I just bought a box copy of guild wars 2 and It was very disappointing that I have to download an update worth 6000+ files? Seriously, ArenaNet can do better than this! Added to the insult, I should have gone for digital since there was a discount, but then again, I pick up a box copy in the hopes that I don’t have to download a very large patch. It was a mistake and it pisses me off— having a no experience or had copy of guild wars 1. This is my first time to try this game. No comfort can fill my regret now and I felt cheated.

Let’s be logical here for a second, why do I need to download the whole patch (that obviously includes the end-game maps) but I have to start off first in novice camp. Do you really think I will go slashing end-game boss at level 1? Is this how the game works?

In a technical sense, the developers should have thought to divide the uploads to 3 category: Core files, starting maps/patches, and end-game maps. One good example is Blizzard’s game launcher both from (Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3). They divide it to 3: 0-40% was set-up, 41-60% was playable, then 61%-100% was optimal. Do you see where I am getting?

Now, this kind of problem— I usually shrugged it off unless it was free. But having to pay $60 for a game but already fail to give high the expectation from the start was a huge failure.

1/10. Nuff said.

while i agree, why do you think that a box had better chance of having all files rather than a dl’ed client?, a download mirror is easier and faster to update than a boxed copy for the publishers

Dude, that’s 4 months of content updates and bug fixes to make sure the game works properly. Also, you’d be downloading the game for an entire day if you went digital, maybe even longer + the content patch. Trust me when I did beta I downloaded the client digitally and it’s 25 GB in size.

It also appears you didn’t even play the damn game, before you go whining on the forums about freaking download and patch times, PLAY THE DARN GAME! It’s totally worth the wait dude, and the fact you didn’t play it is YOU wasting your own money, not Anet, YOU! If your going to buy a game that’s been out for at least a few months expect large patch updates, ESPECIALLY when you buy it after 2 holiday (3, one is currently in progress).
