I wont even mention fixing bugs and balancing classes ’cause its obvious.

1. Remove down state form PvP. If you die – you die. Now on every single downed player you will get 7 braindeads trying to finish him while enemy team captures point or wipes them all and at the end the victim gets up.

2. Get rid of this ridiculous capture the point mode. Noone wants to run around map in circle, this is not nascar race.

3. Bring in ladders,ranks and general player ranking. Everyone wants too see their name in high positon at ladder and show it to their friends. Both solo and premade teams.

4. Add 4×4 team deathmach arena both random and ranked.

5. Remove Hotjoin. Every single time loosing teams just leaves the game because no punishments are involved.

6. PvP should include PvE rewards of somekind. Maybe skins, maybe pets or maybe even exp tokens for their alts or even the hero they are playing. Actually beeing able to lvl up only by PvP would spring it back to life.

7. Enable sparring in Mists. Only real way to learn your class is to duel someone else. Zerging isint the way. People get killed, get frustated and just leaves the class or game entirely.

8 . Remove this ridiculous PvP crafting. For playing players should receive someking of tokens and for them buy gear. Better looking gear – more tokens. Same with weapons. Beeing flashy and unique looking will take time but it will also indicate players rank and experience in battlefield.

Ofcourse if would be safer add ’ its my opinion ’ but i wont. Its not opinion .. these are things , atleast some of them , which must be done to bring pvp back to its glory.

I bought this game for PvP. I got nothing but frustation so far.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

I agree with points 3, ,6 and 7. I have a lot of time and hours in on my Mesmer rank 30 yet when I try to play “the other pvp, WVW” I can’t as he is only lvl 11 lol. I know that class inside and out and I know the weapons and utilities traits and everything else, yet I don’t even have a 3rd utility skill unlocked… We should be able to level up or make a little Gold from spvping, it shouldn’t punish us for playing the game we want. My Rl friends don’t like pvping, I love it, I still want to run dungeons and other PVE things with them every once in a while…. But I can’t. Not to mention I am so broke and so far behind the power curve money wise because I just s and TPVP, when I go to the “real world” to buy kitten prices have skyrocketed… WTF celestial and black dyes??

Down state will never, ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever,ever, be gone. I don’t know if I put enough emphasis on that, so re-read it if you need to.

The current balance relies on downstate – the biggest drawback to going burst/glass cannon is how having to stomp the player afterwards. Burst thieves would actually be OP without down-state. They could maul a player, restealth, then maul another player. The reason you don’t see this happening now is because any glass cannon that goes for a stomp usually ends up on the ground next to you a second later, as it was designed.

If you’re a thief and haven’t
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

Since they won’t remove it, I think what needs to be done is make all classes have the same abilities while downed. An interrupt, a slow heal, and a low dmg attack. They can’t balance classes in normal combat why are they going to even attempt it with downed state. The concept is for a teammate to come save you, why does it need to be complicated. I think that’s the only fix to make it normalized.

I agree with some stuff but I just want a lobby for 1v1s and duel system. The lobby for 1v1 should be like
-1st person goes against the 2nd person
-Who ever win goes against the next person in room

A lot of people may disagree, but fact is: if downed state is removed, I will instantly install the game again and play PvP.

All other points you make are a nice bonus, though I disagree on point 2. Capture points is fine, only it should be optional (there should be more than just capture points).

…i feel down state is essential. i’m a much better tank downed then i am alive while under water.

on a serious note, downed state allows me to take out glass cannon thieves who are just plain bad. if they get lucky and back stab→hs me and don’t cloak more than once after i use howl and my interrupt then they deserve to face the dirt throwing struggle while my pet heals me.

They’ve yet to make any big changes with the state of PvP. I’m not sure when they will (I’m assuming probably by the end of January… sadly for me – that’s when school starts again ._.).

I’ve given up hopes for them to make any “big changes” to their game, because these guys are always too busy cultivating their own ideas rather than trying to compromise with the feedbacks that they’re getting.

It seems when any player suggest an abrupt change, they always try to down-play it too much (just so they’re careful), but they don’t really try to extract the point that these players are making. Like the OP’s suggestion, some of them are realistically impossible to follow upon (ie. there’s almost 0% chance that they’ll remove down-state).

But the point from the OP is just the typical extreme feedbacks/suggestions which are normal for players to post on feedback forums. That is why Anet needs to seriously start extracting datas from the datas they collect, and not just simply reading off linear datas from charts then basing the updates they’re going to work on on that, sure it’s good to be careful (the advice here is not telling them not to) but ultimately most feedbacks don’t straight up represents the key datas, instead the devs. would have to extract the point.

I think the point the OP is making here: is that there is a lack of structure with the way PvP cap points works, and especially for pug players this is very frustrating to play in a disoriented way where the whole game is about capping as many points and ultimately that makes your team win.

LT;DR – Anet, you’ve advertised the game to be casual friendly, and yet your PvP play style is of the type which involves many complicated indirect options to win the game, and it’s complicated only because there’s not set ways of progression in the PvP gameplay (okay, you’ve set up on the point. what’s next?).

This is exactly like League of Legends: Dominion. That kitten will never be competitive and the fun only lasts for awhile, period.

It beats me how Anet would ever think that that type of gameplay would ever stick as as PvP fundamental gameplay, and to me it’s like…. they just came out of the traditional MMO nutshell and doesn’t know what a depth combat is in nowaday games. Really they’ve got 2 choices left here for PvP:

1) Realize that CTP is all about disoriented gameplay, and that to make it into oriented PvP gameplay there needs to additional mechanics added to it.
2) Scratch and start from something else original.

Right now the PvP gameplay ain’t original nor is it building on what has been successful (ie. it’s just a carbon copy of League of Legends: Dominon in 3D). All this talk about down-state is funny, because it’s purely a balance issue which Anet is taking forever to fix, costinng all the other bigger issues to continue to float out there (ie. how are they going to make this game more interesting in terms of depth?).

Not true. Once glass cannon lets out his combo he is walking target and thats then your chance comes in.

Anyway removing downstate would force people to actually think of what they are doing and take care of their ‘lifes’ . Guardians would start to guard someone esle insted of themself, builds like healing/support eles would be useful. Engis would come back into scene also with all their utility .

Now all you have is zerging fiesta with noone taking even slightest care of anyone else around them.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

1: Although it does break the flow of the game pace, it is unique new system that makes it more rewarding for teamplay and awareness.

2: No, keep Domination / Capture mode, but include more / alternative modes to choose from.

5: Not sure, its the easiest way to obtain Daily PvP, remove point system to discourage zerging and emphisise more on node defense, succesfully defending a node now yields no real reward compared to zerging around killing and retaking nodes all the time. A possible idea could be to give 1 Point per second for standing on a node, this way defending makes sense if they keep this point system.

6: Uhm…leveling is neither hard nor slow in this game, I like the fact that they are seperate here. This point is more a personal prefferance.

7: Yes, we need a dueling system, for beginners / “Noobs” to try out builds and get some basic expirience before jumping into a full fray.

8: Current system is fine, higher rank has access to more flashy looking gear, however they are marely estecics. Thus here rank only indicates expirience, not faceroll gear advantage.

I disagree with you. Downed state is pretty much what I like most about pvp. It works well.

I have played many pvp games that have absolutely kitten amount of crowd control spells. Fears that last for 10 seconds. Polymorphs that last for 10+ seconds. This if something hurts the flow of the game.

Downed state is THE crowd control of Guild Wars 2. If someone over extends himself and doesn’t play his cards right he’s about to get downed. And if there isn’t someone around to clean up your mistakes you’re dead. Love it – a system that truly punishes you for playing bad. And even if you do get downed, you still have the ability to deal damage and whatnot.

Also, if this game ever gets a spectator mode, the downed state will be a fantastic thing to look for in the casted games. The system will produce some nice nail biter moments if the downed player gets ressed or stomped.

I also dislike the current hot join but deleting would be a little harsh. At least the system has to be built around matchmaking and rating to give people the incentive to play better. Right now it’s just something where people go to test bad builds.

OT: I think ArenaNET needs to make the tournament system a little clearer. I have played this game since launch, and i just learned a week ago you can queue to tournament games without a group. The pointlessness of free tournaments that don’t give any rating or whatsoever is a whole another topic.

1. There are pros and cons about downed state, i’d rather no downed state at all on SPVP because it would make pvp a lot more cleaner, 8vs8 right now is a big messy zerg.

2. Diversity and freedom of choice, yes always its a good thing. Big cap circles are easy to understand for spectators. GW2 Dev team has to decide are they making this game for actual players or their imaginary ESPORT spectators?

3. I haven’t anything to say on the topic, i guess its a good thing.

8. Pvp Crafting is THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING for me regarding SPVP.
My character is level 40 (rank 12 pvp) I love my level 35 cultural gear.
It’s sad that I won’t EVER acquire it on SPVP due to the the fact it takes about 7.500.00 glory to reach the required level.
This linear gear progression is way too grindy. Guild wars 2 offers different ways to experience PVE and WvW content and character progression, this is not true when it comes to SPVP tho. SPVP is repetitive (lack of game modes, arena and duel) and grindy as hell

People who can’t handle downed state just fail to adept. It’s something new and exciting. Learn to deal with it. It actually adds a lot of depth to the gameplay. Sure it can use tweaking (thief 1 does maybe too much damage, ele heal, ranger underwater, etc.) but overall it’s a) here to stay and b) actually fun.

1. If a team needs 7 people to finish someone off, they’re doing it wrong. A few tweaks could be made to balance out the various downed states, but it’s otherwise fine as-is.

2. We don’t need to get rid of this mode, but another mode desperately needs to be added . Right now the winning team is whoever can last the longest while staying in the circle, making tank builds god tier. IMO the only competitive mode should be a 5v5 arena-esque mode.

3. Sort of already implemented in the current ranking system, but yes it could be improved.

4. Yes.

5. Make unranked PvP servers and allow free join/leave, and ranked servers give a rank penalty when you leave.

6. Ever heard of WvW? They have a great majority of what you described.

7. Hell yes. Right now the only way to duel someone is to go on a low pop PvP server, which has its own array of problems.

8. Glory is basically the tokens you just described. But as to what gear is “better looking”, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What I want is a polished/balanced downed state mode. Downed state skills are more likely to be useless than useful due to the boring skills to choose from. Brilliant idea with lack of effort put in to it.

We who have played SPVP for quiet some time knows that this PVP mode need to be added to. Can’t stand it much longer. My suggestion would be to make 1 or 2 maps CTP and the next map something different. But the main focus should be slaughtering people. Bunker builds are more appreciated than Burst builds which only focusing on damage output.

Yes. And I’m more than sure Arenanet will implement it in the 2013’s patch when they remove Wintersday.

Punishment should be implemented already and should’ve arrived with the Wintersday patch. I haven’t seen any punishments though. Suggestion here would be to be removing your Glory Boost consumer? And the loosing teams often consists of newcomers or people who are trying their new builds unfortunately…

For further acknowledgement on your suggestion I vote yes on this suggestion due to the endless grinding in PVP… The rewards suck, the lack of glory and the endless hours spent to level up in PVP…

No. The Heart Of The Mist is already populated. A sparring server would suit better. A sparring house to go and sign up to/create server at.

Remove PvP crafting is a stupid idea. I like the thrill knowing that I might not get the item I want just now. Instead, PVP should be as previously mentioned “more rewarding”.
