So I have been extensively playing World vs World for awhile now and it just doesn’t satisfy my craving for world PVP. It’s fine for what it is, but it just isn’t like having a dedicated PVP server. I don’t care what form it comes in: open PVP or faction PVP, but I hope that ArenaNet sees the benefits of having one. There are a large number of my old guildies that just won’t buy it because it doesn’t have this feature.

Yes, please, this is my biggest gripe with this game. This alone would improve the gaming experience by 500% for me. Open world PvP (a real one, not WvWvW) – spontaneous and unpredicted as it is – is a perfect feature for my taste.

This… Oh man, this…

So for all those against such thing → PvE server, everything stays as it is now, no harm done.

I’m in favor of this as an option for pretty much every game. People should have the option to opt in to a more cutthroat environment if they so choose, but there’s no reason to force it on to people who don’t want it.

That said there are numerous design problems with open PvP in this particular game in terms of how zones are laid out and how events work. As much as I enjoy open PvP, I’m not sure it would add anything of merit to guild wars 2’s PvE zones as they are now. Future content? Sure, but the zones would have to be placed and designed with PvP in mind from the jump the same way that WvW maps are.

Same for me and most of my friends coming from EVE Online and Lineage 2, both open world type games where in this game we feel very limited by invisible rules.

I don’t see any benefit from having one. Themepark PvP servers typically don’t do well, even in games where there’s some reason for them (thinking of factional based games).

The people of Tyria are supposed to be united against the Elder Dragons. A PvP server just wouldn’t work lore-wise, like it does in games like WoW or WAR.

For example, the fact that the charr and humans get along and allow each other into their cities, etc. is huge. That alone is a major plot-point that I don’t think a lot of people new to the GW lore understand. It just wouldn’t make sense, lore-wise, to have a PvP world and if Anet implemented it I’d think they were planning to flush their own story down the toilet.

Now — if they wanted to have that kind of division in GW3 where the humans and charr have a falling out and the charr go back to calling the humans “meat” then it would make total sense… it just doesn’t right now.

I completely disagree with what you’re saying. You’re typing as OP is suggesting that ALL servers should be changed into open PvP – and that’s not what is being discussed. What IS being suggested however, is that Guild Wars 2 would support the old DAOC-playerbase. There’s tons of us, that played Mordred PvP for YEARS, despite of zoning-difficulties and other imbalances – it’s just part of the hardcore PvP game.

You’re forcing everyone to play the way you think the game should be played, and that is fundamentally wrong. If there is a demand for it, I dont see why they wouldnt enable such a server. Safe in major cities, hostile everywhere else. This would, imo, bring honor to the name "GUILD wars2, since playing with your guild would be vital, if you want to survive in an open PvP server.

I’m very glad that OP made this post, because it’s about time SOMEONE makes open-world PvP/dedicated PvP server in their MMORPG. WoW didn’t do it, WAR didn’t do it, and it will be akittenshame if GW2 wont do it neither.

It hurts NO ONE, to have a dedicated, hardcore PVP server, where it’s everyone vs everyone from the get-go. Sure, it’s not in everyones taste, but then they can just go play on the regular servers.

It takes a minimum of effort to implement, and if it’s a fail, just shut it down? But I think it will succeed, and personally, I wouldn’t be playing ANY other game for the next 10 years if they copied the AMAZING PVP that I experienced on the Modred PVP server in DAOC.

It’s time for a real PvP MMORPG again, it’s been too long!
