I’ve played around all the classes a bit and found that I like the Ranger best. She gets a pet!
But the shortbow could have a bit longer range, or maybe there is an upgrade I can get my hands on or a skill to increase range? I decided to play Ranger because they fight from a distance but ehhhh. Shortbow needs longer range. Thanks bye

Its not realistic to ask for more range on a shortbow because you dont like longbows is it….

Shortbow range was 1200, toned back to 900. Reason? Probably makes more sense to have a “short” bow at short ranges and leaving the "long bow to do the sniping. Plus ranger sb skills are better at dueling tbh (evade, daze, up close can stack long poison, etc).

Could be worse, you could be a thief with 900 range max… no traits or anything to even bump you to 1000..

You mean they actually shortened the range on it? Wow that’s the exact opposite of everybody in-game I talk to wants!

Shortbows have a short range. It’s in the name sadly, so I don’t think we’ll be getting anything past 900 range from them anymore.

It wouldn’t be very logicall or realistic to give a shortbow a good range, not even in a world with Minotaur kittys and metal airships.
A Shortbow has a shorter stock, so the tendon is also shorter and can’t be drawn very far, so the arrow loses power when fired and doesn’t fly that far. But because the bow doesn’t have to be drawn far, you can ready an arrow much faster, so you have an increased fire rate. Which it does have ingame, so it’s perfectly fine.

If you want the game to be unbalanced because of personal preferrences, then maybe think of the other people in this game, those who… aren’t you.

lol you came to the game to late shortbow range is something they recently nerfd :P
get a longbow and be done with it.

In games, shortbows have shorter range. Go figure. That’s not what the “short” in shortbow stands for.

This is largely true. I think at least a couple of people in this thread have confused “shortbow” with “crossbow”.

Yeah, people keep crying about the Shortbow range nerf when it really makes more sense now than it did before. The shortbow is meant as a mid range skirmishing weapon, the Longbow is substantially better now than it was and should be the go-to distance weapon.

Also, looking at someone’s post history is hardly ‘stalking’. Thanks bye.

To clarify:

The names derive from the SIZE of the weapon.
While the longbow is…. long, the shortbow is… short.

the shape of the weapon on the other hand has some great results on how they function.

While a longbow has a much greater range because of the increased power and higher velocity of the projectile, the shortbow on the other hand has much less power.
A shortbow would never penetrate heavy armor as easily as a longbow and has not the same range a longbow has.

The shortbows disadvantage in damage and range is easily compensated by allowing great mobility like using it on a horse, while running, while jumping etc. etc.
A dodgeroll for example would be almost impossible with a longbow.

tl;dr:

Shortbow: lower damage, low range, high mobility
Longbow: high range, high damage, very low mobility
