This thread will contain some great ideas that are new and fresh as well as some end game suggestions that could help keep players happy that are not content with the end game grind options available (Maybe one of the Dev’s ’ill work on these during their time off?). I also compiled a list of items from various sources (and a few of my own that require no explanation) that I thought were great ideas and would be great additions to the game. I start with those:

COLLECTION OF GREAT IDEAS (and some new ones)

  • Preview option for trading post – Vendor NPC’s have it, chat has it, TP needs it too!
  • Order titles awarded in personal story wearable – character specific
  • More titles from achievements – What Ozzy fan wouldn’t love the title “Killer of Giants” =D
  • Way Point cost adjustment – half cost travelling somewhere if already standing at a way point
  • Token Collection Tab (Dungeon, Badges, Coins, etc…) but stacks larger than 250
  • If purchase an item for karma, allow a sell back option for at least half karma with a timer, in the event you make an accidental click
  • Expand the LFG option. All you can do now is say you are LFG, not why you are
  • Guild Member/Friend log in notification (text and a ding)
  • Trading Post Sale notification (text and a ding, or the coin jingle sound)
  • Dungeons can seem a bit hard. Add a practice mode for parties where mobs are easier but rewards reduced by 75% (My wife and I would love to see a solo mode!)
  • Target of target option
  • Option to display mobs health in number and/or percentage
  • Ability to inspect other players. Too often I see gear I like but don’t know what it is
  • A mini-pet slot on character sheet so as not to waste inventory space. I never carry them for this reason
  • World Map – option to turn off discovered items, make finding ones you missed easier
  • A 5th WvW queue option – First Available – which puts you into the least populated from your server
  • A COD option in Mail
  • A trade items option
  • A Crafting Karma vendor – Once you found the crafting mats in the world, you can unlock it from this vendor in Lion’s Arch (Character Specific)
  • A mystic forge history tab to track what you have thrown in already
  • Larger Raid-like Instance could be great for larger guilds. Run it like a WvW map with guild only access?
  • Duels are ok, but I think maybe a 1 vs 1 PvP option may be interesting
  • Trading Post Armor type filter by light, medium, heavy
  • Option to auto-deposit collectables would be pretty cool
  • Shards and Slivers for crafting need to be added to collections
  • Crafting components (esp. cooking)should be added to collections, not just ingredients
  • Char battle wagons and vehicle use in WvW
  • A second armor set tab for switching up armors in the zones/dungeons
  • A barber shop to change characters hair style with maybe a small gem cost (25-50 gems)
  • Large events like the world dragons should be announced world-wide. Nothing fancy, just a zone wide “There’s something in the water” would be nice
  • Adjust dungeon armor token costs so people don’t have to spend 3 months to get one set as a casual player
  • Remove TP default of Sell to Ordered Item – Just have no default at all and empty price boxes
  • More guild bank functionality and permission levels
  • Allow multiple guild chat channels (i.e. /g1 /g2 or /GCI /HOME)
  • Estimated queue timer for WvW – as simple as “you are number 250 in line”
  • Ability to purchase from the TP using funds waiting for pick up in the TP
  • Have skill flash when cooled down
  • Higher quality gathering tools get better rare find rate on lesser resources OR uses less “charges” of the tool
  • Guild officer chat channel
  • Language based chat channels – allows French speakers to be seen by French, German by German, etc…
  • Guild member time stamp/last on date & time
  • Some LONGER duration CC based skills to help control dungeon mobs
  • Tailor-able town clothes that grant speed boosts when used in towns
  • When personal story is complete, grant the option to replay your favorite parts for diminished rewards
  • Alternate trait build as a lot of games are now providing options to have 2 talent specs
  • In the Mists, display small rank icon next to player’s names
  • Invite players to group from chat window
  • Make dyes account based, not character
  • Remove all the items from the TP (Sale/Order) that are below item vendor value

REFRESHING AND DETAILED IDEAS FOR CONTENT

1. Guild/Player Housing – I think this could be a great feature if done correctly. Don’t do it like SWG and let players put up their buildings anywhere they like, but give many options. There are buildings all over the world that have locked doors and serve no purpose other than scenery. Once a guild purchases the upgrade with influence, allow them to turn one of these locations into their guild hall. It wouldn’t make sense that every guild would have a hall in a major city, especially not the smaller guilds. So you can even make these building vary in costs. For example, one upgrade is needed to purchase a permit allowing the guild to have a hall; then another upgrade to actually purchase use of the building. And these buildings don’t have to be restricted to just one guild; it is just a portal to a private guild zone. Then you can put in an NPC at the guild hall like in GW1 to furnish the guild with various things subtracting again more influence. And of course for players you can use a combination of Gold/Karma costs for a housing permit and to get the house itself, include a cost of various wood and ore to “build” the house. =D

2. Trading Post Economy – Some of these items are getting ridiculous, and they keep getting worse and worse. The legendary base weapons costs prevents just about anyone from buying them unless they have no life, sold one themselves or buy a lot of gems (from Anet or RMT). That is all that these prices are doing…promoting RMT. There is a way to fix this issue, actually 2 ways.
1.) Every other Friday dump items out of the trading post.
2.) A better way that won’t disrupt economy too much is to put a timer on items for like a week or two.
The second option makes the players that are posting items for extreme amounts to consider their sale price carefully. They will be out their posting fee if no one buys and hence make them be a bit nervous about listing an item for 300 gold. If it doesn’t sell, they are out that 15 gold and have nothing to show for it. Therefore you will see the prices of those items come down to a more reasonable cost and lower the consideration of using RMT.
It takes on average 1 hour to grind out 1 gold, less time if you are lucky with drops. I would NEVER spend 300 hours to get that base weapon and anyone else that would seriously needs a social life.

3. Benefits for Guild Claiming in WvW – This one may be a bit hard to pull off but I think would be an excellent idea. In the event that your guild is able to fend off an assault on an area claimed, let that guild “tax” any non-member that was there on the winning team. Basically when they get their loot from kills and achievement awards, an equal amount of coin is placed into that guilds bank.

4. Lion’s Arch Transportation – Almost everyone by now goes to the Mists or WvW to go to Lion’s Arch without cost. Why not give everyone an item that teleports to Lions Arch for free, or a skill. Give them a 30 min cool down. Just about every game out there has something like this, even that BioWare joke SWTOR has the option to do so, especially now when it pertains to a mission. This could even be done on a racial city basis.

5. Economy Forum Section – I would like to see a forum JUST for the game economy and frequently visited by your on-staff economist. There he can post weekly reviews of his thoughts on the current economy of the game and what he has observed with the trends of buying/selling of items. It is also a place where players can voice their concerns about the in-game economy and maybe pester him about our Real Life economy too. =P

6. Pre-Fab Chat Messages – These would function in groups for dungeons, events or even in WvW. I don’t remember is the number pad is used for anything, but something like “INCOMING!” linked to HOME or “RUN AWAY!” linked to END I think could make things easier while in groups. And tie a sound notification to it so all players are aware it was used by someone.

7. Side Quests – No, not just renowned hearts. Quests where you chat with an NPC (doesn’t have to be cut scene) who sends you somewhere to complete a mission. That mission is instanced like the personal story and proceeds like a personal story. Complete the quest, return to the NPC and get your reward. This way you are not just killing X Mobs, but actually reaching a more realistic feeling goal.

END GAME IDEAS

1.) Super Rare Item Quest Chain – This is an item more rare than a Legendary and actually has the stats to back it up. There is a reason for this item to have higher stats and not just be a skin. Limit it to the first 10 people per server that actually complete it! This quest can be started with just one very vague hint from some obscure NPC somewhere in the vast world, some scroll dropped randomly in the world. (E.g. “See the words of a hero behind the waterfall.” – which could lead the player to the waterfall in Metrica Province. Once there they can read a carved message in stone giving them yet another hint.) And don’t just make it hints. Make the players obtain rare items through various means (RNG drops, Dungeon drops, Karma purchases) but not a grind & gather like the Legendries are. After what should take a super long time to research, collect and explore the player can finally be rewarded with the Super Rare. Now here is the hard part: You need to make multiple paths for this quest, otherwise it will be tracked on a wiki and players will just use that rather than working for it and exploring the world. I mean, there are a lot of waterfalls in the world – force the players to explore all of them! And at the office, you guys can call it the “National Treasure Quest Chain”.

2.) The Game is called Guild Wars – There needs to be a guild war PvP function and here is my idea for one. With the exception of the major cities in the game, guilds can war with each other if the opt to. In the guild UI put in a field where a guild can choose up to 5 enemy guilds by entering in their tag. If the opposing guild enters in the first guild tag in their screen, those two guilds and all the members are at war and are now flagged PvP toward each other. Now, these battling guilds can PvP each other in any zone map accumulating influence for their guilds. You could also make it to include allied guilds.

3.) A Solo Lvl 80 Dungeon – Make this a dungeon that resets once a week and make it something BIG, that should take hours upon hours to clear and get to the end reward. If you don’t finish by Friday, then you are out of luck and can attempt it all over again. Make this end reward items as well as tokens keyed to the solo dungeon. After a player accumulates a LARGE amount of these tokens, allow them be able to turn these tokens into an NPC outside the solo dungeon to get one of the base weapons for Legendries. My wife HATES grouping for dungeons and therefore is missing out on content and is looking at ABUSRD amounts of gold to get the base weapon if she ever wants a Legendary. I am sure she is not the only person out there that prefers to solo more than group. I myself am not crazy about grouping due to a lot of stupid people out there, but I will begrudgingly will occasionally. And here is the kicker, make like 2-4 different solo dungeons and cycle them randomly to provide variety. Occasionally throw in new ones too. WoW had a great thing with Karazan and the theatre part if they just added new ones occasionally.

GOOFY IDEAS

New Expansion Race: PLEASE make Skritt a playable race! I love those guys!
Currency Exchange Idea: Make a box called “Arena Net Employee Quarter Bonus Donations”. I don’t think anyone there would object! The box accepts PayPal, Gems and Gold! =D
New Sub-Forum Section: Expansion Recommendations. Write about what you would like to see in the next expansion. I would love to see Monks, Sunspears and of course Pole Arms for various classes to use. AND Skritt as a playable race!
Complete Genocide: Kill off the Quagans! They remind me of Jar Jar Binks too much! =D

CLOSING
So far I think it is a great game and has been a refreshing change to many other I have played. The only grievance I have is when my account was hacked I never got my stuff back even when I was able to track exactly what was taken. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

no to the super rare item with improved stats meant for only 10 people server wide. it would cause many problems, especially since everyone would race to get those items and anyone who doesnt have atleast one item would be banned from doing dungeons etc. Also, it would give those players an unfair advantage in WvWvW against other players who don’t have those extra super powerful stats. Legendary weapons are enough, let’s leave it at that.

no to skritt, they are seen as a lesser race and they are emphasised as such throughout gameplay. people may want them, but they wont happen.

and keep the quaggan, many more people love the quaggan than there are people who hate them.

These are the only ones that I find something to comment on.

Adjusting Waypoint costs isn’t something that we need. Your suggestion would result in everyone going to WvW, then to Lion’s Arch and getting halved prices on all Waypoints. And halving the costs for all waypoints? I think not. It’s already well adjusted: costs less if you’re close, costs more if you’re far away.

The login thing would have to come with an option to login as invisible. Which would make it kinda moot.

Notifications with sounds is a big no-no. It’s annoying. You could do something like make the icon in the left corner get a shiny rim or one of those small !-signs.

Dungeons are fine. In fact we have people complaining that they’re too easy. And solomode is a big no-no, there needs to be something that requires teams.

Inspecting players is bad. Combine it with dungeon runners and get you elitism. If you want to know, you can always ask the person. Implement any kind of inspect and the dungeon elitists will abuse it to all hell.

Trading items doesn’t have much place in the game, the TP works just fine. We can already mail stuff anyway.

Are you suggesting that there would be a Karma vendor that sells crafting materials? Because if so, that’s also a big no. You get 4500 karma for doing your daily, how many materials would that buy you? And what materials would you be able to buy? Either way it would bring trouble, as there are certain rare cooking materials, plus fines that only drop from mobs, rare materials (e.g. Glob of Ectoplasm, Lodestones) and Orichalcum.

Battle Wagons and Vehicles for WvW? Nah, that would make it even worse for single players. And for the Wages and Vehicles to be meaningful, they would have to be stronger than the players. And that just turns WvW into a race of who has more people spending on the resources.

Being able to buy from TP with funds that are in the TP would make flipping items even easier. And that’s not really a practice you want to encourage.

Higher quality gathering tools? That would be doable, if you balance it properly.

Language based chat isn’t doable. Too many languages, especially on the European servers, where any of the 50 countries could argue for a chat channel of their own.

Longer CCs for dungeons? I dunno, sounds like it would cause imbalance outside of dungeons. Maybe a buff that you can buy with dungeon tokens that expires when you leave?

I would like to replay the Personal story. But the rewards? I say you should take away the rewards totally. You don’t play Personal Story for the rewards. Maybe give some rewards if you’re doing someone else’s Personal Story, though.

We already can respec traits. I don’t like it when you can just whoops change everything about your character, that’s very un-RPG-esque. And it would cause some balance issues as well.
