Come on how can they consider pvp is based only on skill ? I’ve been play ranger, using a toug./condition build and got those hits ( a few times..) of thiefs, Ok I know they are bursts and they get CDs after it and all but just how come they can hit 7k while rangers using longbow and all power/crit builds can get 2-2.5k max????

Backstab is a skill that doesn’t get used often, if ever. The point of it is to do lots of damage ONLY from Stealth AND by hitting in the back. You can’t whine about that whilst you get that 2-2.5k ALL THE TIME.

Backstab is a skill that doesn’t get used often, if ever. The point of it is to do lots of damage ONLY from Stealth AND by hitting in the back. You can’t whine about that whilst you get that 2-2.5k ALL THE TIME.

Clearly he can and is. I agree with you though. Kinda pointless to complain about a skill that isent able to be used all that often except by players that will mess you up 9/10 times you face them without it.

Yeah all the time, -5 minutes to kill a warrior or guardian, backstab if u find someone fighting you just arrive and finikitten with your “just sometimes” 7k dmg…. You can say they got n survival at all after using it but same goes for glass cannon rangers and many other classes and yet don’t do this dmg in 3-4 seconds.

I play a Greatsword ranger, and I do just fine against thieves. Yeah, they might down me, but then I interupt their stomp, set my pet to heal me, and let my group take the thief out in the mean time.

Or, the thief might spike another member of my party, and I then leap in, snare and stun, with RaO up and Quickening Zephyr, he’s dead in a few seconds, and I’m already on to the next victim.

Or, while defending a point, just keep constantly strafing while moving the camera, so that your back is always in a different direction, and the chances of the thief actually getting it are slim. I mean really, Backstab only kills you if the thief is *better* than you are, and that’s kind of what balance is.

you guys really think it’s fair that thieves may half your life in 1 second while are themselves able to vanish away all the time to get damage on their own? a thief who can play its class is a horrible enemy for everyone… even as guardian you’re almost instantanously dead, especially if the thief doesn’t come alone… and you can’t evade it’s 7k attack, since you recognize it when it already happened…

If you happen to get hit by a thief who was good enough to sneak up behind you in the 4 second window that is the longest his stealth can ever last, and backstab you, it’s because he’s better than you, and you should be losing. Give up.

while you are in a fight or looking into the wrong direction for a short time while he comes around a corner? come on… it’s just not fair that other classes have to deal the damage over some amount of time, which you can evade at least partially if you’re fast enough but thiefs just half your life with one hit…

Ok, Trick, maybe you haven’t seen what a fully built tank character is like, but Greatsword Ranger, specced in Skirmishing, Survival, and Nature Magic, has 24,000 health and 3000 armor. Nothing has ever, or will ever, take half of that in one hit. You’re squishy, and glass cannons can gank you. That’s not a balance issue, especially when your argument is "I wasn’t looking, or was in a fight against one guy, when another guy came in and ganked me."

This. I play every single class in the game. My lowest level being a lvl 7 engineer. After that, all fairly decent level with Necro and Thief being my lvl 80s so far. Thief is much easier to play than necro, but thief is a single target DPS spike class. Warrior can meanwhile CC an entire group, add tons of conditions to one of them while doing heavy DPS, and has massive cleave damage. Rangers can deal fast DPS to one target from… you guessed it… range.

People often forget that Guild Wars 2 is a team based game and being solo at any point in the game is useless. Thus, if you’re in a group, a thief is kitten hard to play. They’re the class that basically kills the greedy ones that chase for kills or the ones that think it’s best to always go in solo. Stick to your group and you won’t ever be complaining of thieves.

That warrior did 11k damage in 8 hits, while unable to move. Press V, and suddenly you only took 1383 damage.

But yeah, if you just stood still and let a warrior hit you with a greatsword 8 times, you deserved to be half dead.
