Mounts
First, no. No flying mounts. Second, I don’t believe the GW2 engine could support flying mounts.
You do realize there are waypoints to take you somewhere instantly?
yes I do realize that but they cost money to go place to place I would rather save my money for better things then waypoints such as weapons, armor, and mounts
also when you are level 60-80 don’t you want to explore faster then walking everywhere it takes forever to get everywhere on foot even with waypoints
I suggest a search bar, that shows us posts related to what we may be requesting already O.o

Did you notice how all the indivudual zones have some sort of hill around them? behind this hill is the void. So Flying mounts would not be a possibility for the way how GW2 works at the moment. And i could see them adding mounts but only if they don’t grant a movement bonus like we already have with the broom. If you need to go somewhere fast the asura worked hard to set a dense waypoint system up and if you really don’t wanna spend money travel to the mists and go to LA from there through the asura portals to the capital of wherever you wanna go and run / waypoint from there so it’s faster / cheaper.
Before you make a post like this, do some research. Arenanet has already explained that the game is not designed for mounts, ESPECIALLY not flying mounts. They said they will never add mounts. Furthermore, someone makes a new “mounts” thread practically every day—instead of wasting space making yet another one, look up a previous one and add your opinion to it.
Also, as to your complaint about waypoint costs, those costs are near to nothing. Dedicate 20 minutes a day to dungeon runs, sell crafting materials, and you have more than enough gold for waypoints and savings.

After using the search feature to search for the keyword “mounts” but only seen this thread to post in, of the 2000+ post possibilities I only seen one topic dedicated to the topic of this discussion could take place in, which is this thread.
The forums seem to be broke, in that using the feature you want someone to use, will not reap the rewards you want to achieve.
This and this topic in particular is heavily debated and usually will get shut down, cause someones feelings get hurt and they report and then the mod’s lock it down. Later someone else will repost it and then its back to square one. They need to start a new “merged” so a continued discussion could be utilized by the participants until they do something like what you and I have suggested would be very welcome.
I am in agreement, to many post on the same topic. Furthermore I want the same thing and have made that suggestion before. They make the “Create Topic” have a feature that would auto search for the keywords and list the topics before the person makes a new topic and give them a warning about thread duplication before they post the new topic. As seen here.

Your statement is not true. Anet has in fact already added cosmetic mounts. (Riding Broom).
Furthermore they never said that they would never add a traditional mount system to the game, It might help your point, if you could link to the actual statement from a anet that shows without a doubt something that indicates truth to your unfounded claim.
if they go over the mountains then it should load you to the next section that you are going to if I am at the cursed shore it cost 4 silver to get to lions arch and anywhere I travel from lions arch will cost me 4 silver so times that by 10 that’s 40 silver they need to have a faster way of traveling by foot I used to love this game from the start of guild wars when they came out in 2005 it is 2013 technology has come a long way and so has gaming if areanet cant have mounts in there game then they failed I used to enjoy traveling on mounts even if I logged on and had nothing to do exploring on a mount was very addicting and getting new mounts was very fun it adds customization to the user also when you are level 60-80 do you want to walk thru regions or would you rather run on a mount to where you want to go? also areanet would have more clients playing if there was mounts also you can help people find places faster instead of traveling on foot though each region to get there I understand there is waypoints but you have to discover them before you can use them there needs to be mounts in order to get to the waypoints quicker
You can get through most zones in under twenty minutes. If arenanet added mounts people would complain about how small the maps were and that they run into a loading screen every ten minutes. Also arenanet doesn’t want players to ignore the world around them by just riding past everything not doing events on their way through the zones. I’m sorry but if you’re looking for mounts arenanet won’t add any as long as they don’t feel they have a use and since there already is the waypoint system (which is way faster so you can spend your time earning money) they won’t add mounts (at least not with movement speed bonus) to guild wars 2.
Can’t wait for Dragon Prophet to be released this year. Over 300 dragon combat mounts to tame and ride / fly. That will be a total blast.

That’s why Guild Wars 2 has no subscribtion fee. So you can go and play other games without feeling like you have to play Guild Wars 2. But i wonder how you are contributing to the discussion.

This isn’t true. They have enemies that appear to fly, but in reality, just float above the ground. If you watch, you will never see a harpy or a fire elemental move in a way that you could not match by walking. So, you could, in theory, have mounts that APPEAR to fly, but not ones that could actually fly.

Dragon Prophet is free to play also….
His contribution seems fairly obvious. Although I can’t say that I can translate that 100%, I can give a whirl, here goes. If they wont give me want I think is fun, I can and will go get my fun fix somewhere that caters to more than just fanboy’s.
The landscapes are spectacular. I yearn for the opportunity to experience an aerial tour of Tyria.
Also, I think everyone needs to stop mentioning the waypoints as an ‘excuse’ not have mounts;
Everybody knows about waypoints—obviously—and still don’t give a kitten.
They just want cool mounts. duh.
I don’t want mounts in the game in part because the NPCs in the game don’t have them either. The trinity has a few copters (that seem to break down a lot, just when they are needed) and a couple of airships, but they use asura gates (and presumably waypoints). They don’t ride horses, they don’t tame eagles and fly them to rescue the dwarves from the goblins (oh, wait — wrong story).
I am sure that mounts are a fun component of a fun game, but I don’t see that they are necessary for GW2.
NPCs dont have mounts so we shouldn’t either? That makes as much sense as if i were to say Refugees walk around with horses, so Anet ppl must give us that option too so we can feel equal to the Refugee NPC, which is degrading ppl on so many lvls.
Mounts would be a nice edition to the game and they are optional to use as well so if you dont like them dont use them….use the waypoints.

Quick question: What would these mounts be?
And how much sense does it make to be able to pull one of these things out of your pocket like it aint no thang?

Even if you can’t immediately find anything with the keyword “mount” or “mounts” please do think about it before posting. GW2 has been around for a good deal of time. Do you think you are the first person ever who came up with the idea of suggesting mounts? No. Why do you think you can’t find any topics related to “mounts”? They’ve gotten moderated most likely.

I want nuclear weapons on my minstrel. What do you mean nobody has them in the game?

You got a very loose idea of “optional”. Yes, they are “optional” for the person using a mount, but not for the poor Asura who was using a merchant when someone parked a dolyak on his face.
Seriously, no mounts.

Fred Fargone, the OP is lazy sir. They want mounts so they don’t have to earn coin to pay for way pointing. That should answer why they didn’t search for this topic already…

If you want to say that for the sake of the lore and the npc’s they shouldn’t add mounts because they would be unrealistic to the game, all i got to say is: This is a fictional game sir.
+ I don’t see how adding more content could hurt the game when everything in this game is optional. You can do dungeons or not, PS or not, grind…or not. Giving more content and choice for the people is not bad ppl. It’s the foundation of any democratic society.

Of course it is a fictional game and in the fictional planet of tyria nobody discovered the ability to ride animals so well you can’t ride them.
So the story can’t evolve? Everything should stay the same I guess…that would be so much “fun” after playing for couple of months. The story evolves with everything they add and if they choose to add this kind of content they will. So the simple question is do the people want this content to be added. Some don’t…the OP does (quite frankly i don’t care if they do or don’t). What i do care about thou is that we look outside the narrow minded box and try to improve this game, this is where the simple “NO” does no help.

I guess it makes about as much sense as making a thing made out of meat and bone come to life without a corpse…or about as much sense as a Ranger calling his pet to his side and it just pops up beside him…Fantasy setting can provide many possibilities.
Here I can think up one such possibility without even trying really.
The Asura have perfected the ability to travel though inter-dimensional portals back and forth though the mists. Just one of these ingenious guys was able to find a place in the mist where horses still thrive and are not extinct. Now with a dash of Magic(Gasp! who would have thought in game like this) you can get your very own mount, after of course you travel though the this portal and capture and tame him. Nobody ever said getting a mount would be easy.
Or maybe you are more traditional D&D player well you could use a Bag of Tricks. http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Bag_of_Tricks
But hey, I am ok with summoning(what! Magic! again) them too , which means I say the incantation and it just appears from nothing.
Or we could go the calling method which means, we whistle and the mount runs up from a distance and we get on.
If it made sense in the real world way then why would we ever bother putting ourselves into a Fantasy setting to begin with.

funny the F button still works fine…..and what does anet care about that for, they had tonics in Gw1 that would make any mount short of a dragon look small. You can not be blocked because the F button works on the NPC no mater what is standing over them.
I get it! I really do. No one wants to look at the butt of any creature when they are trying to look at some other screen that blocks out your entire view anyway.
Which to combat your poor excuse for a reason why not. I have a solution, they could very well make it so that you auto dismount any time you get near enough to a NPC where the Press F button to interact pops up on your screen. So they already have distance detection in the game, and that would make for a buffer zone around anything that could be blocked visually which you want be looking at the butt of anything anyway since you will be looking at whatever screen the NPC has for you to look at.
If anything Emerson into the game world is more breaking by having some screen pop up than having the butt of something in your face.
technically, you could count the riding broom as a mount. But I’m guessing you mean something closer to the rideable siege devourer they had in Eye of the north.

Myself, I’d actually like to see at least a temporary event transform that lets us control Charr steam tanks.

Get a bigger screen. That merchant window is just 1/4th-1/6th of my screen, and I don’t keep it in the middle the whole time.
Which to combat your poor excuse for a reason why not.
Well, you’re entitled to your opinion I guess, but so far I haven’t seen a single good argument for adding mounts, just a few wow players being loud above all reason.

So, the couple of hundred players riding mounts in a zone send a distance check 10 times per second against every merchant in the zone? Oh, that wouldn’t cause any performance issues at all.
So they already have distance detection in the game,
Which is only called for when necessary, not 10x second for every player on the map.

Oh, I’m all for more Golems, Char Siege Weaponry and whatnot.
Just no lame dolyak mounts, which would be just about the only option fitting for the lore. And naturally no mount outside the lore.

Of course it is a fictional game and in the fictional planet of tyria nobody discovered the ability to ride animals so well you can’t ride them.
That’ s not true, in fact there was many mounts, the Dwarves for instance had Summit Beastmaster or a Dolyak Rider, and Dagnar Stonepate rode a Drake. They had Junhudu in Nightfall and Seige Devour’s in EotN. The Necrid Horsemen rides a horse and so does the ghostly Banished Dream Rider, these two proves that in the past not only did they exist but in fact our fat butts was riding them around.
Oh but you want more prof how about something more recent, maybe something from GW2?
Ok! How about the quest “Desperate Medicine” Petra actually says “Look, Moa’s! There big, but skittish. It would be real easy to spook them! Remember when we used to !RIDE! Rancher Mepi’s herd? I bet these birds are just as skittish.”
They have multiple in game Artwork’s that show people mounted.
During Halloween using the Candy Powered Matter Meter and the little girl Serene got killed by a Horse.
Its fictional alright, that just means that they could add another fictional story to add any content they want.
That’ s not true, in fact there was many mounts, the Dwarves for instance had Summit Beastmaster or a Dolyak Rider, and Dagnar Stonepate rode a Drake.
Except dwarfs aren’t a playable race.
They had Junhudu in Nightfall and Seige Devour’s in EotN.
Junhudu and Siege Devourer weren’t actually mounts. You went in them, you didn’t ride them.
The Necrid Horsemen rides a horse and so does the ghostly Banished Dream Rider, these two proves that in the past not only did they exist but in fact our fat butts was riding them around.
Necrid Horsemen only stands to prove that mounts are a thing of the past. They rode horses (the only mount fitting for a man?), which seem to be extinct.

Yes, kids can ride animals because they are light. Have you ridden any dog recently?
They have multiple in game Artwork’s that show people mounted.

Again, Horses (and mounts) are a thing of the past, they haven’t been around in Tyria for more than 250 years. Maybe not even 300 years.
Its fictional alright, that just means that they could add another fictional story to add any content they want.
Even fiction has Canon.

I have made plenty of good reasons.
The popup for the F button is already in game "WITHOUT "any performance issues. What do you think that if the person is on a mount it would somehow change that.
Lore! lol, I myself could easily do what the developers do and write up a story that explains how a mount that has gone extinct can be brought back though time travel or going though one of the many possible portal into the Mists. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mists
I stand by what I say “your poor excuse.”
Some mount posts go down a normal route that can be debated, half the posts I see here are requesting a flying mount… really no discussion here. They have stated specifically, no to flying mounts. And the broom isn’t a mount, your slow on it and using a skill or dodge or being hit removes you from it so unless your idea is to run out of combat to re-equip town clothes to sail across tyria (can’t even enter water with it) then go ahead and live your dream.

Even I agree that flying mounts are a no.
Although I disagree about the broom not being a mount, it is cosmetic. Still I will hold out for a more traditional mount system just like I want fishing in the game. It just something I think will make my gaming experience be more fun. I can concede that certain elements about a mount system will need basic rules to the way they interact within the world so that everyone who wants them can appreciate them and those who do not want them will be fine just not using them.
I know that Anet has added things in the past and although it was in another game, they had put a spin on it, that made it not only fun, but almost unique. If they do add a traditional mount system, I look forward to see what kind of spin they could add to them. While maintaining the useful, stylish, and playful attributes of a mount system seen in all the other Mmo’s.
