Someone might run past content the developers seem to have put a lot of time into making hardly worth the reward in recent weeks.
How are they a cosmetic thing if you give them a swiftness buff? No mounts, deal with it. We got waypoints.

1. We have waypoints to move across the world quickly
2. We can walk between areas pretty quickly already, it would just make the world feel even smaller than it is.
I agree with mounts, I would personally enjoy them. And for the idiots who say that we’ll miss things that the dev’s want us to see, then why the hell are there waypoints? Seriously? You’re skipping more of the world by just going to waypoints, I don’t even bother to look at the scenery anymore due to the awful camera anyways.

Understandable but… if there were mounts you personally wouldn’t have to use it and then you wouldn’t get that feeling
Everyone is entiled to there opinon it is 2012
So there are many people out there that would like to see this thing in the game
if they added them they wouldnt force anyone to use them

But you are saying to add a swiftness buff, who isn’t going to take advantage of that? I’d rather they spent there time fixing the 3 pages worth of necro bugs over adding stupid kitten like mounts because you want to flex your kitten.

Here are my valid points.
1. Avatars can generally get anywhere quickly in the game no matter the size of the avatar. A huge Norn and a small Asura do not have a competitive advantage against each other (As long as no speed buffs are in effect of course as if one has a speed buff this is a moot point because of the enhanced running speed)
2. Mounts may seem small but on the development side of the coin take lots of resources to make. You have Charr, Asura, Slivari, Norn and Human characters. Would the creatures scale to the scale of the race? It would be funny to see a Asura riding a mount that looks to fit a norn but that would break immersion. By asking for mounts you are taking resources that can be used elsewhere (better content, new questlines, new dungeons, more polish on existing things, bug fixes) and diverting it.
3. If you give mounts benefits like faster movement speed and throw it into the BLTC it becomes “Pay to win” yes you can of course do the whole grinding for eventually having the mount. But then you have a system that must constantly beat the previous mount leading to a snowball effect. I dont think I’m allowed to give concrete examples in this but there are a few “FTP” games that are really “P2W” when it comes to mounts.
4. There is a sort of “Scale” to the individual races that I’ve noticed. Taller races have their locations effectively scaled to them. Take lions arch for example, the guide-rails are as tall as an asura on several sections. Reinforcing the fact that I’ve picked a short race to play. A mount would remove that appreciation for scale. Of course this goes without saying that an Asura has access to the power suit and depending on class can access say lich form and things. But for the sake of exploration, I rather be close to the ground.

thank you those are some very good reasons and i agree with some of them but i would still like to see them
and the pay to win thing if there was end game raids and such it would already be pay to win with the damage armor buffs you can pay for in the cash shop

I honestly would be 100% against them. We do not need ArenaNet following the norm of other MMOs. They promised they wouldn’t do that. We do not require some elite “I spent 400 hours grinding 800 of X item for the off chance that I get a rare mount” quest to feel special. I go out, a short little Asura, and punch a giant in the foot till he falls over dead I feel special. I go in a WvWvW match with a group of people and help take a fort by single-handedly keeping the enemy away from the front of the fort wall because of my expert use of the arrow cart, I feel epic.
I don’t want to be riding a shark, that is not epic. Thats just typical of MMOs looking to cash in on the playerbase in some way shape or form. We have legendary items, I want one when I hit 80. Been waiting years for GW2 sense I wrapped up redoing my necro from the ground up back in GW1 all the way to getting all my points for EoTn to get everything unlocked item wise. GW as a series makes you feel epic. I’ve defeated a god, a lich, a cursed traitorous assassin, I’ve defeated a dragon’s champion, stepped foot in orr, done tons of other things that make my story, my characters, and my collective history in GW epic.
If it was a bedtime story I told to my brother, he would be asking for it time and time again.

very orginal thank you for that its a great point lawl
Nah.
Seriously, I had a good number of cool mounts in World of Warcraft, and I still never understood why people had to hang out in cities, just sitting on their mounts to show them off. It screamed “Hey, check out the size of my e-manhood,” and it got annoying.
If mounts were small (so they couldn’t sit atop NPCs and the like) and also very easy to obtain (To prevent the previously-mentioned showing off) then I could see mounts being an acceptable addition to the game.
I’m ok with that if its somethign you want, but I would say that I and I think many many others would just like to see Map travel become cheaper or free as it was in the Original Guild Wars (in some way) Either as an upgrade or a perk or just cutting the fee entirely. Getting to where your friends are is the key reason for map travel in Guild Wars. We should not be drastically penalized for it.
I can see 4 ways to make this possible.
1: cut the fee entirely as in towns.
2: earn the right to free travel with deeds or karma.
3: Achieve free travel by completing the map thus from that point on it does not cost anything to go there. Or in other words 100% map completion = free travel like in towns.
and 4: Make it a cash cow for Gem store and allow an account upgrade for gems to remove cost of map travel. (game upgrade)
One of these options should be amicable to Anet to allow this fundamental function for playing with friends.

So… make mounts that arent faster then just running? I’d still get one ^^

If your “friends won’t play due to no mounts” then we don’t want your friends here.
Now get out of my lawn before I release the hounds.
Now, seriously. Mounts just don’t fit in GW, other than as combat mounts like siege golems, siege devourers, and junundu wurms.
And even that should not be somethin you can have anytime, but situational and/or very limited, like an elite skill, or something you use just during an event, or during WvW siege assaults.

No mounts, please, Arenanet. Don’t want ‘em, don’t need ’em. I like Waypoints just fine.
Since ArenaNet intended the world to remain seeming large and grandiose, and they believed mounts would alter the view of the world to the player…I support mounts but without any speed increase than from how your character walks/runs normally. I think mounts would be cool for cosmetic or aesthetic purposes but with no permanent speed increase.
I don’t want to see people magically appearing on a horse every 30 seconds.. it looks dumb.
Think about what you are asking for.. do you really want to see people riding around on Moas in Orr?
Just cast swiftness.. or use a waypoint.
I think thats a bit harsh Mithran I dont want to fault anyone to play how they want too, its just the question of Why? If Mounts are just for faster travel so you can run everywhere and nothing can catch you, well we already do that with quickness boosts so… IDK but if its for aesthetics and prestige alone No added benefit I dont see the problem for those people that would want it (like town clothes). But the main reason we were given for no mounts in the original was because they were not necessary cause we had free map travel… So that was why I expressed that in my response. Either way I kinda doubt we will see it but I dont want to disparage the lad for asking either…

already, i feel like i will never run up the path from say Queensdale to Divinity Reach again, taking in the stunning view of DR’s gate … after a while, Teleporting from one point to the next will all start to feel very similar… I believe we simply won’t remember these things … running/riding through a zone helps to build a picture in our mind of the area, and the adventure we had exploring it.
I would rather teleports exist at the start and end of the zone, and maybe one in the middle for some of the bigger ones. Then we could ride mounts through the area, around the winding paths taking in the landscape the way Anet intended forever more. And we can all collect awesome mounts as we go
So your friend won’t play because it’s not WoW-ified enough for them?
Who care’s about you riding on something when you cna fast travel any where in the world and the whole point is for you to fight things in the area.
I don’t understand how even cosmetics of riding something makes a game that doesnt warrent it any better.
I dont think it is a good idea, so no
I say if mounts do make it to the game handle them like thay do underwater combat
With the sheer painful nature of venturing back and forth across Tyria to avoid the astoundingly huge costs of waypoints, I’m surprised mounts haven’t been implemented in the first place. They are highly, highly needed.
And they need to be account bound, not one per character like the minipets. :/
Waypoints completely eliminate the need for mounts. I hope Arenanet focuses on more important issue and doesn’t even consider introducing mounts for at least the next year. And yes, waypoints are relatively expensive but that’s because they are supposed to be a money sink…
I hate to be a kitten-hating kitten, but I kitten the kitten out of this kitten idea.
Brought to you by the Don’t Kick A Kitten Foundation
I would be ALL for mounts if and only if they limited it to being sold by Anet. Just so they get a little extra income coming in to re-apply to the game…and no, im not talking for gems…but sold for actual money.
If they are smart they would make a TON of different mounts and MICRO-transaction them.
waypoints > mounts … hands down

.. thus the point of mounts so you don’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of coin just going to your favourite zone, you can simply ride there.
No mounts, please. Thank you.
Skyrim has both…. its better for it.
that said mounts should be handled much like underwater combat, any speed buff you get from them should be attached to your first five when rideing them. also what the hell would a norn or a char ride
A norn could ride a charr… :p
6. I know its not many but 3 of my friends would buy the game so how many does that equal if 3 of everyones friends that play buy it ALOT
But… What if I don’t have any friends? :[
I prefer the game with no mounts, because I think it just works well for GW2. However, I wouldn’t throw a kitten fit if they decided to implement ground mounts, as long as they weren’t TOO fast and didn’t make them ridiculously huge (I’m looking at you, Mammoth mount that everyone used to cover up NPCs like jerks).
All in all, I loved collecting mounts in other games, and loved the feeling of getting to run around on a super rare one that I spent a lot of time trying to get, but I think I’d rather have no mounts in GW2. Reason being, if you give people ground mounts, they will eventually beg for flying mounts, and I don’t ever want to see flying mounts in this game.
Yeah your wrong on soo many levels. If for some reason they DID add mounts, people WOULD be forced to use them or be slow turtles getting smacked on their travels. We have wp that need fixing and if your friends seriously don’t play a game entirely because there isn’t mounts.. I fear what the next generation will complain about. LAZY <Also insert negative comment here>
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”

Mounts should not be in guildwars 2.
they were not in guildwars 1
and standing by the lore, they should not be put in all of a sudden because some random says “hey i want mounts!” we have waypoints as a means to traviel and i like it that way. i don’t want to go into Lions Arch or Divinity’s Reach and see a mass of people basicly saying “look how uber i am because i have This mount”
no thanks. it’s not needed. and it just clutters up the screen with masses of people sat about on big hulking beats. <insert metal image of Orgimmar>. and as for speed buffs. there are skills in game that do that already so there is litterally no need of them, and i hope that Arena Net continues to refuse their introduction.
I am fine with mounts as long as
- they can’t fly
- you can’t use them in towns, dungeons or pvp
- you can’t perform any actions while mounted
- you get dismounted as soon as you pull a mob (no need to get hit)
Otherwise I’m a no.
Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),
Bytestream (Engineer), Vim Whitespace (Thief)
Waypoints are a pretty demanding gold sink at lvl 80. I rather have mounts for near range areas and use waypoints, sparingly, for far away areas. I’d also like to collect mounts, which is a more useful hobby than miniatures.
I’m not a fan of way points.
my main MMO has always been World of warcraft and I feel that mounts were a good addition to the game because it added content, options, a choice to go faster than your normal running speed, it also added character and uniqueness.
When flying mounts were released it was all exciting at first but after awhile I felt that the world was getting smaller, areas that I would normally need to travel through I could just fly over.
I feel that way points are very similar to that. Arena net has made a very large scale game that is actually Built to scale, we don’t have miniature sized versions of big things like wow has all over the place, and that is awesome… but…. how do we see it if we are teleporting all the time? At least in games with mounts you would need to travel and view all the effort that the designers put into the scenery, traveling from A to E you would first need to travel and view B, C and D.
The above is really something I don’t understand, They make a game that is completely “painted and hand crafted” as stated in one of their videos and yet they allow us to bypass all of that effort instantly.
I Understand that a lot of people strongly disagree with having mounts in this game because some other game (Wow) has it, and that “we don’t want to be like every other MMO”.
That’s good and all but thinking like that will reduce your options for future content, Just because one game has mounts, skill gaining trait/talent trees, raids and so on, doesn’t mean we have to limit ourselves to what we can have.
It’s like having 5 flavors of ice cream and because 4 of the flavors were chosen by other people, we need to choose the last flavor because we want to be “different”
Would you really deny yourself the flavor you enjoy just because someone else has it?
Yes it sounds stupid, but it makes sense.
I would very much Like waypoints to be removed from all areas other than main cities or limit the amount. Doing that and adding ground mounts/transports will add a different perspective and a larger scale to this game.

I vote no on the mounts. Tyria’s culture, as I have said elsewhere, does not support the need for mounts as they have developed waypoint and gate technology. If someone doesn’t want to play the game because they can’t appreciate that, then it’s not the game for them anyway.
down with mounts
bring back running :P
I have not felt the need for mounts in the game. Travel is good enough for me as it is. The only thing I want is free travel to capital cities (including lions arch). We can already do it through the mists, so they should just enable it.
I gave it a try and I have to say. I WANT MOUNTS!!!! I get none in WvW. But in PvE it should be an option. You dont want to ride one, then dont. I am not a fan of the way point system as it is. It costs way to much and I would rather just hop on a mount and go where I want 90% of the time and use the waypoint system when I need to travel great distances.
I loved seeing the tears on little srublets faces when I parked my mammoth on top of the mailbox in Orgrimmar and they were forced to look upon it in awe. +1 for you, OP.
