Unlikely its not already been suggested i’m just going to say it again because i know the whole community would love this.

Benefits:
-Cool cosmetics
-Pet dances/gestures lol (just came into head)
-Faster way to get around the map

Possible:
-Mount Combat

But from me, i’d personally like it just for a speed boost whilst travelling through the map and a cosmetic implement, would be pretty cool to have in the game for just those reasons, even if we couldn’t combat on them, we could always jump off before we get into combat

sad face would be cool if they did, just cosmetically or something, mount combat could completely ruin the game and personally i don’t think i’d like it but within Guildwars, but maybe cosmetically and for a speed boost, i’d love that :P!

they could act as a permanent speed boost sigil or, permanent swiftness, better mounts, better levels of swiftness, would be pretty swift :L

Mounts would be such a great thing, I think tho as a compromise they should give players of each class 1 type of utility skill that allows players to run at 25% run speed when out of combat that way players won’t have to use quickness in their builds to move around the map normally.

It would solve alot of problems especially with their current design for champion/veteran events some people just don’t make it there in time to even get copper completion.

They said the mounts are not fitting the current state of the game world because it wasn’t designed for them but they never said they will not put them in one way or another.

By your own words, heresy works just as well. Any belief or theory that is strongly at variance with established beliefs, customs, etc. He may well be believing in a notion that is not true and is not established at all, therefore making the 4th definition work just fine.

Ok I have been out of the loop for awhile playing some other games and yes they all have mounts ….

Here is the big thing about Guild Wars that a lot of you will agree with me on and that is the character animation and movement are very very very smooth…If you jump it looks like the animation matches what you would think the character should look like doing the motion. In all these other games the movement of the character is just acceptable, it doesn’t feel tight.

If Anet brings Mounts to GW2 then I know that the same amount of quality they put into the toon’s normal movement will go into the mounted movement.

And I will say it again they could make all three types of mounts which are as follows:

cosmetic – no thrills no fluff just looks good. (buy with gems)(we already have a few)

speed – not a looker, but keeps on going and going has multiple speeds up to 33% but only in short bursts and min 25% sustained speed and can dodge 2 attacks as we can do now, anything else gets dismounted. (reward ticket and choice of plain mount for doing 100% map)(Exotic version mounts could be added to reward systems like dungeon tokens and Legendary ones could be made as extremely rare drop)

combat – an arena built in the mist of epic size that caters to all the mounted combat that the game has to offer…if you have been to the Black Citadel you know what I mean. (this can include land, air, and sea type mounts)

No flying mounts in the open world. No mounts while talking to Npc’s, if you even get near a npc for more than 4 seconds you get dismounted. Not inside of any dwelling structures, including jumping puzzles and dungeons unless the dungeon provides you the mounted system as a mechanic to its conclusion. There could be a gold sink added to the speed type mounts where as you buy feed or something like that for upkeep or you have to buy them shoes every so often or they don’t run while a shoe is broken.

none in pvp, maybe a certain map which allows them.
and maybe certain areas of wvw, a certain part of the map allows them, but not the whole map.

I’d be happy with either of them for pvp circumstances if it came to pvp parts of the game for combat

and yes the gestures are so smooth, they’d make an amazing job of it >.< makes me feel worse they haven’t already haha!

This was something they talked about before release. They built the game with the waypoint system they currently are using instead of a one or two point system per zone similar to how you see in other games. Since there are waypoints covering the maps, mounts are not needed. They have however given us two cosmetic “mounts” in the TP (the witch’s broom and the digger thing(cannot remember it’s name atm..).) While they will probably put more of these types of items in the TP in the future, it is highly doubtful that you will see a type of mount you are asking for unless they either revamp their waypoint system (mass removal) or in future content make them more sparse.

I’ve found the approach to mounts that most games take (if not at the start, in the long run) is that they try to make them as flashy and attention grabbing as possible. I don’t want to be running around a city or in the open world and see someone riding an oversized dolyak with a golden harness and decorative wings. That’s an exaggeration of course, but you get my point. I don’t want giant things getting in the way all over the place. Also, I don’t like the idea of said mounts in combat during the open-world boss fights which are already laggy as hell. I’m no programmer/game-designer so I have no clue if it’s an optimization issue, but until I’m getting maybe 20+ FPS on world events vs. the <10 I’m getting right now (with a computer well above the “recommended” specs), I’d be voting firmly against more complex animations in combat that exist purely for players’ vanity reasons.

If they’re purely cosmetic (preferably not gaudy), offer no speed boost greater than 33% (swiftness-equivalent), and are banned in cities and combat, then by all means, go for it. You can travel from point A→B in “style” and I can happily WP from A→B, and neither of us will annoy one another.

NO MOUNTS – I just have to put that out there EVERY WEEK because there is another mount thread. If you care to know the reasons why go find last weeks mount thread. I would however go for arena combat with mounts ground based or flying.

Talking about mounts wouldn’t be against the forum rules, but moderators would probably be quick to reference the previous statement made by developers, if it were a decisive yes/no. Heck, I would’ve saved the link myself if I saw it XD

In which, I am here to crush your dreams. The no to mounts statement by Regina is also in the proper context with the specific qualifier that “no” only applies for the Flame and Frost Story.
And the second link she still never says definitively that there will never be. Only that we should not speculate that anything in the artwork will make it into the game.
