Order Armor
Probably because PvPers will flood the world with tears.
I don’t PvP, but I thought armor for PvP and PvE was separate, so why should it really matter? You can buy a full plate armor skin from the cash shop for any character class to use. And the other armor skin was medium armor for a necromancer in the original GW, and again anyone can use that. So I personally don’t see why not so long as it doesn’t interfere with PvP. I would pay real money to do this. I’m not happy with the lack of variety with the medium armors in particular, and would love to wear light armor on my ranger.
No, you can’t apply those skins to any character of any class. The skins strictly state what kind of characters can use them, for example:
Krytan Armor Skin
A full set of medium armor skins in a classic style.. This set can only be equipped by characters that wear medium armor and has no stats of its own.
The gear on SPvP it’s different, yes, but if you remove the restrictions it will bring the same problem, and at the same time, if they were to limit the restrictions only to SPvP, it will bring another problem. One way or another, people will cry about it. Some PvPers are so bad that they use these kind of things as excuses for such poor skills.
Personally, I’ve always wanted to mix different types of clothing in other games, but there are so many bad PvPers against it that it just never becomes true.
I would not mind, but when you see a guy with a greatsword running towards you, you know he’s a warrior or guardian if the armor is heavy, or ranger if medium, or mesmer if light.
That helps you prepare and what to expect with just a glance.
Nobody should care much in PvE, but in WvW and PvP it’ll be better if appearances stayed exclusive to armor type. And since WvW and PvE share gear, PvE can’t have this because WvW can’t.
