Guild Wars 2

My main is a ranger. I loved the class the first time I leveled it and I still love it now that I’ve leveled it again as a different race, but the one thing I find lacking in the class is the variety of pets that are available in the world and how little merit there is to actually collecting them all (barring, of course, the fact that non-GW 1 players like me can’t even do that).

Honestly, I just want some variety. Let me walk up to a random wind rider or a minotaur or a war beast and let me attempt to charm it. I’m not even asking that they have outrageous stats—they can have stats similar to existing pets—I’m just asking that I have some variety in my choices rather than a choice between five drakes, only two of which actually look like they’re supposed to. Additionally, while I applaud the rewards for people migrating from GW 1, I really don’t like the idea that I can’t even get some of the good pets out there. I’d love to have a reef drake or a black widow spider, but because I never played GW 1, those are forever locked away from me unless I go and grind up Hall of Monuments points from GW 1.

Now, I’m not expecting to be able to charm an oakheart or anything ridiculous like that, nor am I expecting anything OP, but I would like it if the pet system in GW 2 was a little more inspired. As of now, a ranger sees a juvenile whatever and can immediately charm it, put it in their pocket, and go on their merry way. Make me work for new pets. I doubt a juvenile polar bear would willingly follow a ranger just because they walked up to it and said hi. If I’m not being too ambitious, I’d even like some way to have pets level with you, maybe have them become a normal pet instead of a juvenile pet at some point.

I just find the pet system to be lacking. Some people suggest being able to toggle your pet on and off or perma-stow them, and I like those ideas for certain instances, but the pet is a huge part of the ranger class. Stowing it permanently is like taking away a warrior’s adrenaline or an elementalist’s attunements. I don’t want to be crippled by my pet, I want it to fight beside me as a partner and act as a key part of my class mechanics. Having multiple incarnations of the same exact pet may be easy for balance, but if I could run around Tyria alongside a war beast or even a jackalope. I love my Admiral Mo Hawkins (ice drake), and I know people have their own preferences for pets, but I want some variety!

I honestly loved the imperial phoenix from factions, and would love to have it back, in fact it was the only reason I lvled a ranger in gw1.and even with a kittentastic ability id use it for the skin only

That’s the most amazing cottonball-tailed bird thing I’ve ever seen! At this point, I’d be happy to have a single rabbit added as a pet, but one can dream, can’t they?

Any Ranger can charm a Reef Drake. Just go to SouthSun.

Hey, look at that! O.o Thanks for the tip! I’ve been drooling over those for a while (not literally of course because that would be weird).

I wanted a raptor as a pet in GW1. The ones in GW2 don’t look as threatening but I still want one.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the return of the obsidian drakes from GW1 (typically found in FoW) as pets. Also, seeing the return of the phoenix and especially the rainbow phoenix would be amazing.

One of my biggest disappointments with HoM pets, is they didn’t give us Rainbow Phoenix!

That bird was hard to unlock and i earned it and it’s just roaming all alone in HoM in gw1.
For those like me who earned 50/50 and if they unlocked this pet, they should have been given it for gw2 imo. Now that would have been a true reward for achieving 50/50. I mean the titles are nice but who looks at ur titles in gw2? the pet would be there for all to see, yes i worked my butt off in gw1 to get this and here it is.

I really hope when they unlock the far Shiverpeaks, they will give us those, or at least give as a quest to get it.

P.S. I agree we need for pets to progress from juvenile to adults. I don’t necessarily want gw1 pet lvling system but something that makes ur pet grow naturally. Perhaps if the pet fights along side you, the more hours it does the more it grows? Or something along the lines. It does seem rather silly and unrealistic that ur pet stays juvenile forever more.

The abilities of the HoM pets are duplicates of standard GW2 pets (e.g. the black widow is a copy of the jungle spider with a different skin), and the reef drake is a Southsun Cove pet.

Luckily, you didn’t need 50/50 to unlock the Rainbow Phoenix. You only needed 10 titles, or 15 Gold Zaishen Coins, or a few other ways to release it.

It would be a nice pet to have in GW2, maybe when or if we ever visit Cantha.

To progress your pet to adulthood, just click on it’s picture, then name pet, the delete juvenille from its name. This is nothing more than psychological as they are both the same size. Getting 30/50 will unlock all HoM rewards and can be knocked out solo in less than a month, but you don’t need near that much for the pets.

I refuse to play Ranger until my Asuran ranger can have a Charr as rideable pet.

Rangers haven’t gotten a new pet since SouthSun Cove, one of the key aspects of a ranger. Would like to see them be intro introduced more often, maybe in dungeons or something. not just reskin of current Pets, but New pets with new ability.

and as for Resign of Pets, do what they do with other Skins, Offer them up in the Gem Store. they do it with Armor Skins, why not Pet Skin

Dolphins! They are already in the game and swimming around, but a Ranger can’t tame them.

Would love to see anet add more pets… there are tons of animal npcs out there that have the basic models needed to be pets….

I admit that I’ve come to hate the ranger I once loved specifically because of many, many issues the required pet causes in groups, even when soloing sometimes and the nerfs to my once loved class specifically to enforce the things dominance of the class mechanics (gripes for a different post)…but pets I want to see:

Crocodiles, friend from GW1 named their’s Gucci <3
Rainbow Phoenix (agreed with above: Seriously, what happened here?)
Dolphins, though there is one hint that the Whispers train them for defense…maybe to mark mines and kill enemy divers? cough

Need more dogs, maybe a Saint Bernard or Husky-type but not a wolf (love my drakehound Courage..Scooby was way too obvious) <3

More sharks (hammerheads maybe, or something similarly distinctive)
More gnarled, ugly things dredged up from the dark ocean depths, like the armored fish (mine is named Perty) <3
Along the raptors line, I prefer the angorodons or those nasty earth elemental ones with shockwave, sliver armor, twisting jaws and unusually thick skin. (the pain…the horror…)
Then things from other, yet unmentioned campaigns from GW1, Tigers, Lions (already got bears, oh my) the non-rainbow phoenix (imperial iirc), Crabs (if someone gives you crabs deal with it…I cant go anywhere without catching “harpies” these days it seems) And a ranger golem pet could be cute… I get that it’s out of line with the whole nature thing, but still..since many Asuran golems do seem to present the functional intelligence of a “talking dog”
And many others I am sure I’m leaving out

considering for wintersday minis there was a fox… I WANT TEH FOXY FOX for mah ranger =3

could also see a dolyak being a pet and maybe even an elemental
