New class request: Bard
Except it should be called the Minstrel
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
I want another class which main focus is support, a heavy class which plays songs and is reminiscent of the EQ1 bard.
This has been my desire in most MMOs for a long time.
Please, make it so!
Anet stated that although they are not ruling anything out, a new class is the least off all things they are considering. It is more likely they introduce a new weapon(set) or a new race.
And I’m happy with that. First off all the current classes are very fairly balanced and good.
The least off all possible classes I would see is a healer/support class. The simple reason is that this game doesnt need them. The whole point of breaking the trinity is to get rid off those kind off classes. They are boring and dont contribute at all, but you are required to take some in your party to be successfull. The current system that leans a lot more on self healing is in my opinion genious and much much better.
Off course you can disagree with me. There are plenty off games that have such a class. just not GW2. GW2 is (thank god) unique and not copying other games.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Before new classes get introduced, they should balance the existing classes first in a right way and then work on new skills and traits for them to create more build diversity. New classes can wait for at least 2-3 more years for me.
Many people want strange classes, but don’t expect them to be made just because you personally want it so much ^^ I personally wouldn’t like to see something like a bard
I would play a bard/minstrel in a heartbeat!

I would give my left kitten to play one, and id even pay for it.

At the same time, don’t expect them to not be made because you don’t want them : )

Don’t get me wrong, I would generally welcome new classes, but before ArenaNet even thinks a second about that, they should first work on balancing and add new weapon skills and traits for the existing classes. That should be priority number 1. Happily they talked about new skills already. I hope that they also plan big balance updates coming along.
Taking in consideration how ArenaNet makes things and changes them again, (just look at the professions in the betas) new professions coming too early would disbalance things even more.
So I would even wait 3 years for new professions, quality always is more important than quantity!
The bard would likely have to implemented with Chants and Echos like a Paragon in GW1 . The Guardian already covers the support heavy very well though so you would really have to make the Bard a jack of all trades neither strong in offense or defense to make its role unique in its weight class .
Mana song pls.
Bards should just be simple a Mesmer Sub Class..
Mesmers already show, that they use “Sound” as a method to bring chaos, which can be supportive for allies and debuffing for enemies.
Keep on always remebering this Skills guys!!!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Siren%27s_Call.
The difference between this and actually singing songs and playing music is absolutely not big, that would look like being totally out of possibility.
The Mesmer is the perfect example as a basic class, that has basicalyl in its core gameplay already everythign integrated for 3 absolute 3 unique sub classes into which mesmers could specialize thenmself into.
1) * The Bard.
Mesmers specialized as bards concentrate themself more onto the Chaos Principle in supportive gameplay that the Mesmer is basred around in its gameplay being a buff/debuff machine in one using Focus Artefacts and as new utility Skills “Instruments” to give a new effect to allies as also enemes.
The return of the MORALE SYSTEM. A Bard, that plays cheering and motivating songs, buffs the morale of allies. Their songs can also demorale enemies at the same time, when moraled aliies kill enemies.
Next Sub Class that fits perfectly predestined to the Mesmers is being a Fencer
2) * The Fencer.
As a Fencer, the Mesmer is specalized completely into the melee combat style of the mesmer, having its completely own unque swordsplay combat style of FENCING.
Fencers also get the ability of using DUAL CASTS as basically arcane duellists with that they can combine effects of 2 mantras to cast instantly a Mantra Fusion to perform with that unique effects of synergy out from their inspiration that can benefit them especially in their fast paced melee combat, where quick activatable effects do matter.
Last perfect predestined Sub Class of a Mesmer would be the Chronomancer
3) * The Chronomancer
As a Chromancers, a Mesmer has perfectionized their illusion magic spells, that they became so good in them, that they can trick even with their illusions the timespace to create rifts between dimensions with that they can dominate the past and the future manipulating with this time at will.
Skills like temporal veil and their elite skill time warp are perfect examples for this kind of specialization.
I absolutely believe, these thoughts have a hand and feet and aren#t something just totally crazy that doesn’t fit together.I think these 3 thigns are a clear vision about what Mesmers can expand on to become better in the future, if Anet ever makes somethign like sub classes into which we can spezialize us into to create more unique different characters with different playstyle builds based on which features of a class we like the most to specializes us into them for the specific sub class, that represents our choices of specializations best.
PS: as you wish
Mana Song pls

Bard and minstrel are not the same thing.
Bard- Celtic poet warriors, berserkers, leaders, heroes and all around BA’s with a history stretching back thousands of years.
Minstrel- Sissified musicians hanging to the coat-tails of lords from the middle ages through the renaissance period.
I will never forgive the idiots that made D&D for screwing that up.
Mesmers already fit the role of ‘artists’ and ‘performers’.
Some mesmer skills have visual effects with musical notes and a trail that looks like a musical staff and all.
If any profession where to be added. I think it should be a third soldier.
Paragons used to have musical themes. But instead being as “bards” it was chants. Battle anthems, hymns and such. Still music, but more solemn that what a mesmer would do.
I could see paragons coming back, dropping their focus on boons that guardians took from them, and focusing more on leadership and and having their special skill related to chants in some way.

I don’t think it’s terrible, but I’d rather see them resurrect the Dervish. The class would need to be reworked a little in terms of lore to steer them away from the Guardians, but I think they could fit the missing heavy armor mold.
By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!
I’m pretty sure this is a reference to an April Fools joke about World of Warcraft that Blizzard made http://www.wowwiki.com/Bard

[XIII] Disciples of Catastrophe, [Flip] Black Market Lions
level 80 Thief (Vincent Nightshadow)
I’d rather see something along the lines of something like the dervish from gw1
Mesmer is not a Bard. Nor is it close to a bard.
A Mesmer is more of an illusionist. bards and Song singers,in which they grant powerful buffs to allies(usually not all that powerful),or put debuffs on enemies. All while dealing dmg and restore allies vigor(resources pretty much;hp,mana, whatever you use)
If a bard was to ever come into the game, there would be a bunch of people running around singing songs. Not instilling visions on people.
Bards arent exactly performers. And a Mesmer isnt either.

Balance is a myth. It will never happen, never has happened and never will happen in an MMORPG.

Unless theyre underwater.

So its just like shouts? Theres even a trait called “Pure of Voice”.
Except it should be called the Minstrel
Came here to say that.
it should be noted that in GW 1 mesmers WERE performers.. just look at norgu and that girl from pre searing whos name i forget… on top of many other mesmer actors/actresses.. it wouldnt be that much of a stretch for them to be bards…
even in gw 2 they use the power of music (although only underwater)..
people keep calling mesmer an illusion class.. but its not… in gw 1 it didnt use illusions at all…. they just made it an illusion class so it seems more actiony or something instead of just hexes/curses.
in GW 1.. mesmer was a debuffer and alot of people miss the old mesmer.

I would enjoy the ’’Bard’’ as a specialisation for an’’Archer’’ class, or other ranged/stealth class, just like what i found in ff14
when it comes down to it, mesmers have the skills of a “performer” whether that is illusion, music or flashy displays of magical ability.
case in point: “The Prestige” (torch skill)
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
My main concern: What does it offer that is different enough to warrant it’s existence? Dervish, Ritualists , Monks and Paragons were merged into the others because they weren’t substantial enough to exist on their own.
Playing a bard is easy. Load up GW1 and make a Me/Pa.

The whole point of breaking the trinity was to get to the point where all you can see in PVE are berserker warriors. Just look at the party search descriptions. Maybe sometimes guardians are needed for their walls, but the rest are zerk warriors…
The best part (at least for me) in GW2 was that you could play ANY class in ANY role. Yes, some were more useful than others, I guess there is no such thing as perfect balance, but nowadays its just warriors and guardians, if you want to get a party. Don’t play mesmer, unless you are doing JP or somewhere others need the portal, don’t play elementalist, cause they are not that good DPS and guardians are better in support, don’t play ranger cause they are overall useless., don’t play on condition cause zerk is way better.. etc. – Mind this is NOT my opinion, this is what I see ingame in PVE. I was even asked by guildies when shall I start a warrior… FTW.
