Next new zone: submarine

they would have to greatly improve underwater weapon variety, and implement exotic aquabreather with all stat combos first before doing anything like that. There is a reaon the vast majority of the playerbase avoid underwater combat whenever possible
Who is this vast majority of the player base? I can only speak for the friends I have and my guild mates, but About 85% of the ( give or take a few % ) love the underwater. Please do not clump the vast majority in with your own dis-likes.
I am not sure on a sub level but nice way to think outside of the box, even if it did come from dark ages
I can’t speak for the vast majority, but in my server and even with a server transfer one thing is certain. People do in fact avoid underwater events. Maybe not underwater, but in pve I see those events run on till they expire all the time even in popular zones like orr and sparkfly(mainly the events near the Tequiti fight). Only place I see underwater events finished a lot is in Frostgorge but it’s usually 2-3 people at best. Some prof just plain suck in underwater combat, others are soo good you feel like your hacking. And the absense of exotic breathers is a big issue, so until they rework those 2 things (exotic breathers and skills for underwater) I don’t see a fully underwater zone being taken to seriously.
HOWEVER, it was stated in the wiki interview with the developer Collins,"
Wiki: “I know this has been asked before, but when will we finally discover the true identity of ‘Bubbles the Deep Sea Dragon.’ The nature—and even the name—of this particular figure are shrouded in mystery. Could you guys tell us even a little bit about the water dragon?”
Colin: “The nature of ’Bubbles’ is intentionally shrouded in mystery. The dragon is supposed to be weird; Tyria is a massive and diverse continent with the strange, the beautiful, and the terrifying. I can tell you that Bubbles will be encountered underwater, though it is not exactly what you expect.”
So maybe this will be that “submarine” feeling zone with maybe some war machine to go deep underwater but idk. This was over a year ago. The full interview can be found at

break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
Ninja hit the nail pretty well there. Also in fact i do kinda like (though i dont particular LOVE it) the underwater somewhat, but it is simply not enough diversity, you have as many different underwater weapons as you have weaponslots, so not really a choice there you jsut equip them, and then hope the skills on one of the might suit your build, and if they don’t well bad luck.
As for breathers, not having an exotic version simply put means you have less stats underwater than above
I have friends who love underwater play and friends who hate it.
I’m in between. I don’t avoid it in fact I’m fine with it. I have trouble with the disorientation I have underwater though. On land if you see your groups dots, you in general know where they are, underwater they could be above you or below you and its harder to keep up with where they are.
I would like for the underwater play to be expanded at some point and when it is something added to indicate if your group is above or below you. For now, I’d like them to get the on land stuff added that they are working on.

You see, this is more like it I can get on board with a reason like the one here. I just hate it when people say the vast majority, when 99.9999999% of the people don’t even talk or associate with the vast majority.
I also agree that some professions Underwater skills seem to be lacking a bit, and I have a feeling by the time Bubbles is released they will have worked out everything about that. I mean if you look at the alternatives in the “Other MMO’s” this underwater combat is a godsend in my personal opinion.
I think the main problem about underwater skills is that noone really is thinking about what to do and what to combine to be effective. If you don’t have to use it, you clearly won’t think a lot about it.
As necromancer, underwater combat is pure fun. Switch weapons, use different skills than above water, etc – all cool stuff with a lot of variety to daily gameplay.

Well didn’t thought i would avhe to repeat what had been posted quite a few times before on the forums and other places as well before

well Necromancer is one of the betters ones true, where you can in fact usually utilise both weapon set for most builds. take a mesmer on the other hand if youa re condition dmg built well then the spear useless really, only the trident any good then (maybe a bit too good but that is not the point here really). Now if you spec for power the trident get really weak, and only the spear any good which forces you into mobile melee even if you are used to above ground to be ranged. And a LOT of the classes have similar issues, mesmer is just the one i know best, as that one of my 2 mains, and the one i played most by far.
So simply put we need more underwater weapons, that specialises in different things so you can choose the ones that best fit your build (just like when you are on land)
