I like the idea of having rune sets as opposed to armor sets. But in it’s current form there’s one thing I don’t like about it: The fact that you can’t really mix and match them. Given the upward curve of bonuses on a specific rune set, you are pigeon-holed into only buying one set. An example of this is that a set can give 25 on the first rune but gives 50 on the third and 90 toughness on the fifth. So if you try to get runes from different sets you’re going to end up with worse overall stats.

I think the solution is to revamp the runes to be like the one that gives 10 to stats and 2% crit damage on ALL of the rune progression. So, for instance, in the above example perhaps the bonuses could be averaged out to give the same bonus on the tiers. So, 25 plus 50 plus 90 is 165 which divided by 3 is 55. So 1st tier, 3rd tier, and 5th tier should all give +55 toughness. That way people who currently have all 6 aren’t penalized as they have the exact same stats but there would be greater variety among what runes players would be able to utilize. I understand that most rune sets have a buff that is not just a a pure increase in stats but that can be left unchanged. If anything those buffs could still be a reason for people to get all 6 runes if they want. But again, I just want the ability to be able to mix and match without having to feel like I’m making my character worse, not better.

Btw if you’re curious the example I was using was Rune of the Dolyak.

people are using different runes allready. so if the first stat on one rune was 55… guess how many people would get an extra 330 power (or any other stat) by chosing 6 different ones.

I would just be happy with Single Runes with a much higher stats. So If I wanted to balance my character out, I might buy two Runes of Toughness for +60 each, giving me +120 Toughness, then maybe 2 runes of Vitality for +60, giving me +120 Vitality, then maybe 1 Rune of Precision for +60, and 1 Rune of Magic Find for +60 or something. That way I can mix and match my own sets the way I see fit. Obviously if someone stacks 6 runes of Vitality, they’ll have a Huge life pool, but wont have much in the way of Toughness. So ultimately it would work itself out.
