From the Guesting Announcement:

“Because (different from a world transfer) we are not moving your character between data centers, you may only guest on worlds in the same region as your home world. Players on North American home worlds cannot guest on European worlds or vice versa.”

Aaaaaand there goes every reason I had to actually use guesting.

My personal entire reason for really wanting guesting was so that I, as a US player already established on a NA world with friends in that world, could play with my friend in the UK, who has to play on an EU world otherwise she lags like hell. So this… kinda puts a damper on all that.

Is there a solution to this somehow? A system that both players and devs can agree on that would allow guesting in other regions?

I understand that it requires resources to move a player around, especially to an entire different region. So while I’m really disappointed, I’m not going to throw a fit.

Maybe we could purchase some kind of guest pass that would allow for guesting in a different region for an extended period of time? Or a (cheap?) temporary transfer that only lasts for a month or something. It’s almost like a subscription, I know, but it was the only idea I could think of. I’m not too keen on the transfer idea because it would lock you into one world for that period of time, which would keep you from being able to play in your original world during that time.

The only other thing I can think of is buying a second copy of the game and making a second account but, I’d really prefer to have all my characters tied to one account.

I know it’s probably not a wide-spread concern to be able to guest on regions other than your own, but still, I thought I’d throw it out there. If anyone else has any ideas, please share them. Maybe we can come up with an easy solution that could actually work.

(and please keep it civil, I know this issue isn’t actually an issue for everyone, but for those who are also in the same boat, it would be good to hear some ideas)

edit: just to elaborate, the reason I’d like to revisit this is because I’d like the ability to easily switch back and forth between regions. IE, if I’m playing with my EU friend for a while, but she has to go, it would be nice to be able to easily switch back to my NA world to help out my friends there. Transferring every 7 days just to be able to do something like that would be kinda nuts.
