Q:
Multi-Guilds
This isn’t a question.
Every guild isn’t for everybody. If you were only allowed one guild then they would still keep you from the group because they are two different guilds.
The people that leave your guild also wouldn’t be in your guild because they chose a guild that only allows one guild. So the option for multiple guilds isn’t affecting that.
Seems to me that you are targeting the wrong people for your guild. Im in multiple guilds and it isn’t a problem because all my guilds cater to those in multiple guilds. The only people that could be adversely affected by the multiple guild options are those guilds that only want 100% rep time. But that is irrationally trying to force people to pick one over another when they don’t want to.
Totally agree with the OP on this… The multi-Guild system ruins relationships between ppl and Guilds that would have been great Alliances… I speak of own experiences…
I disagree. I think the multi-guild system is really useful. A person can have a WvW oriented guild, another one to kill Tequatl with, another one that is only for commendations, a small one for that group of old friends and you still have room for one more. I think it is good in the sense that you don’t have to leave your small guild just to join a bigger one that is capable of finishing content that your small guild can’t do.
To be honest, the only thing that bothers me is that we can’t see the chats of all the guilds at the same time. I think that representing a guild should only means that that guild is getting your influence.
As I said already, I’m not against multiple guilds (in fact, I’m member of two guilds), but I think we should have the option to show all the guild chats at once (and assign different colours for each guild).

I do think that there is a problem in that you have to represent your guild. I love my guild but all my characters have to represent otherwise it just doesn’t look like I appreciate my guild at all. I would like to try other guilds on one of my alts but feel that it would be disloyal

I tried arguing multi guilds back last year. They will not change it even though it isn’t a system a lot of people like. I liked the traditional one guild and multiple alliances.

Multi chatting would be awesome. I just had a thought on how it could work, too.
Make each guild its own chat channel. Name the channel G1, G2, G3 etc, assigned by the order they are in your guild panel list of guilds. Preferably assign a different color to each one (and hoo boy wouldn’t it be nice to be able to customize chat colors in general, bye bye dull grey emotes!). Allow toggling of each channel the same as we have for anything else like say, em, whisper, party, and so forth.
Then type /g1 or /g2 to determine which guild chat you’re posting in. That eliminates concerns about custom names. You’d want a “G1” or “G2” or whichever to show at the start of each line of guild chat, so as to quickly spot which conversation goes where. You could do it all in one mess, or have individual tabs for specific guilds.
Now that doesn’t allow for a communal channel for people who are members of one guild but not another; still, it’s a start that uses the existing chat system.
One day we’ll have custom channels that people can join for metachatter. One day.
the biggest problem are the guilds that require 100% loyalty.. or you get kicked.. meaning if you so much as glance at another guild your gone… those people need to go…

This. If multi-guilding is a problem then the problem is with the guild, not the mechanic.
@Donari Why not have the guild tag be used instead of G1, G2, G3, etc? To change which guild you’re posting in you could type /guild guild-tag or /g guild-tag.
Bron, I thought about that. The G1 etc was to make programming easier. Also, tags aren’t unique to guilds, so on the off chance you are in two different guilds using for instance [RP] how does it know which one you mean to post in?
I’d rather have something easier to remember when quickly typing in multiple chats. So if you have a way to overcome the duplicate tag issue I’m all ears.

The problem is that guilds can have the same tag.

Well, we could have people type out the whole name for the guild. Or maybe when you type /g or /guild you’re given a list of guilds to choose from. Personally, I think trying to remember which guild is G1, G2, G3, etc. would be more difficult than remember the name or tag of the guild.
As for easier to program, it’s not that much more difficult to program something like this. All it requires is storing the name in a variable and then searching the names of the guilds the person is in (which they probably already have stored together for when you bring up your guild window) to find the reference to that guild.
I vote for the problem being the guilds who demand 100% loyalty, not the multi-guild system. If I had my guild open to anyone other than family I would never expect 100% loyalty, just represent my guild if you and I team up would be the only requirement. Unless, of course, I join a party you’re already in while representing another guild… Sadly, my guild’s name is Order of the Rising Dragon (had it in guild wars one and carried it over)… Three years after I made it the dragon rose and tried to destroy the world, guess I made a guild to the wrong thing. :P
