New daily's... no JP's, ever!
I think you absolutely didn#t understood anything of the new system …
Nobody is forcing you with the new system to make JP’s …
As the current system works, you basically are intended to do every day the exact same 4 things …
kill 60 enemies, kill 15 different species of enemies, collect 20 meterials and do 5 events …
That gets quickly boring, if you have to do one and the same things day for day for day …
With the new system, where you have to do 4 out of 6 things, the players will receive just more options of what they want to do for their daily reward.
Lets say for the next day you have the following 6 options for PvE Daily:
- Kill 25 Veterans of your current Level
- Do 10 Events
- Collect 25 Materials
- Kill 100 Enemies
- Do Jumping Puzzle X
- Kill the the Dragon Champion Jormags Claw
Then you can choose the 4 things you want to do for your actual daily and you don’t need to do the 2 things which you absolutely don’t like to do …
So if you don’t like JPs, forget about them and do something different for your reward from the list of doable things for the day…
PS: as I also understood the changes of the new system, the new daily things to do will also change every day, correct me someone please, if I maybe have understood that wrong…

Ya the Jp monthly was stupid, I for one love the puzzles but I know a lot don’t. Don’t force people to do them or waste there time discovering them. As bad as the fractals one. I have yet to complete a fractals without a doing party member.
For anyone that doesnt allready know for the monthly JP, you dont actually have to complete or even start the jump puzzle for it to count, just goto the JP start and that counts as one discovered.
This is a suggestion to the dev’s. The concept of the new daily’s sounded great and all. Until I realized you might ram even more Dungeons, Fractals, and Jumping Puzzles, down our throats. I dislike doing any of those. Jumping Puzzles I complete and utterly will not do. With a minor exception for Zraith’s.
If daily’s and monthly’s revolve around Jumping Puzzles, then I might as well quite the game now. Because a players income is already highly stacked in the favor of them. Please, if you are serious at all about balance as you claim to be, do not place Jumping Puzzles in with daily’s.
TY
I guess you just can’t make everyone happy… dude, a lot of ppl like myself love JPs, they’re such a wonderful idea, specially if you dig all the exploring thing. This game is not only about killing mobs or hunting bosses and that’s why, in order to cover a monthly goal, you are expected to cover a bit of every area the game offers. If you don’t wanna do JP well idgaf but don’t expect them to remove JPs from the monthly goals, and specially from the game LOL

Which is the worst idea in the long, sad history of MMO bad ideas.
I want to be engaged and entertained. Doing the exact same thing over and over again isn’t fun, it isn’t challenging, it certainly isn’t entertaining, and it feels like an incredible amount of laziness on the part of developers who sat and said, “Eh. They’ll do everything else and we’re either not really ready or can’t be bothered to release new content. But they’re stupid, so they’ll LOVE doing the same thing over and over again and never get bored.”
I despise the idea of dailies. There is nothing – absolutely nothing – more grindy than daily quests and/or missions. We were promised GW2 wouldn’t be a grind.
That’s really all it is once you get to dailies: Grinding and nothing but.
So please. More real content, no more dailies.
P.S. For the record, I hate jumping puzzles with the passion of a million burning suns.
So there. Infinity. Anything you say times zero.
You didn’t even have to do the jumping puzzles, only discover them. Really not a problem, even for people who don’t like jumping puzzles.
Spirit of Faith [HOPE] – RIP
For the monthly:
What happens if someone has already discovered them? Do you get credit for discovering them again or is that person locked out of doing the monthly?
How many do you have to discover? It says it is 4 tiers for the monthly and tier 1 is 10 puzzles? Do you have to find 40 of them?
You have to do 30 of them I believe, and no if you’ve already done it before the monthly you can redo them and they count, but you can’t keep repeating the same one on your character, I have not tried doing the same one a few days later, but i’m assuming it uses some kind of lockout so you can’t do it once it’s been counted towards the monthly. I’m not 100% sure though, I just know if you’ve done it sometime in the past, then you can redo it this month and it counts. I just did the 3 LA ones on all my different characters
Thank you for all your input. The main theme was not about the JP’s in this months monthly. I simply want to ensure that we have the ability to earn comparable income from other event’s when the new daily’s roll out. Event’s that take an equal amount of time and effort. The greatest wealth in this game has been gated/rewarded to Dungeons, FotM, and JP’s. It has far outweighed anything that can be earned in WvW or PvE since launch.
For example, the new daily system could have something so terribly annoying to me as:
- Do Jumping Puzzle A
- Do Jumping Puzzle B
- Do Jumping Puzzle C
- Do Jumping Puzzle D
- Do Jumping Puzzle E
- Do Jumping Puzzle F
This is possible! Thus, I wanted to nip this right in the bud :-) To express that not everyone likes or appreciates JP’s. Same with FotM. As it’s been an overall poor to even quite bad of an experience every day.
I think that the new daily system they are gonna give you the option to pick out the ugly, the part you don’t like and do the part you are gonna do anyway.
But no system will be perfect, so I imagine you will eventually have to pick one of the lesser two evils.
I don’t think they would make all picks a JP, that isn’t letting you pick what you want to do.
On a side note, the monthly JP was just discovering the entrance, which could be done with all toons in each of your character slots. So having all 5 slots I went to LA which has 3 JP’s that was 15 done without much in the way of jumping at all. just hit it and switch…which meant with a small bit of planning the whole thing was done without much effort and was completely done in about an hour.
Nah. Something like that would most likely not be possible.
The dailies will be incomparables so have choices. Not 6 times similar things.
For anyone that doesnt allready know for the monthly JP, you dont actually have to complete or even start the jump puzzle for it to count, just goto the JP start and that counts as one discovered.
Too bad the stupid WvW component of the monthlies doesn’t have a similar cheat so folks who hate PvP aren’t being subjected to it. No sign of that irritating kitten being rotated out any time soon. I guess when ArenaNet says “play how you want to play”, they should actually add to it, “so long as you like PvP because we’ll do our best to force you into, whenever we can”.
Also too bad there’s no indication that the freedom people will have in doing their dailies, once the change has been implemented, won’t be extended to monthlies. Those still look to be “WvW BS” plus three other random things. Still hoping they rethink that one.
P.S. For the record, I hate jumping puzzles with the passion of a million burning suns.
That’s how I feel about PvP, yet it’s been part of the monthlies since I started playing during headstart, despite my pleas to the contrary. I want to comiserate, but ANet’s been giving me the high hat for months. So has most of the PvP-swilling community for that matter. Hard really to be sympathetic when you don’t even need to complete the stupid JP’s to get credit. You just need to show up.

Funny I feel the same way being forced to do ‘PvE BS’ to get gear, map completion, pretty much anything. You PvE players whine and cry all the time about doing all of 4 WvW maps, but WvW players are forced to do like 40+ Pve boring as hell maps.

lol. why say a million suns, when you could just pick another star that has the mass of 1 billion of our own suns.
If you want to imagine how big this star is, think of a passenger plane flying over the surface of VY Canis Majoris at 30,000 feet and at a max speed of about 600 miles an hour. It would take 1,100 years to circle it just one time. Makes me feel alot smaller.
^ EPIC video, love “How the Universe Works”
Blacklight, sorry to hear you don’t like WvW. What’s world are you on? I WvW daily!
I do agree to what you all say, everyone dislikes some part of the game (like i dislike spvp), but you cant make daily or monthly achievment containing nothing of the game to fit everyone’s tastes.
Oh and I love the kitten out of JP’s. MOAR JP’s PLS!
Dev’s said there will be like 6 different daily’s and you (the player) only need to do 4 of them. Even if they do make JP part of that, it won’t be the only option soo…
Whats wrong with JP anyways? Don’t like free loot?
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
lol the jumping puzzle one was easy. All you had to do was walk into eb puzzle with all of your characters, each day. With those days, collect some ori, and get some free tokens from teleporting mesmers…
I like JPs, I just hate deadlines. Too many of those at work. :P
But just having to go to the entrance solved the deadline problem.

or take each of your character on a tour for each of the 3 JP’s in LA each day even, meaning with 5 characters (default slot number on an account) you could do it in 2 days, hell i even hear some say you could do it once in overflow and then again on the same day in your servers real LA, if that true(didn’t test it myself) you could do it in a day with 5 characters, without leaving LA.
So yeah the JP monthly was the easiest monthly EVER
I’m laughing and giving myself a forehead with a mighty, “Oy!” Shortly after creating this thread, someone made one on Reddit here…
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/170d65/the_mother_of_all_jumping_puzzles_is_coming/
Drat…. drat…. and double drat…!!!!!!!! :-) Ugh… this really is jumping wars 2 isn’t it? Never in my long life of gaming have I experienced anything like this. Maybe if the camera angles didn’t make me feel ill so easily, I’d have a better feeling about JP’s. Wait… no, not really either. I’ll never understand how jumping is a fun and social experience. Though I do agree, the monthly was an easier one.
Still, the original point was about the reward system and the Dev’s fascination with JP’s and Dungeon’s. For those that do not like to do those things, you’re kinda forced into a state of poverty.
For an MMORPG, I thought the RP and Fantasy aspect was going to be much higher. I actually wish for more exploration. That our actions actually build and cultivate into something greater. Expand crafting into making things that exists in the world like statues, buildings, or something. Take the Lion statue in Lion’s Arch. I would have loved to help rebuild that. They could have had an achievement board permanently at the base of the statue. Where you click on it to see a list of who and how much each player has contributed to it. That would be boat loads more fun to me than a Mega FotM JP.
I posted this in another thread.

It is the only way to make everyone happy. It is also the only way Anet won’t recieve hate. People are sick to death about being forced to do something they hate.
Just to give a heads up – I finished this monthly requirement in about 30 mins – after around 30 mins of figuring out when it triggers.
You may all say I hax but truth be told I was able to complete it after figuring out how the “start” credit occurred. My explanation here should not detract from discussion here that the monthly should not include JP discovery again (I am against forcing people to do content that might be otherwise impossible for them to do).
OK a few things to note – JP discovery occurs when you start a JP on a server shard which you havn’t started before OR when you start a JP after completing it on a server shard. For each of the JPs in LA there are definite “start” thresholds for when you cross them count as a discovery, for two of those JPs you can manually walk out of the “start” threshold.
Now the above is very important to understand, because what you will next do is a bit… interesting. Ever since Lost Shores came out we started seeing LARGE populations of players hanging out in LA, it is good and bad for reasons I will not explain here. Many servers are stuffed to capacity with the players in LA that force you to an overflow when you enter LA with your character. Now, by my estimates during a busy time (even with wintersday) there are at least 20-30 overflow shards of LA in existence. When a player first gets into LA via login / warp from a different map the OF shards put that player in a random OF based on server load. This in turn creates a situation where you can continually log in and out in order to cycle thru around 10-15 of the shards in around 20 relogs.
Combining the two sets of information : “start” a JP on OF shard G, move your character to outside of the start zone, relog arriving at OF shard D, “start” a JP on OF shard D, move your character outside of the start zone, so on and so forth.
By doing this with up to 2-3 characters on the 2 easily doable JPs in LA you can achieve 30 discoveries in no time.
(note that I use an SSD so yeah, my load times are very fast)
ALSO – doing this WILL put additional strain on the login server (to be fair it will put strain on your HDD as well), IF too many of us do it it might cause some issues for other players. (this is the reason why I didn’t reveal this sooner)
SO – don’t do this unless you are absolutely desperate to get the last handful of JP discoveries.
And yes there are more quirks about the overflow shards and login system which we can use to our advantage like this, but we shouldn’t.

That’s just it, though. This isn’t Guild Wars, this is GW2.
We’re being told: You will play the way WE want you to play. You will not pick your own skills, and you certainly won’t have access to over a thousand.
We are being told: You MUST engage in combat OUR way if you want to survive. You may NOT have the same connect with your character in GW2 that you had in Guild Wars because you don’t have the same options for customization.
You WILL need to play PvP – because WE say so. It’s OUR game and YOU will play it OUR way.
That’s how GW2 feels to me. That’s why I’m only here because friends I’ve known for over 20 years in real life migrated to GW2 from Guild Wars.
I absolutely love Guild Wars. I really, truly do.
I absolutely hate Guild Wars 2. I really, truly do. And, were it not for my friends being here, I wouldn’t be here at all.
I went from a major ANet fan to really not liking them at all.
My pleas went unanswered, too.

you only need to discover those jumping puzzles, not actually do them.
