Hi, please read and comment on what you think. Thank you.

Mounts:
- Only realistic types such as horses, camels, trained dolyaks
- Only acquired by completing a gruelling amount of events / dungeons (i.e. extremely high NPC merchant cost or extremely rare and lucky dungeon drops)
- Speed is a maximum of 55% faster than walking
- Can be used in PVE world.
- Can only be used by pickup from stables out in the world. (what i mean here is that it is not a spell that you summon, you must choose where to store it and you MUST go there to get it, take it wherever you want in the open world, and if you want to store it or remove it, you MUST put it in a close by stable – you cannot ever just click to unsummon.
- You have to feed it once per 3 hours of active playtime and will get a reminder to do this by the stablemaster.
-You can leave the mount unfed for a maximum of 3 active days of playtime before it permanently dies and you have to grind yourself a new one.
-You can pay a certain amount of gold to the stablemaster to automatically feed your horse every 3 hours.
-Feeding the mount costs gold depending on what food it will eat. You can choose with the NPC stablemaster which food to feed it, and can choose to indefinitely feed it every 3 hours of active playtime.
-When you pickup your mount, you pay the bill in gold. If you don’t have enough gold, you cannot pick it up and go out with it.
- When out questing or exploring, dismounting will leave your mount in that position for 2 hours of active playtime. If you do not return to your mount within that time, your mount will abandon you and you will have to regrind for a new one. (so you could logout and leave it there, login and it will be there, so long as within 2 hours of active logged in playtime you return to it and pick it up).

Benefits:
- Some players would prefer to mount it across the open land using it as a tool for great exploration and discouraging themselves from using waypoints all the time, although can still use them.
- Mounts are quite right a stale, boring, and old fashioned form of travel in MMORPG games. This way, turning your mount into a companion that you HAVE to take care of as if it were your own in real life, makes it far more interesting and realistic, and could warrant the good use of a mount in GW2 that would not ruin any aspects of the current gameplay system.
- In the older days of MMO games, mounts were seen as a very high achievement and players looked on that had one, were cheered and respected or even envied because the other player without one – really wanted one. This way, players will play their hearts out to get one. And once having one, they and everyone else knows that to keep that achievement active with them, they have to undertake a certain responsibility. Doing so makes mounts once again, a really awesome cool thing to have, not just a stale boring item that no one cares about.

PVP:
- No, not yet. I don’t know how this would work in PVP, so I leave that part of the topic up to NC Soft to debate and discuss if they wish. As far as I am concerned on this idea, it is for the open world PVE environment only solely for exploration purposes and an alternative to travelling around instead of waypoints.

Implementation:
- It does not have to be now. We expect expansions to come for GW2, and those expansions may include entire new maps and more open world space, where we may need to hop onto a boat to get to them. Mounts would probably a better time to implement as part of one of these later expansions. The game as it stands now would probably not have the capacity or the games engine is simply not designed to support it at the moment.

Don’t you think that would take away from the whole exploration aspect of the game if you could get everywhere really fast? I personally think that the fact that you went everywhere on foot and took your time admiring some of the visuals and vistas in the game made the feeling of exploration a whole lot more engaging.

By no means am I disagreeing with you, not fully anyways.

I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a camel in the game.

As for Dolyaks, you only see them used to transport heavy goods, because they’re slow. In fact, you can go to Fireheart Rise and find a quest where you kill Dolyaks for the meat

- Speed is a maximum of 55% faster than walking

Too fast. The current fastest you can go is +33% from permanent Swiftness and in most cases that requires a lot of tweaking.

And it could also be seen as unfair as there’s plenty of passives which grant a permanent 10-25% increase in movement speed.

Not necessarily a bad idea, but the people who want mounts would probably find that to be very tedious. That in turn would open a market for ANet to introduce Express Stables and Permanent Express Stables, like they now have for Black Lion Traders and Bankers. And that would just defeat the whole system.

Benefits:
- Some players would prefer to mount it across the open land using it as a tool for great exploration and discouraging themselves from using waypoints all the time, although can still use them.

The thing is, the waypoint costs aren’t something that you’re supposed to avoid. They’re there for a good reason.

Also, you said nothing about in-combat mounts. Take Orr for example: What would happen when a Risen uses a pull on you? Or a Cripple? Will you be automatically dismounted? Will you be totally immune to the effects altogether? Will you be pulled but not dismounted?

I agree that they should add mounts. I would have to say make them so all skills are disabled while mounted, and have them so they are no faster then the normal walking speed. Anything outside of this would just being like playing WoW, and WoW is for losers.

Also, you said nothing about in-combat mounts. Take Orr for example: What would happen when a Risen uses a pull on you? Or a Cripple? Will you be automatically dismounted? Will you be totally immune to the effects altogether? Will you be pulled but not dismounted?

- Ok, good point on the speed. How about an overall maximum speed of 38-40%. So if your fastest on foot is 33%, using a mount gets you around at 38-40%. NOT 55% faster than your 33%, i.e. NOT 33+55 = 88% speed
- Good point on the combat:

=If you get engaged in combat, you auto dismount from your mount and it is left in that location.
=Mounts will not be killed or attacked by NPCs / mobs.
=Mounts cannot go into deep water that causes your character to have it’s action bar removed and have a blank – water type display. i.e. the display shown when you swim on deep water and NOT underwater.
Some additions:
=You can name / rename your mount
=Your mount can have a guild emblem coating placed around it if you wish
=Guilds can provide their own stable services via standard stable NPCs at their own prices to work better for members. i.e. cheaper to store your mount with a stable available at X stable merchant in lions arch if you select the guild stable and not the standard NPC / lions arch faction run stable at GW2 in game prices.

Few points re-explained:

- As stated before, this is an idea to make the typical MMO mount more of a companion the player must be responsible for. It is not just a “mount”, it is more than that.
- The only way to travel around in the game is via waypoints. It would be nice to have a mount that is fit for purpose, not one that abuses speed.
- It is a way to get players out more into the open world whether they are level 80 or new players, or leveling up. As stated before you should only ever be privileged to have one with a extremely HUGE amount of Karma for example, which you would only get by completing a huge amount of quests and events. Dungeon rare / epic drops or rare loot is also a great way to get more players actually into dungeons regardless of their class or whether they want to do story / exp mode dungeons.
- As stated before, the amount of hard work and gameplay needed to get one will ensure that not every single player will be likely to have one. I’m talking about on average 4-5 months of solid active played gametime on average for the drop % rate from dungeons to give you one if you played say 15 dungeons per day, or needing a massive amount of Karma from world PVE contribution to get 1 so that it is not easier or harder to do via dungeons.
- With that being the case, not everyone having one, it will definetely encourage players to play like hell to get a really cool GW2 mount, because as i said – it is not just a mount, it is much more than that and it’s only like that on GW2.
- Also as stated before, i realise it would probably not be a good idea to introduce now. It will probably be much better in a later expansion as a key feature, and probably would bring in further new players should they and the market for GW2 like this idea.

Did anyone get the broom from halloween?
It doesn’t even make you faster, but it kinda gives the feeling of a mount.
I would be perfectly satisfied if there was a Moa that did the same. Just a cute Moa to ride, while it doesn’t even make you faster, just for style. x)

Although I have to admit that I wish for some kind of mounts sometimes. But I don’t think this will happen too soon, if even ever.

This game doesn’t need mounts. As I stated in another topic, with all the speed boosts and waypoints we really don’t need a way of faster traveling. I’ve also never heard of any Guild Wars character riding an animal/creature.

- Only realistic types such as horses, camels, trained dolyaks

Realistic? Horses are most likely extinct (as there’s not a single horse in the game, but there is mention of them), let alone camels. I can’t think of a proper GW mount, as a dolyak is too slow.

No on mounts from me, I prefer the game just as it is, minus the bugs that need fixing ofc. Waypoints work just fine, and nothing is better than exploring the world or fighting in WvWvW on foot; makes you feel even more immersed into the game.

I am sorry, but that is an asinine amount of rules to follow. If mounts ever show up in the game, I feel they should be reasonably easy to acquire for cheap skins, and functionally the same as minipets as far as summoning and un-summoning.

I’m not against ‘mounts’, but they should have to be limited to an area, and for combat, not for fast movement. For going fast we have waypoints and swiftness.

Examples of GW2-style mounts would be:
- Siege Devourers.
- Sulfur Sand Wurms a.k.a. Junundu.
- Battle Golemsuits.
- Charrcycles.
- Choppers.
- Airships
- Submarines.
As long as you can only get them for a while and within certain limited areas. And they are not something you get to own and use anywhere indefinitely, but something ‘lent’ to you for a special purpose, or lasting or destructible.

I could really see some events giving you accessto some of them, if you made a previous event.
For example, the 5 highest contributors in one of the events before the Thaumanova elemental could get Hazmat suits.

We already have ‘strong currents’, so for choppers and airships we could also have ‘strong winds’ to limit people using a them only withing the area of the event that grants access to them.
