Im not referring to the email adress / login but rather the one that shows as “name.xxxx”, here on the forum, aswell some instances ingame. Since beta ive asked the support and i always got the answer “the tools arent quite ready for this yet” and a general feel of that it will be soon. Now many months later theres no talk about it and when i ask the support they say they just dont know anymore or elude the answer.

It would really be nice since it feels annoying to me and surely some other that i cant have my representative nickname on the forums. Is it technically difficult to implement such a feature or whats the deal? Blizzard have the same system with name.xxxx and they let you change atleast once.

Haha, I would love to be able to! The name that I have right now is from something that no longer applies to me, and I didn’t know that names have to be unique (thanks to those wonderful numbers). I wish I could be Farore.XXXX, but sadly, I can’t be.

well i hope they add this function, what bothers me also is that every time i asked support since beta they always said they intend to have this feature and that the tools are just not quite “ready” yet, the faq said the same, now i dont even know what to believe. It feels like theyve been elusive.

I imagine it’s the primary key in their user database. Good luck getting them to change that. If not, then I imagine it will come along at some point.

I recommend you read the thread next time renss, this is not about character names.
Also, to ANET; if you are worried people will use this to escape posting history or whatever, atleast give us the option for being able to do this one single time so for example people who didnt know what the role of the name would be during registration / beta phase of the game, also maybe restrict this for people who have been flagged for bad behaviour or whatever?

Never liked the idea of advertising your account name in-game or on forums for all and sundry hackers and scammers to see.

Wrong, you can’t, that is used to change a characters name, not the players name.

Who the heck would use a string as a primary key? They can definitely make changes; they do it every once in a while if someone uses an account name which violates the TOS (e.g. offensive language).
