New Weapon Ideas?
Sylvari have something of a whip) Nightmare court I mean to be precisely, but unfortunately you`re able to use it only during short period of time in personal quest, would like to give it a try in normal combat, better even with class skills.
Ok, here’s the issues with adding new weapons:
1: Balance of skills across each profession that will wield the weapon
2: Balance of traits and bonuses that will effect the weapon
3: Balance of all new skills and traits with all existing skills and traits, even on unchanging professions.
4: Not leaving professions out, like A-net normally does.
With that said:
Greataxe for Rangers, Warriors, Necromancers.
Necromancer plays like a melee range executioner, inflicts heavy conditions and builds up to a sudden decapitation. Bleeding, weakness, fear, and some AoE on auto attack. A big spike skill on a longer recharge in the 5 slot.
Ranger, I’m thinking a bit more of a big slow weapon, since there’s not one already for them. Think like a hammer, only less blowout, and more bleeding. A big axe and a big pet, both tearing big bleeding holes in big monsters.
Warrior should definately get a mobile condition melee weapon. Think like a beserker with a big axe. Bleeding, weakness, cripple, a leap and a whirl.
Brass Knuckles… Definately Thief, Elementalist, Engineer.
Thief, think like GW1 assassin touch skills. A controller with low damage is something the thief could really use. Think toss, knockback, daze/stun… a little like a Gw1 quarterknocker.
Elementalist. I’m thinking Fullmetal Alchemist here. I want my attunement and my bare hands to do amazing things.
Engineer. These guys really need a melee weapon, and fully technology loaded knuckles would be pretty good to fill that slot.
Crossbow. Hand crossbows like pistols? Or real crossbows? Either way, with two kinds of bows, pistols, and rifles, I can’t really see a point in ‘em. Maybe Guardian/Engineer?
Guardians could use some range, but being so amazing defensively, I don’t know if giving them range too is a good idea.
Engineers would fit for flavor reasons, but do they really need another ranged weapon, when all they’ve got is already ranged weapons?
Whip. I like the idea, I’m thinking Guardian and Mesmer for this one. Make it two handed but animate with only one of them, a lot like a staff.
Guardian would get a bit of range, but not much. I’m thinking Castlevania for my influence on this one. Makes a guardian into a successful mid-line support/control build, with knockdown, cripple, maybe a toss or two… Top it all off with an ability to charge the whip with holy blue fire.
Mesmer could use a frontline build. Whip could accomplish that in all the ways the greatsword falls short. Distortion for defense, whirl for point blank AoE, AoE on auto attack like a greatsword, dance the whip around to confuse targets, and swap places with illusions. Low damage, but finally giving a mesmer a frontline roll and the much desired missing AoE.
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

Diving knife for underwater (main or off-hand) Would be up close quicker attacks with 1 sort of ranged attack.
Wand underwater (like scepter) but more spells involving ice, poison, and magic.
Buckler underwater for those who don’t want to dual weild diving knives and as the off-hand for wands. Shockwave skill with a defensive ricochet skill.
Would love Xbow for thief, we need a long range weapon in WvW (SB is laughable) and it would ofc need to be single target since who ever heard of shooting dozens of bolts out in rapid succession?

Great Axe for Necro? Nah… Give us a scythe. A real one. Not just some weird animation when we have a staff in our hands. It could be medium or close range. Or both, 1-3 close range 4&5 600 range. The auto attack hits everything thats standing around us. Lots of bleed on enemies. 4 or 5 could be a self-bleed skill, that gives allies regen. 1 stack of 5s bleeding per ally (AND minion) for 10s reg for each ally (AND minion). We can take care of a little bleeding. And it would make the necro a better supporter.
I’dlove to see a whip too! For the Elementalist and the Engineer. And maybe Necromancer. But I prefer a scythe over a whip. The Elementalist has something like a whip already. Dagger Main Hand Air Attunement Auto Attack. It looks like a whip.
It could be midrange. 600 or 900. But rather 600. It would make them stand closer but not too close. And the Enginier could go close range, with the ability to immobilies his target, to pull it towards him, to cripple it etc.

This is one of the aspects of the game that I’ve been anticipating the most, and I’m glad theres already rumors of a Great Axe being created. There are SO many different tools humans have developed to kill each other over the years Adding more of them to this game is a great way to add new skills to classes etc.
Guardian/Warrior: Flail. For sure. Flail and Shield? Very guardian esque Like a mace, but with a bit more range like, half or 1/3rd of the staff range. Can work for Warrior too.
Mesmer/Elementalist/Ranger: Whip. I like the whip Idea for these classes, it just seems to fit. So would a musical instrument like a harp or something
Warrior/Guardian: Halberd. Big Axe on a long Pole. Nuff said. and yes i think Guardian could work well with this., Maybe not a double-sided two-handed Great Axe. But a Halberd? For sure.
Thief/Engineer & Ranger: Claws/Brass Knuckles Respectively. Thiefs running around like the sneaky felines that they are hiding in the shadows, with their claws at the ready. and Engineers and rangers, Brass Knuckles. Yeah… I could see that working… besides, they could use a melee weapon.
Elementalist/Necro/(Mesmer?): Orb? Kind of an alternative AoE weapon to the staff, except nearly all the attacks focus on the area around the player instead of at a distance.
Necro/Mesmer: If you want to get really freaky/wierd you could give these guys a VooDoo Doll weapon. Inflict severe pain on the person your targeting, OR For mesmers, create Illusions of THE ENEMY that they have to fight. Buahahahah.
Ranger/Warrior: Crossbooooooooow.
nunchucks for melee and slingshots for ranged classes.
asurans + nunchucks = scary enemies.
Okay! From what I’ve been reading.. a lot of you people have been liking the Whip idea! I think that has won first prize!!
WHIP – Short range / Slightly longer range – Can work with possibly -ALL- classes – front line defense for many – Can due interesting tricks ( I do like the idea for it being able to switch places with a clone / illusion ).
GREAT AXE – Yep, no need to say anything else…
Now I kept on reading and yes, a crossbow wouldn’t have much of a point.. but then again, what other ranged weapons would there be? Throwing spears? Slingshots? Swinging a rock around and tossing it? But of course.. Throwing knives — Could be seen in the Cantha expansion yes?
BRASS KNUCKLES – Another lovely we all seem to enjoy! But as I think of it, a small possibility… I see them coming into the game as more of an activity over a new weapon.. Activity being – PITFIGHTING! Please add this!! PLEASE!
But I am liking the feedback and other comments, always fun of course to think of new ideas. As for my own to toss? I guess I would say looking at that Orb idea was quite interesting, a mechanic of abilities that focus around the character than at a distance? Hmmm… and let’s not forget the Urn! A Ritualist favorite from guild wars 1.
As far as weapns go the things i would want are
Crossbows – Engineer and Thief would be perfect for this weapon maybe even Guardian
Halberd- Guardian ,Necro and War would fit with this
Net ( aquatic ) for caster classes
Bolas (offhand) – Thief ,Mesmer and Ranger
Whip -Mesmer,Ele,Ranger (offhand ) ,Necro ( offhand )
Anyway thats how i see it
How about some race only weapons?
Asura – Gravity cube, typical Asuran insanity/genius
Human – Ghost weapon given as a gift from Ascalonian Ghosts, the blade was a Trojan horse sent to infiltrate and destroy the human spirit by devouring Rurik’s fiery dragon sword, Rurik’s swords spirit was too strong and the blades merged to create the fire/ice sword? Now I’m rambling.
Norn – Lance so big only that only a Norn could wield it with ability to be imbued with each of the elements
Sylvari – Spore cannon, heavy condition based and the wielder has a constant poison cloud aura
Charr – Mechanical power gloves with dual chainsaw etc. attatchments
Lightsabers!

Caster Book of spells.
Land spears/javelins.

New weapons would be cool.

-Crossbows, Javelins (throwable and melee)
-Class unique weapons/armor slots would also add nice touch:
*scythe and hmm flying imp for necormancer (imp working as armor part).
*flail and aura for paladin (aura also as a part of clothing)
*arrows/bolts/throwing daggers for any class that can use bows.
-I was also thinkg about something similar to shields. Hmm, assault shields or something like this (2h shields
with attack option?).

I would love the idea of having more variety in legendary weapons! As far as I know right now, there is only one for each type of weapon and they all have pretty much the same stat allocation. A long bow with precision would be nice :P
I would like to see Anet allow classes to use a wider variety of weaponry that’s already available.
I would also like them to modify some skins. Some of the one handed swords are just so big and gaudy it’s laughable.
I would like to see weapon levels. I don’t need new one , I just wish my weapon could have few levels and with each level weapon could be equipped with new skills (because I like one type of weapons and I’m booored playing with same skills). It doesn’t matter if next level skills do more damage , they should be just different in graphics , damage type or style (so gun leveling would be just your play style) . Also graphic weapon model changes would be cool too. To unlock (if you want) next level you could collect some exp killing with this gun.
