Hello, as I passionate Guild Wars 2 player and enthusiast, I sincerely hope someone will listen to me on this. Lately there have been some rewards implemented that can only be received once per day, daily laurels, fractals, and world bosses for example. I read today that dungeons are planned to be in a similar fashion. I do understand the logic behind these ideas, it accomplishes 2 objectives. One is to keep players from being able to earn too much too fast, so that the casual player can keep up, and the second is to encourage people to log on regularly to receive the rewards. I do agree that these are great objectives and when accomplished will be better for the game and the players in gen]ral. However I am begging that you rethink the implementation of these objectives with daily rewards. With only the daily achievements and the world bosses, it has already begun to feel like my recreational gaming, has turned into a chore or a laundry list of things to do. This unfortunately takes the fun out of gaming for a lot of players. You have to very much consider the player base on the game. The daily/time based model has been amazingly successful for games like Farmville and some other simple Facebook and browser games. But the player base for these games is extremely different from the player base for a game like Guild Wars 2. People that play Farmville thoroughly enjoy the mindless repetitiveness of the game, and the race against the clock. Those mechanics are appealing to some and cause them to continue to log in and to play. A game like Guild Wars 2 has a very different player base. We require something more than just a reason to log in and press a button. One of the pleasures of Guild Wars 2 for me is feeling free in the game and not restrained by time or responsibilities, or things that need to be done. Please dont turn this game into a chore that needs to be completed or a race against the clock. It already is starting to feel that way with the daily rewards that have been implemented. There have been several days where I log in, and after completing my “list of things to do to not fall behind everyone else and earn rewards I want” I realize that I dont have time to do anything fun that I actually wanted to do. Being able to choose what reward I work towards in a day allows me to enjoy what I do more than having to put a little of my time in each “daily” reward category. Between the dailies, and the world bosses, and the daily fractals, all for gear or weapons, I dont get to enjoy the the parts of the game that are actually fun. A daily reward makes you feel like you have to do something, before you run out of time. Its a play on a part of the human psyche. But having to do something takes the fun out of it and turns it into mindless work. While this is acceptable to some people, I play to be challenged, I play to test my own skill and intelligence. I play to socialize, and I play to relax and have fun. If I wanted brain numbing clicking and needed an excuse of the clock to do it, I would already be playing Farmville and would have never spent money on Guild Wars 2.

First off, dungeons already do reward more tokens for your first run each day, and have done so for quite some time.

Now, I understand where you’re coming from, but I disagree that it’s something that should be toned down. In fact, I think just the opposite. With enough different things to do once per day, once there are too many to actually DO once per day, you will get your choices back. Do I run world bosses for several hours to get them all, or do some dungeons? That, I think, is the ideal way for the system to work.

True, though, the quartz is kind of a chore that’s more busywork than anything.

You do have a valid concern, but I need to agree with Weirwynn. It’s also really easy to just say “you don’t have to do the daily/world bosses/daily fractal/daily dungeon run” and leave it at that, so I’ll try to avoid doing that.

Honestly I feel that the LS content feels more “oppressive” than the daily content does, specifically the daily/world bosses. Usually as you can combine both of those, and it gets me to zones that I would never bother going to. Before the daily changed to having more than 5 things to do, I only ever ran around the zones I knew I liked and ignored the rest besides world completion. The LS usually “forces” you into 1 zone or into mini games in a tight time frame (yes usually they can be done pretty quickly) which players feel pressured to finish as fast as they can, so they don’t miss any of the rewards. If I miss a daily or a world boss or a day without fractals it doesn’t bother me, because I know I can just do them tomorrow.

I guess my main suggestion is to do what you find fun, and if that means missing a daily/daily dungeon/daily fractal/world boss you can always just do it tomorrow. In terms of “staying competitive” with others most things become useless pretty fast. Once you have your exotic gear what do you need gold for, not much, so it just quickly accumulates. Once you have your ascended rings/accessories you don’t really laurels anymore either. The three exceptions being legendaries, infused ascended items, and skins as those are big money/time/mat sinks,. Or I guess if you want to have lots of alts, but that just means it takes a little bit longer to make gold/laurels/karma “meaningless.”

I also look forward to having more options, but not so much the inclusion of more 1/day crafting mat items.

But you do “have” to do these things. As my favorite part of the game is wvw, and to stay competitive I need the gear, which forced me to do fractals and dailies to be able to buy the ascended items. Youre right I dont have to do the world bosses, and I usually dont. But for people hoping for a precursor that is on their daily list of items to accomplish before relaxing to play competitively.
