Dances, to my knowledge, in MMO’s have been limited to a single person. There is no interaction between other people at all. While that’s all well and good, I think that ArenaNet could really nail this out of the park if they go a few steps beyond what we already know they can do. We already have synchronized dancing, so why not evolve that concept? Lets make this solo act a duet.

Imagine server-wide dance events and masquerades (those Town Clothes have a whole new meaning!). Now, the problem with this would be the animations and pairing up between races. I guess the limiting factor in this would be that you could only group up with your respective race. Still, it’s an entertaining thought that I hope can be expanded upon.

might be a bit of a pain to figure out how some races dance together though (think charr/asura dancing)

Yeah, like I said, it’s a pitfall in the idea. I’d imagine you’d have to limit interactions to your particular race.

Or even if it wasn’t like ballroom dancing; they should just add more dances period. sell them through the gem shop. People would plenty be willing to spend gems on new dances.

They could make group dances. maybe some there are more than 2 people; so you could sort of have big group line dances/square dancing sort of thing?

I didn’t know you could synchronize dancing. Do you just type a command in like an emote?

Yep, just type in /dance *

You have to do it within a 1-2 second window within each other to make it work. Pretty nifty if you have a large group!

City of Heroes did something like this with complementary emotes… like /slap and /slapreact or /alakazam and /alakazamreact.

I actually liked that system better than emotes that forced other folks to animate a certain way because a group of folks really familiar with the emotes could chain them and recombine them with sometimes hilarious results. Although COH did have a macro/hotkey system – not sure how well it would work without quick access.

I proposed this in at least one dance thread. I love waltzing so much. I can’t do it RL any more due to bad arches, but I remember it with great fondness. Ah, having a good lead, until your feet are lightly tapping as the room spins around you …

Couples Dancing... Hm, I like the sound of that. Gunna rename the thread to that =). Sorry to hear about your arch troubles, Don, but hopefully one day ArenaNet will deliver some Waltzing awesomeness.

What about those who are same sex couples. The ball room example you gave clearly indicates a male roll and a female roll. Just wondering what your idea would be on that?

I like the idea, but it would be extremely difficult to implement. One can dream of seeing a Norn juggle her Asura partner though. sigh
