Introduction
Hi there fellow players.
I’m relatively new to the game and a lover of rpg’s games. First time i played mmo was World of Warcraft Vanilla and i loved the diferrent mechanics (compared to other single players rpg’s) it had back in the time. Since then i’ve been playing Guild Wars 1, Mu, Eve Online and a lot of mmos that had an envolving mechanic/gameplay. I belive what defines a good mmo is the mechanics, gameplay and immersion. Actually everyone knows that what keeps you playing a game is because you are having fun within it, most of the time provided by these. And when i’m talking about mechanics, professions (lets call it classes for better understanding) are involved aside of a lot of other factors.

It is true that to create a class you don’t need only to think of one and boom, there you are, a new class. We need a whole concept: “Who are they?”, “From where they came from?”, “What does that class do?”, “How is their personality?”. Those are a lot of things to think about. But a good concept comes from simple ideas.

Anyways i will get straight to the point. Guild Wars 2 is the best mmorpg today imo, pioneer mechanics, pioneer combat style, gourgeous graphics, a good lore (thing that will be improved over the time since its a new rpg story aside of what came from Guild Wars 1).

Naval WvW

A lot of improvement is coming, so i was thinking of adding some kind of naval WvW, something like Black Lion Trade Routes on the sea that can be conquered by a server to give a boosts for the server that conquer it on normal maps of WvW and on the server. More like an event that happens once a day right after the daily reset. Duration of 3 hours tops. A guild could have a possibility of crafting 4 types of ships each one carrying a specific number of players on it. Frigates: 12 players, Cruisers: 16 players, Battleships: 22 players, Repair Ship: 8 players. Each one with a role on the ship and a rank that can be modified by the capitain of the ship while the battle is not happening. Total of 6 ranks: Admiral (can command a battleship), Capitain (can navigate the rest of the ships), Gunmaster (can command a large cannon), Gunman (can control a medium cannon), Deckhand (Control small cannons and jump on the ship when it is closed enough to invade enimies ships), Lookout (ppl watching threats) . In the case of the crew is not complete because a player had to leave etc. You could be able to contract up to 6 npc to take control of the cannons in their places. It need a lot of organization from the players but there is the thing. Be able to control a large cannon you need that specific rank. I know thats a lot to take in, but i think this could be an expansion to create this mechanics in the engine. I dont know if it is even possible but thats a crude idea and if it goes foward its going to be awesome.

Wolrd events could be npc controlling the ships and something like escort events, monsters coming from the deep ocean pushing ppl on it. This part is more easy to think.

New class

New class would be nice too. Some kind of Pirate. He would be able to use Rifles, Pistols and swords. It would be more like a thief/eng mixed. If anyone already played DotA could think on Kunkka, from there we can take a nice place to start think in something, i haven’t tought of that yet i will take more time to do it. I was excited with the naval mission idea and had to post before continue to develop the new class idea.

What do you guys think? It’s a lot to take in and a nice and healthy discussion could bring attention to anet.

Note: Its a huge change to the game and its just a suggestion, read everything and think before repplying. Lets keep it professsionally. Took me a long time to think on the WvW thing.

neat idea.

it sounds like someone is looking forward to the new assassins creed.

An all water WvW map would be amazing as well. with actual ship battles, I may never leave.

Pirate: I don’t like the profession since it can easily be replaced with thief.

Naval combat: Too much player requirement. Instead, it should take ideas from Puzzle pirates and Assassin’s creed.

There are five jobs:

  • Captain- Takes control of the entire ship. The captain steer the ship and fire cannons.
  • Bilge pumping/Riggings- Their job is to make sure the ship can move at max speed.
  • Carpentry- Their job is to repair the ship. They have to repair the ship or else the ship will die.
  • Gunnery- Their job is to load the cannons. This way, the captain can fire them upon enemy ships, fortresses, sea monsters and more. The more cannons loaded means the more damage your ship can inflict upon.
  • Boarding party/Defense- They attack other ships or defend the ship from boarding parties. They can also build siege weapons on the ship to defend against enemies.

In theory, any ship can be manned with the minimum of 1 player, but if you want to move at max speed, you need 2 players. If you want it to be defensible then you need 4-5 players. If you want it to be really powerful, you need more players.

5x Warrior, 5x Ranger, 4x Elementalist, 4x Engineer,
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

I liked the polishment you’ve done. But i would like to highlight the ships type to keep strategy possible.
*Frigates = move faster, less damage dealt since it carries small cannons. (cheaper to build)
*Cruisers = medium cannons, avarage speed, avarage damage. (mid-term price)
*Battleships = large cannons, less speed, more damage. (Hell of expensive)

A mid-term ship price could be given to some kind of battlecruiser or something.

Of course the type of cannon would have different times to reload and fire rate. (i.e large cannons have a high reload time and a low fire rate).

I think the capitain should only take the control of the ship and a front cannon. And the gunners would take control of side cannons. But aside of that i liked a lot of your suggestion, like i said the idea needs a lot of polishment yet, and would be a huge advantage to the game compared with other mmo’s already released and probably the other to come.

Indeed that looks like most with GW2.

I can see this bringing guilds even closer together, such as a guild could make their own ship and display their symbol, much like forts but movable.

Though there could be an issue when there’s just too many ships in one sea. Each side could have docks with a set amount of ships at each one, when a ship gets destroyed, a spot at the docks opens up for the next player who runs by to build a ship.

I could see some pretty cool WvW Events for the building, sailing, and destruction of said ships. That could also open up some cool World Boss/Dragon Events. Feeling lucky if you faced… let’s say a kraken or leviathan.

I think a pirate class would be awesome! You have cool swordplay skills with parries and counters and stuff, and rifle and pistol skills, maybe even like have a parrot summon thing. Plus they could have condition resistance traits (come on they already have scurvy so what else could bother them). Maybe they could even use a harpoon gun or spear on land with different skills or something. And they’d have bombs and stuff too, explosive fire breath (Black Beard put gun powder in his drink), I dunno, the options just seem endless! I’d love a pirate class!

Yea but remmember that a ship can carry multiple players depending on their type. As the oceans are pretty big in Tyria i think we wouldnt have a problem with overflow. Though the Black Lion Trade Route would be divided in parts, and instead of only one Trade Route, we would have like 3 important trade routes crossing the ocean from Lion’s Arch to Orr, Rata Sum and The Grove, since these cities have access to the oceans. Of course like WvW you would have a limit to creat ships if this limit is reached the other players would have to join a capitain.

To have an effective strategy fleets would have to be formed, now there is where we can have a problem with too many ships at the same place but i dont think that’s a readl problem since a ship would carry multiple players like i said. Events like escort a supply ship would be vital to build more ships at the docks. Docks would be conquered like forts are in WvW.

Lets imagine a bit like how the players would sign for a ship. After a fierce battle the ship took a lot of damage and it needs effective repair (another type of repair like instant repair could be done by crew members carrying supplies, it does heal the same amount as the effective repair, tho that amount of life healed goes down easier than the amount healed by the effective repair). A player sees a ship docked, go talk to its capitain and the capitain allows him to join as a Deckhand (some kind of interface like party request/join request would appear in the “crew interface” that is shown to anyone currently in that ship’s crew). Its not hard to create a theory to solve problems, the real problem is to put it in pratice.

And yea the pirate class would be cool, great ideas you have given. I would like to add a Elite spell, something like a tsunami or a ghost boat that heads to the direction pointed. The tsunami heals players and cures condition those on its way, pushback foes and deal a massive damage. The ghost boat runs towards an area and breaks itself at the end of that area, dealing aoe and leaving foes with a poison condition and crippled due to its rusted structure.

We can take a lot of nice ideas from Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

A friend gave an idea of a skill called Coral Bomb. You trhow on a foe causing poison condition and it explodes for aoe damage.

I like any ideas of more maps or a monthly map rotation, WvW can get a bit tried and tested with the same old map:(
