This is an idea I kinda took from playing 3v3 pick up basketball. The idea is, after each PvP match, the winning team sticks together for another match and the losing team is kicked off the “court” (server in this case). Then a new team of 5 steps up and tries to take away the coveted spot as king of the court from the winning team.
Why would anyone want to stay as king of the court? Well as your win streak gets longer and longer, the rewards would get better and better. 1 win is some glory, rank points, and a chest. 3 wins and the glory, rank, and chest level gets ramped up. 5 wins…10 wins…. etc. And at the end of the week, the reward could go out to the team with the longest win streak by showing it on the leaderboards and rewarding the record holders with a title, and maybe a crown head piece or something like that that they could wear in PvP and PvE for a week. And next week, the longest streak would be reset and teams would fight all over again for the longest streak!
I think it’d be so interesting to see how teams strategize and adapt to the challenges. And show it off too! Let people spectate games as they watch a team absolutely killing it as they get those 3, 5, heck maybe even 10 or 15 win streaks. People would watch and learn and strategize and think of ways to beat that unbeatable team.
There’s so many variations you could do with it as well. You could make it the standard capture the points mode it is now, or make it team deatch match, or have three teams compete to be king of the court. Imagine the dynamics of teams double teaming a particularly dominant team. The possibilities are endless.
Let players name their teams. Giving a team a name gives them identity, and makes it all the more easy to identify with your team and strive to do better and make your team a presence in PvP. The PvP community would all be astir. It gives PvP players something to work towards rather than just personal rank or leaderboards or waiting for big tournaments to come up (so excited to watch the one coming up in August). It’ll give teams a chance to practice for official tournaments as well. As of now, teams of 5 just kinda get paired up with another team of 5 that could be a group of organized friends, people soloing, or a hardcore group of competitive gamers. It’s the luck of the draw. Adding a mode like those would further separate the spread of game modes for players. Hot join for someone looking for some quick PvP action. Tournament for someone looking for ranked games solo or with a group of friends. And a more hardcore mode like king of the courts for an organized team of 5 looking to hone their skills against other 5 man teams in order to practice for tournaments or to leave their marks on the leaderboards.
