Not sure if anything like this has been suggested before, if it has, apologies.
This is my idea for a boss fight, not sure which dungeon it can be implemented in, maybe a new fractal, or a temp dungeon, or none because it fails, but here goes.
Enter a circular room
Boss is at far side against wall
Boss throws up a shield
Center of room is an anomaly, maybe something like this from RIFT, or a bubble?
The idea is that projectiles fired through it, distort and bend, becoming empowered to hit the boss through his shield (or maybe just damage his shield and have the boss be an entirely different styled fight, 2 stages to say).
At the moment, unsure about melee working on this, maybe it shoots slicing bolts through the ground in the appropriate direction, for now I’m just focusing on range.
So, projectiles become empowered, maybe glow, they bend/bounce/displace at a 45º – 315º angle?
Maybe randomize it each encounter, or have it swap as boss gets lower, adds a bit of thinking on your feet.
So thats the center mechanic explained,
Fight starts,
Boss does monologue “bah I need more time!”
Shield goes up,
Adds spawn, make them weak, but have them launch you, because…
The boss moved around the rooms outskirts,
maybe checking books in a bookcase, or painting ritual symbols on the ground,
I don’t know, what do bosses do to prepare anyway?
His/Her?(I keep picturing a demon) shield has knockback on contact, similar to the knockback from siege shield in WvWvW when Commander Siegerazer(sp?) sets up siege.
Have it cause damage, to punish getting launched into him from adds.
And a final note, make it timed, if the Boss finishes preparing, boom.
What do you guys think?
It could use a lot of tweaking, but i think the mechanic could be interesting.
