I am getting frustrated. It seems like Anet is listening to the Q_Q and not the.
Seriously, I was attracted to this game for it’s versatility, for the thousands of ways you could play the class.
I didn’t have to be railroaded into a class ‘type’ of which there were only two. You could play a thief that was tough as nails and just as strong. You can play a freaking melee elementalist, a class that usually demands distance for crying out loud. The possibilities seemed endless, but now I’m starting to see they’re trying to take away that bottomless pot of golden joy either because they’re getting nervous or people who are whining are beginning to take the place of the real loyal customers.
This started with mesmers, and now it’s branching out to thieves. You can’t just take away a skill that you ADVERTISED at the beginning of the game. Yes the video was replaced, but holy crap what are you doing? Thieves don’t have much going for them on the offence, stop taking away what they have left!
What I liked was that I didn’t have to play a thief that had to run away all the time. I could put on some decent armour and stats, wade in and either take someone with me, make a lot of people hurt, finish off a small mob alone, take out a veteran or die trying any one of those. I don’t like this stupidity of being forced slowly into the ‘stab-and-run’ technique niche. I will not be bullied into a role that doesn’t suit my play style, or my freaking character style. That is what you advertise isn’t it Anet? This is MY story, and what good is my story when my character can’t even be them self? I’m afraid you’re going to ruin the good thing you have going for you.
To the players who whined about thieves being broken if there were any: First mesmers now this? You’re not going to be happy until everyone is dumbed down below you aren’t you? Go play Neopets, this is a real video game that shouldn’t have to listen to your asinine whining. Either adapt to the game and the techniques or stop playing.
My suggestion is here: Stop trying to limit your players. If something seems OP, open up a debate thread. Let the players hash it out. Don’t screw everyone by making a choice that limits so many people. Or better yet: let the PLAYER chose if they want that skill or not. If they want more evasion than damage they’ll TAKE IT.
Here are some example of thieves that don’t fit the two stupid ‘niches’ (Of either squishy but nimble, or high attack but they’re easily pinned down)
Assassins:
Pros: Power and stealth; get in, stab someone to ribbons, get out.
Cons: Pin them down and they’re a turkey on thanksgiving.
Rogues:
Pros: Power and endurance; like the energizer bunny from hell they can dish it out and take it.
Cons: Given conditions and AoE, they can’t really get away. Stack that and they’re toast.
Ninjas:
Pros: Agility and evasion; they bend like a reed and float like a leaf on the wind. They’re the annoying little troll that is on the edge of your range but keeps chipping at your health.
Cons: They can’t really do much damage, can’t take too many hits, and they’re annoying.
Thieves:
Pros: Condition damage and evasion; They can get in, poke you full of conditions and get out again.
Cons: They don’t have much power to hit hard, and if enemies have an ability to eat condition damage or shrug it off they are going to be in trouble.
Anti-hero:
Pros: Endurance, with balanced evasion and power; They can take a hit, and remain on their toes while dealing out modest damage. They can make sure the enemy stays plenty mad at them, but can’t put down their allies on their watch.
Cons: They can’t really do anything at all without a party, soloing becomes an interesting and long fight.
Murderers:
Pros: Condition damage and high strength; They can cut you so deep your grand kids will feel it.
Cons: They can’t do any lasting damage and they can’t get away. You pray that someone else finishes off your pray for you, cause otherwise they’ll be up the creek with no paddle.
See? Anyone can get around different class builds, or think up more. It’s called imagination, something some players sorely lack. They’re in a world where people bled their imagination for us, sweated and struggled for YEARS and all they see is that they can’t play the game and want it dumbed down to a point and click game where there is one superior build that everyone uses and everything is the same. That’s how games END. Please don’t take away my enjoyment of this game Anet, this is the first MMO I’ve enjoyed this much.
Sincerely,
A concerned admirer of your work
