Hi, coming from action MMOs like Dragon’s Nest and Phantasy Star Online 2, I’m very used to a control scheme where the camera is controlled by the mouse by default, and you use left click for basic attack.

I would dearly love GW2 to provide some more options to allow us to configure our controls in this style.

At a basic minimum:
- A hotkey to toggle “mouselook mode”. This is equivalent to holding down RMB, and turns the camera the same way. Pressing the key again will bring you back to cursor mode.

- An option: “LMB Autoattack in Mouselook mode”. With this option turned on, when in mouselook mode, pressing LMB will trigger whatever skill you have set to autoattack.

- When in mouselook mode, AOEs are targeted towards the centre of the screen. You might even put a reticle there. This is equivalent to putting the mouse cursor at the centre of the screen before holding down RMB.

- Add some hotkeys, select target closest to cursor / select enemy closest to cursor / select ally closest to cursor. In cursor mode, this will select the target/enemy/ally closest to the mouse cursor. In mouselook mode, this will select the target/enemy/ally closest to the reticle in the centre of the screen.

I hope ANet can implement control improvements like this into the game as soon as possible.

Alternatively, ANet should formally announce that software like Autohotkey is allowed to be used with GW2, as long as they do not automate gameplay.
(ie. you will not be banned unless your gameplay activity shows bot-like behaviour. Having AHK running at the same time as GW2 is not sufficient grounds for a ban.)

really great ideas … Unfortunately, since there isn’t a public API for creating third party addons ANet is unable to tap into the community of developers that would love to implement this kind of functionality for them.

That aside, having the option to enable these kind of options would really improve gameplay for many users.

I really liked the way TERA freelook worked, which is very close what you described.

It’s the thing i wish for most in GW2.

I’m most frustrated by the lack of a clear statement on Autohotkey, really. There’s been plenty of, “I’m not a GM, so I can’t give you a clear answer, but 3rd party software is not allowed…” sorts of answers.

AHK can do all of my desired functionality, plus more (like gamepad support.)

But I don’t think it’s fair to disallow using AHK for customising controls. I think bot-like behaviour ingame needs to be shown before banning should occur. There’s a lot of uncertainty and fear around this issue because ANet won’t give an official position.

Well I myself couldn’t care less for Autohotkey or any other 3rd party application, I want to see this implemented in the game so everyone is on the same ground.

Well, I would like to see it too, that’s why I posted this thread. But an announcement on AHK doesnt require any effort or work, just someone to approve the decision, and it would allow almost infinite control customisation.

Whereas, even if they implement the controls in my OP, what about people who want to use control pad? What about people with accessibility problems and need some other custom setup? etc etc.

So ideally, both needs to happen.
