that initial impulse of wanting mounts after having them in other games, believe me, the first day I played GW2 I felt a twinge after completing a heart or event and by habit hitting the key that used to hold my mount macro. I had over 120 mounts in “that other game” and was quite proud of my collection.
But after playing this game for a couple days, the sheer brilliance of this design decision started to sink in.
If I was on a mount, I would be far less likely to stop and help another player if they were getting overwhelmed by a mob and infinitely less likely to stop, dismount and rez a dead player only to remount and ride off. What would hapkitten people would just ride on by, intent on their destination and leave that player to languish.
This affects the entire culture of the game.
One of the reasons I am loving this game so much is the community, the sense of us fighting things together, not in competition with each other. We aren’t stealing each other’s nodes, loots, or mobs. We aren’t riding by on a mount, impervious to the danger another player is facing.
Systems in game design affect how the players act and react. They can create or destroy communities.
We currently have the best MMO community that I’ve ever seen. Mounts would ruin that.
No mounts please, there is no real need for them other than “look what I got :P”
The game is not designed for mounts, it is designed for walking and waypointing. Don’t wanna walk? Then waypoint. Don’t wanna waypoint? Then walk.
Seriously, I still remain unconvinced that mounts would be a bad idea. First of all they would help with immersion and allow the world to flow much easier, secondly what is better to “run into battle” or to “ride into battle”?, and thirdly they already have concept art of people riding on mounts slash vehicals. I find it would be very idiotic to not include mounts with how the game plays slash feels.
Now before you rage a reply to me, think about this: There is no excuse why there should be no mounts in this game.
Don’t give me reasons why you disagree, just think about that phrase and imagine that that is your mind set for the game. Then come back to me and say there should not be mounts in game.
Mounts are a bad idea. They’ve never really existed at any point in Guild Wars lore.
Mounts are a bad idea. They offer nothing that would make the game mechanically better.
Mounts are a bad idea. Mounted combat would add an unwanted level of complexity to an already bloated system that many people don’t understand.
Mounts are a bad idea. They would require time that Devs could spend fixing the obvious problems, like falling through the world in Harathi Highlands.
Anything else?
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

No need to discuss this, Arena Net already said no.
Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),
Bytestream (Engineer), Vim Whitespace (Thief)
Necros should be able to ride on their flesh unicorn!
If you don’t like the idea (like I don’t), +1 this and please don’t bump the thread. Thanks!
If you like mounts, you can play another game.
The rest of us will…keep on walking because….
It’s bad for lore, and apparently mounts would be designed by the terrain department.
Also Anet said no.
What can you really say against such logical arguments?
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-
-Go go Espartz.-
First of all I’m not in favor or against of mounts, I really don’t care (although I would like a way for my character to run a little faster at least for a while, being mounts, buffs, consumables, or whatever).
But I think that to those who use the “lore” excuse, isn’t that a cheap excuse?
It’s like saying that firearms shouldn’t exist in our world because before the 1300s there was no historic record of them or that airplanes are inaproppiate because for most of our history they weren’t there.
Things get invented/discovered/adapted every day in our world, and even if this game being inside a fantasy world it stills bears a resemblance with this world so an adaptation like this could be plausible.
It amazes me how closed minded people are.

And this is where your mistaken. This is NOT other MMO’s this is GW. Mounts make 0 sense in this game and infact would ruin the design of the game.
Anyone that feels we should have mounts in this game fails to understand the meaning of a stable economy, money sinks, and fails at putting items they don’t need on the trading post. There is absolutely no need for mounts in Guild Wars 2. The developers know this, which is why they said there would be no mounts in the game. They also said there would be no flying, because they have an amazing art team and made sure every single millimeter of Tyria had beautiful detail. Mounts take that away. There are also no mount races in this game besides Yaks, and they’re slow.
So… basically… no. No need for mounts. If you want mounts, by all means, go back to WoW and enjoy riding a panda.

Actually waypoints take away the world art way more than mounts in my opinion, since with mounts you can actually see whats between point A and point B while traveling….

They are already doing that. Grinding in GW2 is almost like on other MMO’s but here players get punished for playing. Dynamic events are from Rift, buying items for karma like on Rift. Crafting from Aion, Rift, WoW. Achievements, dungeons, pvp all that was ealier on other MMO’s.
So why no mounts?
There is nothing new … oh wait, new are ‘hearts’ and evade system.

Not true. You need to travel to waypoints to unlock them, and with the use of POI. You need to go through the content to actually unlock these. Using a mount lets you run past all the content. Sure you could do that now but it’s discouraged with the constant mobs. Mounts are simply not needed in this game and do more harm than good. It’s a bad idea and won’t ever happen.
i don’t want people pulling horses out of their pocket. a channel and the horse appears? that looks awful. please don’t do that because some gamers can’t let go.
besides, they’d need a huge amount of animations for every race and mount to match the level of polish that the characters already have.
guild wars 2 pulls away from awful played out MMO gimmicks so well, but i guess you can’t please everybody
