OMG, this loading screens!
Problem is on your end. Loading screens are fine.
No, I don’t have an SSD, nor a supercomputer and/or
100gigabit internet.
i do have an ssd, and the load screens are still nuts. however, a friend of mine has an ssd, AND a wicked fast internet connection … no load screen issues. so it’s either your connection or, if you’re like me, your wireless — i play on a lappie via wifi.
Whilst 0% information is actually given from the OP I’m guessing the problem is on your end. Loading screens are fine, let the game load and don’t alt+tab out during loading. I don’t have a SSD and it only takes me roughly 7-10 seconds to load each zone.
No ssd and loading times go by rather quickly. Your end buddy.
The Lost Shores should have stayed lost.
I’m playing on an Alienware M15x at 1920×1080 and have tuned the 3d settings so that I have 35-45fps depending on how crowded an area is.
I’m using a wireless connection, but this only adds slightly to the latency I already have due to me playing from Australia on US servers.
The reason why I am thinking an SSD might shorten loading screens for me is that I know that the HD is the weakest component in my M15x and I can see the busy light.
Actually my loading screens don’t take much longer than those 7-10 seconds someone mentioned above and I still find them annoying. Why is there a loading screen at all when I go from one zone to another or use a waypoint?
Also, I found some interesting comments on the devs AMAA reddit thread (http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/11mz4k/i_am_a_programmer_for_guild_wars_2_amaa/) about invisible players in WvWvW. There are probably some clever ways to reduce the amount of data that needs to be sent from the server to the client and then loaded from the HD to memory.
One of them was to use “generic data” for character models and such and sort of refine the 3d scenery as time passes by. Something like this is likely already implemented as I can see when running around in LA. I can see the vendor, bank etc. icons on top of the NPCs a lot earlier than the NPC character model itself.
I hope that addressing the invisible player problem in WvWvW will also shorten loading screens.
