Q:

BLUF: The district system that was used in GW1 is, in my opinion, superior to the current overflow system in GW2. Would it be feasible to replace the overflow system with the district system?

Districts afforded the opportunity to choose, whereas overflow is “like a box of chocolates.”

The overflow system, as it is right now, does not allow players to effectively manage their location. During the initial release of Tequatl Rising, I recall being relocated from one overflow to another, to another, and so on, without a choice of which overflow I went to. Consequently, I’d switch until I found what I felt was a reasonably populated zone. I’ve often heard of people joining groups to be ferried into different overflows solely for the purpose of killing Taco (hats off to those orchestrating that, btw!). Maybe instanced large events could resolve their problem? I’ll probably have to start another post about that…

During Clockwork Chaos many knew to join a party to avoid being moved to an overflow if they disconnected during Scarlet’s invasions. Unfortunately those that didn’t know to party up and were disconnected got kittened out of finishing the event, and the loot that came with it. Additionally, some would zone into the region, perform one event during the invasion, go AFK, and get the same post invasion reward as those that actively participated for the entire invasion. Perhaps adjusting the criteria for the removal of non-contributors should be addressed, too? I’ll have to make a different post for that, too…

I understand if technical limitations or fundamental game design are inhibiting factors. If that’s the case, though, knowing that would be awesome so I can abandon my hope for a solution instead of clutching onto pipe dreams.

I also dislike the overflow system. It was the worst during the heyday of the dragon zergs, when I would get kicked out of my own server by guesters and be unable to participate in Jormag or Tequatl.

Now, it’s an irritation with the Mad King’s Realm. The server design is particularly a problem with the Lunatic Inquisition, because it just sends you to a random game.
